[Bug 1777708] Re: Desktop briefly becomes unresponsive when typing on 2 keyboards at the same time
> It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it Sure! But I have no qualified guess. I did some additional testing today, which may be helpful to others, but confused me a bit more: I installed Plasma, and here the problem doesn't seem to be there. It feels like there's a slight delay when typing a lot of things at the same time, but it might just be Plasma's way of working. I haven't used it before, so I can't really say whether the slight delay is just how things work or is related to this issue. But I also found out that I'm able to start a Wayland based Gnome session. Doing that, there's absolutely no problem with they keyboard. All multi-keyboard typing is shown instantly and no UI freeezing. Based on this, I'm a bit confused about what package to file this bug against, as Plasma (as far as I know) runs on top of X, and Gnome works fine without X. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108 Title: Desktop briefly becomes unresponsive when typing on 2 keyboards at the same time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/108/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1777708] [NEW] Desktop briefly becomes unresponsive when typing on 2 keyboards at the same time
Public bug reported: I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 and Gnome 3.28.1 with all the latest updates from the repos. If I connect 2 (or more) keyboards to my computer and type on both at the same time, the desktop briefly becomes unresponsive. More keypresses increase the time of unresponsiveness. E.g. when typing a full sentence in gedit or the terminal, only very few characters show up on the screen (I guess up until something is pressed on both keyboards at the same time), then everything freezes. Then after a while (some seconds), all the characters show up. And the desktop becomes responsive again. Symptoms: During the freeze, windows stop updating their content. If seconds are enabled on the clock at the top middle, these freeze too. But I'm still able to move the mouse pointer around during the freeze without any problems. The back story: I got an ergonomic keyboard (R-Go Split Keyboard) yesterday, and quickly noticed the issue. But initiallly I thought it was an issue with the keyboard, and the problem wasn't that bad. But as I've gotten more used to the keyboard since yesterday and started picking up a proper typing speed, things got worse. The keyboard is technically two separate cabled USB keyboards each with only about half of they keys of a normal keyboard (or at least that's very much my impression). After getting the suspicion that this was a software issue, not a hardware issue, I tried typing on my old Logitech keyboard (Unifying Receiver) along with one of the R-Go halves: Same issue. Then I tried each of the halves without the other (as in "single" keyboard typing): No issue. Then I connected another Logitech keyboard (separate UR), typed on both Logitechs: Same issue. Some further observations: 1) Nothing of significance in my syslog. 2) If I drop to a non-graphical shell, there's no problem. I suspect this issue is related to X.org or Gnome, but I'm in no position to say anything credible about that. 3) Also no problems when connecting the R-Go keyboard to a Windows or a MacOS machine. Let me know if there are any logs I can provide or things I can run to produce useful debug output. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/108 Title: Desktop briefly becomes unresponsive when typing on 2 keyboards at the same time To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/108/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1575658] [NEW] Unable to boot from encrypted partition after fresh install of 16.04
Public bug reported: Let me start by excusing myself, if some of the technical terms used are wrong. Although I do see myself as quite tech savvy, this is pretty far away from my usual territory. I've been running with a partition layout like this for a while: * An extended partition with 3 logical partitions in it: * A small, unencrypted partition for /boot * Another, encrypted partition for / * And the last partition, encrypted for /home I initially based this layout more or less on the way the Ubuntu installer does it if I just let it do it for me, except that I have /home on a separate partition. With the release of Xenial Xerus, I decided to do a clean installation. I also decided to wipe the existing partitions and recreate the same setup, but with different partition sizes. And so I did, by choosing the "Something else" option on the "Installation type" step in the installer. Installation went fine and all. But upon boot, the splash screen stayed there for a long time. Where I would expect the passphrase prompt for the disk encryption key to appear, nothing happened. After some time, I was dropped to busybox with an `(initramfs)` prompt. Since then, I've spend a whole day trying to find a fix. And I think I succeeded. But it seems like the installer is missing something. So let me try to explain what I did to make this work, hoping that it gives someone capable of fixing the installer a clue about what's wrong with it. Several people on the internet suggested that I ran `cryptsetup` from `initramfs` prompt. But that command wasn't available. After doing more research on the interwebz, I managed to fix this by doing 3 things after mounting and chrooting the encrypted root partition from the Live USB: 1) I read somewhere that `cryptsetup` would only be part of `initramfs` if `crypttab` was present. I followed a suggestion to manually edit the file `/etc/crypttab`, which was missing(!), and entered the proper settings for my 2 encrypted partitions. This of course had to match with what the decrypted partitions were called in `/etc/fstab`. 2) Then I followed another suggestion to add the following modules to `/etc/initramfs-tools/modules`: aes-x86_64 sha512-ssse3 xts dm-mod dm-crypt I have no idea whether this had any actual influence on the success, but -- from the names of the modules -- it sounds plausible that I needed at least some of those. 3) Finally, I ran `update-initramfs` with some arguments along the lines of `-uck all` (which seemed to form some quite appropriate words after hours of searching for answers without any luck at all). After a reboot, I was finally prompted to enter the disk passphrase and eventually got to the login greeter. Phew! Along the way, I also did several other things, but I tried to remember to always revert those changes if they did not work. Other things _might_ have been changed manually, though, for this to work, but I believe that it was the things mentioned above that did the trick. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575658 Title: Unable to boot from encrypted partition after fresh install of 16.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1575658/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have the same problem if I accidentally press the power button in my pocket (e.g. when trying to turn the volume up/down). [Bug 1241193] Re: Trying to install 13.10 form live USB. Got past all setup, the installation just started.
