[Bug 508746] Re: rtl819xE:request firmware fail!
@Toby: I guess you are using a 64-bit kernel, aren't you. It seems in that case you must actually download a new driver from realtek. -- rtl819xE:request firmware fail! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508746 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 508746] Re: rtl819xE:request firmware fail!
I guess this is the 64bit effect! I checked the realtek support website (http://www.realtek.com.tw/search/default.aspx?keyword=8192). For the USB version, there are drivers for 32 and 64 bits for Windows, nothing mentioned for the PCI one. BTW, to reply further to #5, the difference between the SE/SU and the E/U versions is that the Sx is single chip, and realtek provides different drivers. -- rtl819xE:request firmware fail! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/508746 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 508746] Re: rtl819xE:request firmware fail!
I also have a Samsung R580. With the Lucid Kubuntu Alpha 3 Live CD, the r8192_pci kernel module is loaded but the lshw tool reports the HW as disabled. I downloaded the firmware as explained in #2, then I rmmod-ed and modprobe-d the module again. After that the WiFi was up and usable. To answer #5, I DL the source of the linux-firmware 1.32 and compared with what I DL from git, and it is completely different (names sizes). So I think this won't solve the problem. [Bug 492001] Re: Well, this is embarrassing message appears often after shutdown and hibernate
I have a new install of Karmic Kubuntu (not an upgrade) and Firefox package version is 3.5.7+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.10.1. This is a laptop with a LUKS-encrypted HDD, so I have enabled the auto-login feature of KDM. Every time I boot-up, KDE restarts firefox (if it was up when I shut down) and firefox complains that it can't resume the session. If I click on the try again button on the it's embarrassing page, firefox can resume the session. Furthermore, if I set a photo plasmoid to display a picture of the day, it also complains that it can't access Internet. So the problem is real and reproducible, but I think it is related to the LAN connection not set-up in time for the user applications. I never had this issue with the same laptop when using Jaunty. -- Well, this is embarrassing message appears often after shutdown and hibernate https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/492001 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 350491] Re: hibernation should be disallowed from the desktop when the installed kernel does not match the running kernel
@Jeremy: I'd say that your proposal follows the KISS principle, which is good. However, there are many cases where people have two or more completely separated systems on their HDD. And in those cases, you don't want to prevent users to boot into another system. [Bug 76424] Re: resume from Hibernate fails with kernel upgrade
Jérôme this bug isn't related to a given version of the kernel. However I can still answer the uname request: Linux dell630 2.6.20-16-generic #2 SMP Thu Jun 7 20:19:32 UTC 2007 i686 GNU/Linux On the other hand, the 2 remaining requests are absolutely not relevant. The problem is neither hardware related nor a bug per se. It is just that it would be really, really nice to be reminded -in one way or another- when you resume from a suspend to disk to select in GRUB the previous kernel. Up to now, the new kernel version silently ignores the swapped memory and the plain result is very similar to a hard reset. At the kernel level, it'd be nice to have a safe_resume option that, when present, would stop the kernel from loading if a resume image is present in swap partition and versions don't match. -- resume from Hibernate fails with kernel upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/76424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 99755] Re: regression: Keyboard + Synaptic Touchpad randomly do not return from suspend on Dell 640m
Same problem with a Dell 630m. I have the feeling it is related to the use of an external USB Logitech mouse (I have another no-name mouse which doesn't seem to trigger the same bug). If the plug state of the mouse is different between before sleep and after resume, the (internal) keyboard and touchpad are not seen. What is even more strange is that all pressed keys are still kept in a queue; as soon as I managed to log-in again on the screen-saver, the keys are applied (i.e. Fn+sleep, power button, shortcuts, ...). I also noticed that after the problem occurred, the special shortcut Fn+F3 (Battery status) no longer works and there is the following message in kern.log: atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e007 keycode' to make it known. atkbd.c: Unknown key pressed (translated set 2, code 0x89 on isa0060/serio0). If I close the cover of the laptop, wait until it goes into sleep mode and then open it again, keyboard is back. ** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.20 (Ubuntu) Status: Unconfirmed = Confirmed -- regression: Keyboard + Synaptic Touchpad randomly do not return from suspend on Dell 640m https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/99755 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 76424] Re: resume from Hibernate fails with kernel upgrade
I've also been annoyed by this for quite a while... Here are some of the solutions I thought of: - Insist on rebooting after a kernel upgrade. This is indeed the only time where rebooting is really needed (in comparison to another well-known OS where it is a common habit...). If the user declined, offers to remind her periodically (maybe a Gnome/KDE applet would be a good way to do it - as when there are updates available). - Before doing a Hibernate, check whether a kernel upgrade occurred. In that case, options are: - Remind the user that on next boot, she should choose the XXX line in GRUB. - Offer the user to do a shut-down instead, - If GRUB is configured to boot with default saved, change the default to the currently used kernel. - Change GRUB to have no time-out... Note that if Hibernate is mostly used on laptops, it can also be used with desktops. So having different behaviours based on laptop/desktop detection doesn't sound good to me. -- resume from Hibernate fails with kernel upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/76424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 76424] Re: resume from Hibernate fails with kernel upgrade
Another idea: I don't know how this is done, but when the kernel boots it can detect if hibernate was used instead of plain shutdown. So maybe it could also detect if the swap contains a hibernate image from another kernel version. In that case, it should present the user with the following options: - continue booting and lose the previous hibernate (with a big, fat warning), - continue booting and don't use that swap partition, - stop booting (and return to grub through a reboot). -- resume from Hibernate fails with kernel upgrade https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/76424 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 47980] Re: systemsettings crashes
I can't reproduce it with Feisty for the simple reason that it is no longer available! For me, the bug occurred in Dapper when I tried to accessed the Command shortcut tab (see attached screenshot of Dapper/kcontrol). AFAIK, this tab is no longer with Feisty since -I guess- this is meant to be configured through the K Menu editor. Since there is a workaround with the LTS dapper (use kcontrol instead of systemsettings), and since it is no longer available in Feisty, I'd vote for closing that bug report. -- systemsettings crashes https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/47980 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Team, which is a direct subscriber. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs

I am no Python expert, but it seems to me that the '-u $URL' part is ignored. Indeed, everything is hardcoded in the python script. As I wrote in bug #51149, I modified the popcon script to correct a bug.
