[Bug 603897] [NEW] package libpam-runtime 1.1.1-2ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script killed by signal (Aborted)

2010-07-10 Thread Michael Wildhack
Public bug reported:

A recent report ( in italian ?) mentions a problem with pamon
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx - Release i386 (20100429), but not that the
install was ABORTED,

and my system is the initial Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Lucid Lynx - Release amd64
(20100429).
[ I upgraded my motherboard to get more RAM (4 GB+) and more powerful CPU (2x
Intel core duo)
but I have to wonder if the applications (e.g., web browsers) are working well
with the improvements.
I have 4 GB RAM installed but only 3.5 show as available, and when I add
additional 2GB units of RAM,
the system does not boot up. {BAH!} ]

I think I have seen this, or similar, bugs but the system seems unstable with
apps such as browsers
often freezing until I restart them, or abruptly quitting as I try to open a
new link, or open message in
one of my several gmail accounts.Sometimes the browser that shuts down is
the one with the needed info
for the bug report, which of course makes it difficult to REPORT the details
of the problem which the system itself
reported being encountered.
I am sorry that this report is not more complete and helpful.

[Bug 311718] [NEW] Upgrades fail to install due to files list file for package `xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support' is missing final newline

2008-12-27 Thread Michael Wildhack
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop, upgraded from 7.10

I am reporting this as a bug with update-manager,
but that is just where the error is reported --
the problem seems to be with a file list.

When attempting to update/upgrade packages, using update-manager
( also with synaptic package manager )
the upgrade procress will fail, and always with the following message:

E: /var/cache/apt/archives/perl-modules_5.8.8-12ubuntu0.3_all.deb: files
list file for package `xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support' is missing final
newline

I currently have at least 23 upgrades waiting to be installed,
daily attempts over the past week continue to show the same error msg.

Thanks !

Re: [Bug 228083] Re: Update Manager: Could not initialize the package information

2008-09-25 Thread Michael Wildhack
NOT still a problem,
the fixes posted on forum and in the error message
resolved the temporary problem, as I posted in a follow-up.

Sorry Chris, my bad,
I meant to go back and update that one as resolved/fixed/ etc..

Now I will remember that
if _I_ don't do it ... in a timely manner ...
someone else will have to clean-up after me !

MANY Thanks for going thru and checking !!
Much appreciated !

Thanks Michael - this problem is due to a corrupt package list. Could
you confirm whether this is still a problem for you?

 Thanks

[Bug 228083] Re: Update Manager: Could not initialize the package information

2008-05-08 Thread Michael Wildhack
After reporting bugs/errors I opened Add/Remove Programs
which gave me a new error message
AND
the error message here suggested in part:
using
 sudo apt-get update

 sudo apt-get install -f

after which I was able to install one program,
and then run update-manager successfully
to install 36 updates for Hardy-Heron