I managed to install afterwards and may have an idea why it crashed. I decided to encrypt my disk this time as part of the fresh install. I prefer to have a separate partition for my /home. But, as this was my first journey into the world of encryption, I was pretty much fumbling around in the dark. I manually created 2 encrypted partitions (one for / and one for /home) via the Disks tool and used these for install (as I usually do with unencrypted partitions). And then it failed as reported. Twice. Then I gave up, used the built in encryption in the installer (i.e. letting the installer decide what partitions I need). Doing this, everything worked just fine. After install, looking at the partition layout that the installer created, I see a small, unencrypted partition for /boot. This is probably what caused this crash: Nowhere outside encryption to put /boot. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1241193 Title: Trying to install 13.10 form live USB. [Bug 592042] Re: [Maverick only] Pressing printscreen hangs keyboard
I'm experiencing this too. I did some testing and it seems it only happens when a window is active. If I have no windows, only the desktop shown, this does not happen. But when I open a window and press Print Screen, keyboard stops working. Then the top/bottom panels flicker (sometimes disappears) and window decorations disappear. [Bug 432670] Re: regression in karmic thermal control
I've pushed Ubuntu to a friend, but after upgrading her laptop to Karmic she has been experiencing this too. The fan is working at full speed and the CPU is getting very hot. The result is that, after a while, when the CPU temperature reaches somewhere above 90 degrees celcius, the system freezes (I can't help thinking that's a bad word for something actually related to overheating). Then, after a forced shutdown (holding down the power button), it needs to cool down for a while before we're able to turn it on again. As a temporary workaround I've told her to blow into the heatsink hole for a while, to lower the temperature when it's getting close to the critical point. Rolf, thanks for taking your time. a) How do I download a Lucid kernel for Karmic? Or do you mean I should try installing an entire Lucid on her laptop? I'm already using Lucid on my own laptop, but don't want to bother her with the possible problems of alpha releases (although it may be better than overheating). b) I'll try that next time I get close to her computer. c, d) I already tried both, but that doesn't seem to make any difference (I settled on ondemand). It's a 2GHz CPU, but the heating didn't seem to stop even when idling at 500MHz. I also checked top but no programs seemed to be consuming huge amounts of CPU. Firefox was at the top with about 7-8%, as far as I remember. I'll check up on that. But then again: The temperature was at 90+ and the fan running wild even when the CPU scaled down to 500MHz. I added the ppa using sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa - am I doing something wrong? -- Sound simultaneously on headphones and speakers - Lenovo IdeaPad u350 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/477226 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 477226] Re: Sound simultaneously on headphones and speakers - Lenovo IdeaPad u350
I'm a u350 owner too, and I can confirm this bug on Karmic (speakers and line out playing at the same time) and Lucid (line in/out not working). Post #3 in this forum thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8824770 is about this and claims to have a solution. I don't know whether it works and I don't have the time to try this out myself at the moment, but maybe somebody else have? -- Sound simultaneously on headphones and speakers - Lenovo IdeaPad u350 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/477226 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 500745] [NEW] Missing dependency: Numeric
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: python-opencv I was trying to run the example code from here: http://www.jperla.com/blog/2007/09/26/capturing-frames-from-a-webcam- on-linux/ I installed python-opencv, but the module opencv.adaptors wouldn't work, as it tries to import Numeric (which is in python-numeric). /usr/lib/pymodules/python2.6/opencv/adaptors.py line 66 I don't know what the policy is for package dependencies, but maybe python-opencv should have a dependency on python-numeric? I'm running Ubuntu 9.10. apt-cache policy python-opencv says: python-opencv: Installed: 1.0.0-6.2ubuntu1 Candidate: 1.0.0-6.2ubuntu1 Version table: *** 1.0.0-6.2ubuntu1 0 500 http://dk.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/universe Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: opencv (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: opencv python -- Missing dependency: Numeric https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/500745 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
