[Bug 387970] Re: cups asks for root password

2012-10-29 Thread MichielBeijen
as mentioned in #22; I had this issue when I messed up accounts and
groups. It prompts (with an ugly prompt) for authentication if you're
not in the lpadmin group. When I set 'sudo usermod -aG lpadmin
myusername' it worked flawlessly afterwards.

The bug is that it does not detect more gracefully if you are not a
member of the lpadmin group.

** Summary changed:

- cups asks for root password

I find this VERY annoying and confusing; especially when you search for
software that COULD have been in the Software Centre such as Chrome or

[Bug 727816] [NEW] SOAP RPC interface does not work under mod_perl2

2011-03-02 Thread MichielBeijen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libsoap-lite-perl

The version of SOAP::Lite bundled in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (and 10.10)
contains an issue that makes the HTTP transport fail if run under
mod_perl. This will make for instance the XML/RPC interfaces of
applications like Bugzilla and OTRS fail, if installed on these Ubuntu
versions.

The good news is, there's a patch available to fix this. Please
incorporate in the Ubuntu package.

[Bug 592643] [NEW] Thunderbird menu shortcut naming and placement issues.

2010-06-11 Thread MichielBeijen
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: thunderbird

I've installed the Thunderbird package on Lucid, and found a shortcut
for it under Internet Mozilla Thunderbird Mail/News, which I found a
bit confusing. According to the Mozilla website, the product name is
simply Thunderbird, and not Mozilla Thunderbird. (ref:
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/)

Also, the Firefox browser, which is a Mozilla product, is just listed as
Firefox Web Browser and not as Mozilla Firefox Web Browser. This
makes it inconsistent.

The Evolution mail client is called Evolution Mail and Calendar
(please note the and instead of the /) and is listed under Office,
instead of Internet, which is where you'll find Thunderbird.

My proposal would be to alter the shortcut name for Thunderbird to
Thunderbird Mail and News, and to move it under Office.

I'd rather have it removed from the repositories.

[Bug 288386] Re: Flash causing static when I mute

2008-11-04 Thread MichielBeijen
I have similar experiences on the defenite version of Intrepid. I use
ALSA with my Dell Vostro 1500 which has an Intel sound card. In my
experience this is not limited to flash, I have these issues with
Rhythmbox as well, I guess it is related to ALSA.

Whenever I use the soft key of my laptop to mute, when I use the Volume
Down soft key until sound is off I will hear static.

When I use the volume control icon in Ubuntu I can click Mute without
any problems, but when I open Sound Control and use the PCM fader and
fade it to 0% or mute the PCM channel I will also hear static.

I found out when there is no sound playing, I can mute without hearing
static. If I then start in a sound, for instance a song in Rhythmbox, I
will hear static.
