[Bug 995715] Re: X defaulting keyboard locale to US at login after upgrading distribution if a Logitech Unifying Receiver is plugged in
Once upon a time, Launchpad was really open. You could set importance, affected releases and assing bugs to people, teams or even yourself. I'm not wondering why I opened this bug more than 2 years ago and no one has taken care of it yet. Probably no one ever will. Luckily this bug is not a blocker and there are many workarounds. I guess we just have to change our password (as I did) or use Cédric's workaround in comment #23. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995715 Title: X defaulting keyboard locale to US at login after upgrading distribution if a Logitech Unifying Receiver is plugged in To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/995715/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1278224] [NEW] X.Org causes RANDOM REBOOTS on x64 linux kernel
Public bug reported: I already asked a question on AskUbuntu but I'm reporting it as a bug as suggested by moderators. I get lots of hard reboots when the xserver is supposed to do something (that's why I call it random), especially when scrolling a pdf (2-4 scrolls will suffice). For example, as I'm submitting this bug, my system rebooted twice: the first time as I clicked on Yes, log me in, the second one as I highlighted some words with the cursor. I also get reboots while pressing F2 to rename a file (just before the box with highlighted text appears), and also while opening/closing a tab on any browser (right before doing it). It could really reboot on ANYTHING. Here are some clues: 1. If I log into the system and don't do anything, the system is stable and running until I start using it. 2. I'm running a mainstream kernel, but it doesn't matter. A saucy live cd and even a natty live cd show the same bug. 3. It doesn't matter which desktop environment is running. Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu are all showing the same problem. 4. It doesn't matter which graphic driver is running: nouveau, nvidia and mesa are all affected. 5. System logs don't show anything, they stop before the crash and restart at boot. 6. A linux i386 (32 bits) kernel DOES NOT SHOW THIS PROBLEM. My motherboard is an Asus A8R-MVP upgraded to the latest BIOS available and my GPU is a NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT. I already tested my RAM for 3 hours, tested GPU temperature, bought a new PSU and SATA cables, ran SMART tests, but my hardware seems absolutely fine. Also, these are the parameters I've set in /etc/default/grub: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash nohz=off ipv6.disable=1 enable_mtrr_cleanup mtrr_spare_reg_nr=1 pata_ali.atapi_dma=1 iommu=force I'll try to attach anything that could be useful, but so far my system thinks everything is fine... Please, feel free to ask any additional info. [Bug 1070531] Re: fglrx drivers broken after upgrading to quantal with dual Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series cards
Sure, Christopher. It's HP G62-a014SL ** Description changed: - I'm using a HP Pavilion G62 that switches between two ATI cards: a HD 4200 and a HD 5400. After upgrading from Precise to Quantal, the resolution is very low, no compositing is available, Unity fails to load, no window decorations are present and I just get the cursor, a wallpaper and desktop icons. + I'm using a HP Pavilion G62-a014SL that switches between two ATI cards: a HD 4200 and a HD 5400. After upgrading from Precise to Quantal, the resolution is very low, no compositing is available, Unity fails to load, no window decorations are present and I just get the cursor, a wallpaper and desktop icons. I thought that since the Radeon HD 4xxx branch is now under the new driver support model, I had to install fglrx-legacy drivers from ppa:makson96/fglrx (even if my secondary card is in the original driver support model) which also downgrades the X server, but it didn't work: I just got a black screen and Xorg segmentation faults, no matter which xorg.conf is used (I tried with Quantal's default and 'amdconfig --initial -f'). I'm using the open source ati drivers now, which suffer from overheating. I can't get more that 30 minutes of uptime. I also have the feeling that my system can't switch between the two VGA cards (as in bug #1021024 ). That could explain the overheating that I'm experiencing since forever (though with the open source ati drivers it's gotten even worse, as I said before) or why fglrx is failing to detect my cards / load properly. As you can see, switcheroo is enabled: grep -i switcheroo /boot/config-3.5.0-18-generic CONFIG_VGA_SWITCHEROO=y but I haven't got any /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo . [Bug 1241897] Re: Losing wired connection after upgrading to 13.10 [eth0: hw checksum failure]
