Fixes two crashing bugs. Maybe these are the same as some of the open crashing bugs? 2.1.6 - July 12th, 2008 : = * Fixed displaying of the corresponding file when handling the Cddb track list, * Fixed configure script to check needed libraries for Speex support, * Fixed problem of displaying picture files which have an extension not in lowercase, * Fixed a crash when writing Flac tag if the file doesn't contain a vendor string (thanks to Marcus Holland-Moritz), * Fixed displaying of ChangeLog in the 'About' window, * Fixed crash with language environment variables set to nul (thanks to Juliya Valeeva), * Fixed saving Ogg and Flac files with multifields and warn if the year value will be truncated (thanks to Zohaib Hassan), * Added shortcuts to the Desktop, Documents, Download and Music directories, * Improved process to save severals files : the stop button is enabled, the user is warned if the file was changed by an external program, and the error messages are displayed in the log view instead of message boxes, * Japanese translation updated (thanks to Hironao Komatsu), * Swedish translation updated (thanks to Arild Matsson), * Polish translation updated (thanks to Michał Smoczyk), * German translation updated (thanks to Götz Waschk), * French translation updated. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/702610 Title: Please package easytag-aac 2.1.6 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 87898] Re: denyhosts package causing problems
This is not incomplete. All requested information has been provided. This is not invalid. It was a real bug in Feisty. It is obsolete. Does anyone really care about a problem in Feisty? I'm sure Feisty is no longer supported. I've already confimed: The missing /etc/hosts.deny seems to have been fixed in Gutsy and Hardy. I don't see any reason to confirm the fix on every new Ubuntu release. I think it is safe to assume the fix is permanent. Why is this bug from 2007 still open? Is anyone going to update the Fiesty package to fix the problem? Can someone please close this? [Bug 87898] Re: denyhosts package causing problems
Maybe this bug should be closed? The cause of the original bug was a missing /etc/hosts.deny file. This was a Fiesty bug. I've already confirmed that it is fixed in Hardy and Gutsy. Does anyone still care about Fiesty bugs? 1 year after the original bug report Sol Jerome came along with an unrelated issue. [Bug 346561] [NEW] [HD3200] live cd does not select valid video modes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati I Downloaded the Mythbuntu Jaunty daily build live CD from 3-20-2009. I'm using a 780G HD3200 IGP with D-Sub and HDMI outputs. My monitor is a Vizio TV with D-Sub and HDMI inputs. The radeon driver on the live CD is unable to set a resolution my TV can support unless both the D-Sub and HDMI connections are in use. With only the D-Sub cable: My TV shows a Unsupported Resolution message. With only the HDMI cable: My TV shows a blue screen. With both cables connected: Resolution gets set to 640x480. I can use my TV remote to switch between RGB and Digital Video inputs. Both are displaying the same 640x480 screen. I can use ApplicationsSettingsDisplay to select 1360x768 and the TV's RGB mode displays a very nice quality picture. The HDMI input does not support 1360x768 and shows a blue screen. I think the default resolution should be 1360x768 when only using the D-sub. When only using the HDMI I think it should default to 640x480 or 1920x540 interlaced. (Does radeon support 1920x540 interlaced?) On the other hand, this new radeon driver IS pretty nice. This is the first time I've ever seen tear free video with this 780G. [Bug 199455] Re: [fglrx] __driCreateNewScreen_20050727 () from /usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so
lincity-ng crashes very frequently. At least one of the crashes was from this issue. I have only been able to play for a few minutes without crashing. Maybe it is easier to use lincity-ng since it is easier to install. If you want to try with mythtv you maybe only need to install the mythfrontend. It will complain that there is no backend but the user interface should launch and you can just keep starting and stopping the frontend till you get a crash. My case is a little different from Mario. I usually crash when starting mythfrontend. It'll crash 2-4 times in a row and then it will start up correctly. Once I get mythfrontend started it doesn't usually crash when starting or stopping video playback. -- [fglrx] __driCreateNewScreen_20050727 () from /usr/lib/dri/fglrx_dri.so https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199455 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 218345] Re: fglrx 8.4 released today. Any chance for hardy?
