Experienced this after fresh install of 17.10 with Virtualbox .30. Guest
additions + Ubuntu sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade removed the
problem.

This happened today once more, now only 2 mins after logging in and
using Firefox. Strange thing this time was that Xorg.0.log.old did not
contain any backtrace. Just upgraded new packages this morning.

X has crashed randomly with rough frequency of once per day since
updating to Lucid. With Karmic it worked fine. Last time upgraded to
latest Lucid on Friday.
I have noticed the crash at least when using Evolution and Firefox.