I tried booting Ubuntu 13.10 from a live session and I'm experiencing the same problem, so it's not happening just on Kubuntu. Is there any regression in the kernel? A live 13.04 doesn't show this problem P.S.: I had a look at the logs, but today there are no such hw csum failures and none of those lines about skge. ** Summary changed: - Losing wired connection after upgrading to 13.10 [eth0: hw checksum failure] + Losing wired connection after upgrading to 13.10 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1241897 Title: Losing wired connection after upgrading to 13.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1241897/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1186331] [NEW] [PATCH] e2fsck hangs up boot process because Device or resource busy while checking ext3 journal for foobar
Public bug reported: I installed Kubuntu 13.04 x64 on a new SSD, but pointed its ext4 journal to another partition on a spinning disk (same block size, of course). At every boot, e2fsck prompts me to check / for errors but it dies because: fsck.ext4: Device or resource busy while checking ext3 journal for foobar foobar: ** WARNING: Filesystem still has errors ** [Please, also note: If I press I to ignore and continue the boot process, it complains about /tmp not being ready yet (I used bind in fstab because it's on another partition). So I press S to skip the mount and access lightdm which can't login yet because /tmp is unmounted (it would just restart itself). Accessing the tty with CTRL+ALT+F1 works and I can sudo mountall to correctly mount /tmp, then login and use the system as usual.] Using a LiveCD to fsck the / partition shows that the filesystem is clean. I built e2fsck from source and applied this patch http://www.spinics.net/lists/linux-ext4/msg38096.html before compiling and it solved the problem. Now the boot-up process is smooth and it also carried away the /tmp not ready issue. Please, apply this patch to e2fsprogs. [Bug 1091792] Re: The disk drive for /tmp is not ready yet or not present
I'm still experiencing this on 13.04 x64 with up-to-date mountall. The only difference is that /tmp is bound to another partition as specified in fstab. If I press S to skip mounting it and continue booting and then CTRL+ALT+F1 to access the tty and do a 'sudo mountall', the tmp partition gets mounted correctly and the system is perfectly usable. Funny is that once in a while it just works. My system is on the SSD, while tmp and var on HDD, so I thought this could be a matter of my / on ssd loading too early than /tmp (my 2 cents). nobootwait as fstab option didn't do the trick. [Bug 1068661] Re: Unity does not load after installing fglrx/fglrx-updates in ATI/Radeon + Intel GPU hybrid systems
I'm glad you found out that this problem was affecting hybrid Intel/ATI systems, I really hope it will be solved soon. Now, imagine: a hybrid ATI/ATI system, the primary one which is legacy (HD 4200) and the secondary is newer (HD 5600). No need to say that the Intel workarounds you're all so happy with has no effect in my case. Also, the fglrx-updates workaround was the first one I tried but there was no difference. Now I have both my GPUs running at full speed like a tazmanian devil thanks to the awesome ati open drivers and switcheroo that totally disappeared (was it even there before?). Once upon a time, I filed bug #1070531 , but after years as a Launchpad user, I know that I'll be left all by myself. But I can't blame anyone: can you imagine a laptop which switches between two ati cards where the first one needs legacy drivers and an older version of X? Of course I tried turning the 4200 off in the BIOS, but it seems that the only things I'm allowed to change are language and time. [Bug 1070531] Re: fglrx drivers broken after upgrading to quantal
** Description changed: - Provide details about the issue. + I'm using a HP Pavilion G62 that switches between two ATI cards: a HD 4200 and a HD 5400. After upgrading from Precise to Quantal, the resolution is very low, no compositing is available, Unity fails to load, no window decorations are present and I just get the cursor, a wallpaper and desktop icons (same as bug #1068661 ). + Many people are experiencing (almost) the same issues with HD 6xxx and HD 7xxx branches too. + + + My bug report could end here, however, I'm adding more information just + for completeness: + + I thought that since the Radeon HD 4xxx branch is now legacy + (unsupported) I had to install fglrx-legacy drivers from + ppa:makson96/fglrx (even if my secondary card is supported) which also + downgrades the X server, but it didn't work: I just got a black screen + and Xorg segmentation faults, no matter which xorg.conf is used (I tried + with Quantal's default and 'amdconfig --initial -f'). + + I'm using the open source ati drivers now, which suffer from + overheating. I can't get more