Timo, I have updated and tested the files from your ppa. Nothing bad happened and I did not see any regressions. Nothing good happened either. For me the bugs are identical to 8.3 fglrx. It doesn't look like ATI changed anything at all. Strangely the driver version number in the X log has not changed. (II) ATI Proprietary Linux Driver Version Identifier:8.47.3 Shouldn't that say 8.47.4 ? I know I installed your package because the release identifier and build date are different. I also built and installed debs using the download from amd. And I got exactly the same results and version/release numbers. It seems as if ATI did not change anything in this release. Even the bug they claimed to fix with amdcccle flickering is not fixed. I'm not sure it's worth the trouble to get this into hardy. But thanks anyway for your help. -Mike -- fglrx 8.4 released today. It would be very nice to get this fixed. mythfrontend crashes several times a day for me. Sometimes it crashes 3 times in a row just trying to start. It also tends to crash when I am done watching a video. You can see one of my stack traces as a duplicate of this bug. Is anyone upstream at AMD/ATI working on this? Since fglrx is closed source there's not much we can do without their help right? I can't even figure out where to report bugs to them. I bought a nice new AMD processor and motherboard with ATI 780G chipset a few weeks ago. I believe this is an instability in fgrlx on my very new motherboard. Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H motherboard with ATI 780G HD3200 chipset onboard video. Should make a very nice mythtv box once the new open source radeon or radeonhd drivers get up to speed. OK Sebastien, I'm here to eat my words. Indeed I am an idiot. I agree that the #3 build of shares-admin on hardy is completely broken. Attempting to set up a share doesn't work at all. So my memory wasn't fooling me it really did work before. I found several other issues with Thunar and XFCE. They seem to be missing lots of functionality besides just sharing files. [Bug 208480] Re: missing shares-admin
Isn't it a bad idea to remove a major feature from the user interface after feature freeze? I bet you would be getting a lot more bugs reports but many people can't figure out what happened. Or they setup there shares before the last update and they haven't needed this tool yet. It took me quite a while to figure out What happened to that menu entry that used to let me share files? I had to use another computer that was still running gutsy to figure out what the menu item was and track down which package it used to belong to. I checked out the package description for natilus-share. It has no reverse depends. Most people won't be getting it. You haven't answered Habbit's point about nfs. Is there a GUI for doing nfs? Is it installed by default? Your attitude about xubuntu is really strange. I know Canonical does not fully support Xubuntu. But, it is not nice to break them. Have you let the xubuntu/mythbuntu folks know you are breaking them after feature freeze? Will exceptions be allowed to feature freeze so xubuntu/mythbuntu can get some GUI working for their distributions? (And Canonical does encourage Xubuntu use. The Xubuntu download link is on ubuntu.com front page.) Getting rid of shares-admin is probably the right thing to do in the long run. But the way this is being done seems wrong. You need a transition plan that gets the new tool into place by default and keeps the old tool (possibly in Universe?) working for a while. And removing features after feature freeze is bound to cause trouble. -- missing shares-admin https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/208480 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 209081] [NEW] shares-admin binary missing - setting up shared folders is broken
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools This should be a showstopper. Hardy needs a GUI for setting up shared folders on a local network. But the required binary is missing! A variety of files are missing from the hardy 2.22.0-0ubuntu4 build. These files do exist in 2.22.0-0ubuntu3. How many hours did it take for me to figure this out? Don't ask. I downloaded a new versions of the #4 deb from packages.ubuntu.com. That one was identical to what came with mythbuntu. /usr/bin/shares-admin is missing in build #4 it does exist in #3 I installed the #3 build and I am now able to set up file shares. [Bug 209081] Re: shares-admin binary missing - setting up shared folders is broken
I went and read the change log and I see this: - don't install shares-admin since nautilus-share is used in hardy But I think there are still some big problems: xubuntu depends on this package and does not use nautilus. mythbuntu recommends this package and does not use natulis. The package description still claims to support administering network shares. Is somebody planning to make shares-admin into a separate package for xubuntu/mythbuntu? Please don't leave them broken. Re: [Bug 148854] Re: vmalloc occasionally fails on x86_64
Henrik, I really think this should be fixed on Gutsy. * This is a regression from edgy. * This causes loss of data (mythtv fails to record) * The fix effects only two lines of code. * Andre Morten says whoops, yes when asked if the fix should be made. This problem breaks mythtv on amd64. Attempting to record TV from a cable box using the firewire port causes the mythbackend process to silently crash. I have patched the kernel (using the gutsy kernel sources and editing the two suggested lines) and have been running mythtv perfectly for about a month now. Before the fix mythbackend crashed about once a day and I missed many recordings. I suspect many mythtv users are unable to diagnose the source of this problem. (Which is why you aren't seeing more demand for getting this fixed.) There are no messages in the mythtv log files indicating what went wrong. The only clue is a cryptic message in the kernel log file. I did quite a few google searches and reading forums and mythtv mail list archives before I found my way to this bug. I would really, really, really like to avoid having to recompile the kernel every time a new version is released. I bet mythbuntu AMD64 users would really like to see fire wire start working right. [Bug 119412] Re: [needs-packaging] mac
Good news! GPL Monkey's Audio decoding is coming. On Sep 13th an ape decoder was added to ffmpeg. The latest release of mplayer has it as well. Source code is here: http://svn.mplayerhq.hu/ffmpeg/trunk/libavcodec/apedec.c The mplayer/ffmpeg code was derived from libdemac. There is also a command line program called demac. Source for both is here: http://svn.rockbox.org/viewvc.cgi/trunk/apps/codecs/demac/ See also : http://codecs.multimedia.cx/?p=52 There is some indication that this does not work with mac files created by older versions of Monkey's Audio. I have not tried compiling or using any of the above so I have no idea how well it works. Gutsy and Hardy are both using 3:0.cvs20070307-5ubuntu4 package of ffmpeg. Hopefully Hardy will move to something from after Sep13th? [Bug 119412] Re: [needs-packaging] mac
I got the debian source package on the rarewares site. It compiled, installed fine, and works well on amd64 kubuntu Feisty. I suggest anyone with ape files get the source from rarewares and convert their apes to flac. Ape appears to be dead on Linux for now. mac-port has severe license problems. I suggest ubuntu (and even medibuntu) should not distribute. Supermmx modified the SDK available on the monkey audio home page to create mac-port. The SDK has a funky license that does not appear to be GPL compatible. Supermmx wanted to put his version on sourceforge so he told sourceforge it was under the LGPL. But the lgpl and the funky license appear to incompatible. Sourceforge has dropped the project. No indication why but I would guess it's due to license problems. Here are some discussions about the license problem: http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=21858st=0 The funky custom license is here: http://www.monkeysaudio.com/license.html I think gentoo and debian have already decided not to distribute. It would be really nice if Matthew T. Ashland decided to release his SDK under a widely accepted license. (Such as BSD?) Matt if you read this please chose one from the top of http://www.opensource.org/licenses/category . But it's your code and if you want to invent your own funky license that we can't make sense out of then it's up to you. I don't think anybody can safely distribute this code until the SDK is released under a less funky license. And mac-port might be dead no matter what happens. [Bug 87898] denyhosts daemon does not start
Should this bug qualify as a high priority security fix since this is a security feature which is silently not working? People are constantly trying to attack my open ssh port. I didn't notice this problem till several weeks after I set up the server. Like a fool I just assumed that denyhosts would work as well as it did on edgy. Hopefully no one has brute forced my password and covered up their tracks in the last two weeks. I can verify that denyhosts was silently failing to work on a fresh install of feisty. There were no messages indicating any problem in any of the log files. The /var/lib/denyhosts directory was empty. ps -ef | grep denyhosts showed nothing running. sudo /etc/init.d/denyhosts start would look like it worked and some startup stuff appeared in /var/log/denyhosts but then the process silently died. The end of /var/log/denyhosts was: 2007-06-06 07:05:23,193 - prefs : INFOSYSLOG_REPORT: [no] 2007-06-06 07:05:23,193 - prefs : INFOWORK_DIR: [/var/lib/denyhosts] 2007-06-06 07:05:23,203 - denyhosts : INFO restricted: set([]) Investigating further I tried running from the command line.