that 30 minutes of uptime. + + I also have the feeling that my system can't switch between the two VGA + cards (as in bug #1021024 ). That could explain the overheating that I'm + experiencing since forever (though with the open source ati drivers it's + gotten even worse, as I said before) or why fglrx is failing to detect + my cards / load properly. As you can see, switcheroo is enabled: + + $ grep -i switcheroo /boot/config-3.5.0-18-generic + CONFIG_VGA_SWITCHEROO=y + + but I haven't got any /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo . + + Please, just tell me if you need more information. + + + $ lspci |grep VGA + 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS880M [Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series] + 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Manhattan [Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series] + + + $ sudo lshw -C display + *-display +description: VGA compatible controller +product: RS880M [Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series] +vendor: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI +physical id: 5 +bus info: pci@:01:05.0 +version: 00 +width: 32 bits +clock: 33MHz +capabilities: pm msi vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom +configuration: driver=radeon latency=0 +resources: irq:18 memory:d000-dfff ioport:8000(size=256) memory:f230-f230 memory:f220-f22f + *-display +description: VGA compatible controller +product: Manhattan [Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series] +vendor: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI +physical id: 0 +bus info: pci@:02:00.0 +version: 00 +width: 64 bits +clock: 33MHz +capabilities: pm pciexpress msi vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom +configuration: driver=radeon latency=0 +resources: irq:45 memory:e000-efff memory:f210-f211 ioport:7000(size=256) memory:f212-f213 + + + $ lsb_release -a + No LSB modules are available. + Distributor ID: Ubuntu + Description: Ubuntu 12.10 + Release: 12.10 + Codename: quantal + + + $ uname -a + Linux ace 3.5.0-18-generic #29-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 19 10:26:51 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux + + ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: fglrx 2:9.000-0ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.5.0-18.29-generic 3.5.7 Uname: Linux 3.5.0-18-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: fglrx wl ApportVersion: 2.6.1-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, decor, place, imgpng, compiztoolbox, snap, vpswitch, resize, regex, gnomecompat, move, mousepoll, grid, wall, session, unitymtgrabhandles, animation, expo, workarounds, fade, ezoom, scale, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz CurrentDmesg: [ 23.428471] r8169 :03:00.0: eth0: link down Date: Tue Oct 23 22:08:10 2012 DistUpgraded: 2012-10-19 19:21:19,811 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: quantal DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bcmwl, 5.100.82.112+bdcom, 3.5.0-17-generic, x86_64: installed bcmwl, 5.100.82.112+bdcom, 3.5.0-18-generic, x86_64: installed fglrx, 9.000, 3.5.0-18-generic, x86_64: installed GraphicsCard: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS880M [Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series] [1002:9712] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:143c] Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI Manhattan [Mobility Radeon HD 5400 Series] [1002:68e0] (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company Device [103c:143c] InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat - Release amd64 (20101007) JockeyStatus: kmod:wl - Broadcom STA wireless driver (Proprietary, Enabled, In use) [auto-install] kmod:fglrx - ATI Fire GL (Proprietary, Enabled, In use) kmod:fglrx_updates - Video driver for

[Bug 1070531] Re: fglrx drivers broken after upgrading to quantal
THREE bugs at once?! My usual luck! :) Let me answer you step by step: 1) I understand. I marked myself as affected and subscribed to that bug. I hope it gets solved soon, since the fglrx-legacy workaround didn't work for me; 2) Ok, so let's keep this as a bug in fglrx-* using HD 5400. Unfortunately, the bios shipped with my notebook really sucks. There's no other word I could use to describe it. I can't change ANYTHING from the BIOS, that's why I meant to play around with switcheroo, but to no avail. 3) Thanks for the tips! The possibility to switch governor totally slipped out of my mind. Though, I can only think of it as a temporary workaround. The main reason why I think it overheats it's because it's keeping both VGAs active. Should I file a new bug report to address my issues while using two cards simultaneously? Thank you so much for your patience, Christopher. :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1070531 Title: fglrx drivers broken after upgrading to quantal To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1070531/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1068661] Re: 1002:6740 Unity does not load after installing fglrx-installer Radeon HD 6700M Series
The very same problem is happening on a HP Pavilion G62 which switches between two VGAs: HD 4200 and HD5400. I don't know if the problem is because HD 4xxx series is now legacy (unsupported) while HD 5xxx series is not, but I also tried setting up makson96's ppa to install fglrx- legacy drivers, but I only get a black screen. I'm now stuck with the open source drivers which suffer from overheating and my notebook shuts itself off before I can do anything. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068661 Title: 1002:6740 Unity does not load after installing fglrx-installer Radeon HD 6700M Series To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/fglrx/+bug/1068661/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 967091] Re: Wrong tint in flash when it uses video acceleration
Well, it seems he tried to reproduce it in the end... but it's not happening on his Quadro 2000. My friend has a GT430, and after we both upgraded to Precise he was shocked to see that I was displaying blue faces while he was not. I'm putting my 2 cents in, but I think we can finally state that this issue is happening on a specific range of nVidia cards. The ideal solution would be for Adobe to collect as much data as possibile about the affected cards and provide an ad hoc solution. Also, it makes sense when you think it's related to Stage Video: I was displaying blue faces on Vimeo too. [Bug 995715] Re: X defaulting keyboard locale to US at login after upgrading distribution if a Logitech Unifying Receiver is plugged in
Okay, it seems I made some progress. I was right to think the problem was in the keyboard. I tried these steps: 1) Started the machine with a USB keyboard plugged in: KDM detects the correct locale. 2) Started the machine with both USB keyboard and Logitech K800: KDM is detecting the correct locale for BOTH keyboards. 3) Started the machine with Logitech K800 plugged in: wrong locale again. So the problem seems to be in keyboards locale detection using the Logitech Unifying Receiver. I could also reproduce the problem: 1) Installed Oneiric on a new partition with a USB keyboard plugged in. (RIGHT LOCALE) 2) Unplugged the USB keyboard and plugged the Logitech Unifying Receiver. (RIGHT LOCALE) 3) Rebooted to KDM. (RIGHT LOCALE) 4) Upgraded to Precise and rebooted to KDM. [Bug 995715] Re: X defaulting keyboard locale to US at login after upgrading distribution
@flowermachine Are you using a wireless keyboard? And can you please add your xorg.conf? I search Googled for this problem too and it seems related at first, but people could solve it by adding locale settings to 10-evdev.conf or xorg.conf. I tried both proposed solutions, but it didn't work so I'll keep the bug on Ubuntu and let users select a different distribution if that happens to be the case. Also, are you suggesting I should add the xserver-xorg package to the bug? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995715 Title: X defaulting keyboard locale to US at login after upgrading distribution To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/995715/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 995715] [NEW] X defaulting keyboard locale to US at login after upgrading distribution
Public bug reported: After upgrading to Precise, X locale is defaulted to en_US regardless of system-wide and user specific options. I found out about this issue when I tried to login via the KDM greeter and it was not recognizing my password. I got pam authentication failures in the auth.log, but authorizations files were just fine. In fact, I could login from the console and within KDE itself. When I tried typing on the KDM username box, I found out that special characters were not corresponding to my it_IT layout. My password was including the special character @ that was typed as ; thus not accepting my password. I worked this around by changing password to not include any special character. I installed LightDM and the problem persisted, so I thought about an evdev bug. I posted this issue on the Kubuntu Forums at first, where you can find more information and logs [ http://www.kubuntuforums.net/showthread.php?58623-Can-t-login-via-KDM- after-upgrading-to-Precise ]. Recently, German users were experiencing the same problem [ http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/kein-login-in-kdm-nach-upgrade/ ] where I found out that the only thing in common is a wireless keyboard. I bought a Logitech K800 (which uses a Unifying Receiver) when I was running Oneiric, making this the first time I upgraded my distribution with a wireless keyboard. If that happens to be the problem, It could mean that my keyboard locale was not recognized during the upgrade process. I'm attaching some configuration files and logs, please tell me if you need more information. $ lsb_release -a LSB Version: core-2.0-ia32:core-2.0-noarch:core-3.0-ia32:core-3.0-noarch:core-3.1-ia32:core-3.1-noarch:core-3.2-ia32:core-3.2-noarch:core-4.0-ia32:core-4.0-noarch Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release:12.04 Codename: precise $ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg xserver-xorg: Installato: 1:7.6+12ubuntu1 Candidato: 1:7.6+12ubuntu1 Tabella versione: *** 1:7.6+12ubuntu1 0 500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-input-evdev xserver-xorg-input-evdev: Installato: 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu1 Candidato: 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu1 Tabella versione: *** 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ apt-cache policy locales locales: Installato: 2.13+git20120306-3 Candidato: 2.13+git20120306-3 Tabella versione: *** 2.13+git20120306-3 0 500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ apt-cache policy console-data console-data: Installato: (nessuno) Candidato: 2:1.12-1 Tabella versione: 2:1.12-1 0 500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/universe i386 Packages $ apt-cache policy kdm kdm: Installato: 4:4.8.3-0ubuntu0.1~ppa2 Candidato: 4:4.8.3-0ubuntu0.1~ppa2 Tabella versione: *** 4:4.8.3-0ubuntu0.1~ppa2 0 500 http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/ppa/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 4:4.8.2a-0ubuntu4 0 500 http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: auth authentication characters failure gdm kdm keyboard lightdm locale login mapping pam password precise screen special unix wrong x11 xkb xorg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995715 Title: X defaulting keyboard locale to US at login after upgrading distribution To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-evdev/+bug/995715/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 260744] Re: no login possible after installing kubuntu-desktop
I'm affected by this bug after upgrading Kubuntu Oneiric to Precise by changing every oneiric occurrence to precise in sources.list and then running a dist-upgrade (because my environment was not triggering an available upgrade notification). [Bug 591532] Re: [LUCID-NATTY] ata errors { DRDY ERR } { ABRT }
I'm sorry, I've just read jonie's reply. @jonie So, according to you it's just a matter of reading time in reallocated sectors? I don't know how to look for them, can you point it out to me, please? It makes sense, though, since the system is definitely usable. One more thing I noticed is that after buying another SATA drive I'm now having either `failed command READ DMA` or `failed command READ DMA EXT` (might be unrelated), but just on ata4.00 (one of the old drives), the new one and the other one show no errors, so I'm thinking about a power supply issue (too many drives attached to one cable?) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/591532 Title: [LUCID-NATTY] ata errors { DRDY ERR } { ABRT } -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 705596] Re: [STAGING] nVidia graphics are broken on linux-image-2.6.35-25
meidarocha, If you're using proprietary drivers, you will need to build them against EVERY new kernel. To accomplish that in my way, start 2.6.35-25 recovery mode and drop to root shell. Then `telinit 3`, log in, and `cd` to the path where the drivers are stored. Then `sudo bash nameofthedriver.run`. Re: [Bug 703553] Re: After upgrade to linux-image-2.6.35-25 Radeon graphics are broken
Oh, i was not alone, at least! Since graphics hung for nVidia users at the same time Ati users got it screwed up, and it started working again after a Radeon fix was released, it seems that the buggy changes made to the kernel affected overall graphics. kpackagekit is still not triggering new updates. [Bug 705596] [NEW] [STAGING] nVidia graphics are broken on linux-image-2.6.35-25
Public bug reported: I'm using Kubuntu 10.10 i386 and an nVidia GeForce 9500 GT with proprietary drivers. After upgrading to 2.6.35-25 (mesa?) graphics are broken. With this I mean: 1) When booting normally, it stucks at the boot logo, long before kdm. 2) When booting in recovery mode, I can see few lines of the kernel starting up which stuck and, later, a few green artifacts on the screen above the kernel lines. It's very similar to bug #703553 , but I can't access the tty shell both by pressing Ctrl + Alt + F1 and by entering recovery mode, making it impossibile for me to install nvidia proprietary drivers against this kernel and, obviously, using my pc as normal. 2.6.35-24 is the latest working release. $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available.
