[Bug 1771310] [NEW] zfs doesn't automount after a new disk is plugged in

2018-05-15 Thread Nicolas Jungers via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

I've a zfs that automount itself fine. If I plug a USB disk, the
enumerated list of disk change and on reboot the zfs doesn't automount
anymore and complains on missing device when trying to manually mount
it.

The pool was created with:

zpool create -f srv raidz3 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdd1 /dev/sde1
/dev/sdf1 /dev/sdg1 /dev/sdh1 /dev/sdi1 /dev/sdj1

On boot the removable hdd is enumerated as sdd.

[Bug 1764314] Re: libvirt doesn't show all interfaces

2018-05-03 Thread Nicolas Jungers via ubuntu-bugs
I tried to select an interface in virt-manager and the desired interface
didn't show in the pop-up menu. But it's true that the name can be
entered in the free-form dialog. But I think that for virt-manager it
makes sense to offer a complete view of the network _or_ a statement
informing of the shortcoming.

[Bug 1764314] [NEW] libvirt doesn't show all interfaces

2018-04-16 Thread Nicolas Jungers via ubuntu-bugs
Public bug reported:

libvirt-manager or virsh iface-list -all don't show all interfaces available in
the system.
Specifically, I've 2 bridge defined (br0 and br1) and only br0 shows up in the
selectable menu or in the listing. On 16.04, all bridges show up.

On 18.04 box, ip link gives:

On a practical side, on the 18.04 box, filling in br1 as interface for a
vm definition works (only tested in virt-manager).

[Bug 1759314] Re: missing memory (32Gib instead of 64GiB)

2018-03-28 Thread Nicolas Jungers via ubuntu-bugs
I suspect a HW bug. Kernel 4.13.0-37-generic shows 32 GiB and kernel
4.16.0-041600rc7-generic both report 32 GiB. But on another box with the
very same HW I got 64 GiB with all kernels.

You can mark this one as invalid. Sorry for the false alarm.

[Bug 762349] Re: [SRU] Difficult to distinguish which tab is selected

2017-07-17 Thread Nicolas Jungers
The old fix doesn't work any more because the names of the properties
have changed.

This works for me:

notebook.terminal-notebook tab {
background-color: #a2a1a0;
foreground-color: #ff;
}

notebook.terminal-notebook tab:active {
background-color: #ff;
foreground-color: #010101;
}

I've put the file in ~/.config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css. You may adapt the colors
at your liking. The original definitions are in
/usr/share/themes/Ambiance/gtk-3.0/apps/gnome-terminal.css

[Bug 1629782] Re: Hotspot crashes the device and reboots

2017-01-25 Thread Nicolas Jungers
For me the phone hang if and when I turn the hotspot off. It doesn't
hang immediately, but in the minutes that follow. It's pretty reliable.

OTOH, if I switch to plane mode, and then back to normal mode, the
hotspot is turned off an my phone doesn't hang. That's also pretty
reliable.

[Bug 1406810] Re: [iMac11,1] Unable to boot

2016-09-27 Thread Nicolas Jungers
Christopher Penalver, I did test several versions.

12.04 with nomodeset -> stop at the console with an Xorg error (no screen found)
12.04 without nomodeset -> black screen

12.10 with nomodeset -> hang in console mode
12.10 without nomodeset -> black screen

13.04 with nomodeset -> hang in console mode
13.04 without nomodeset -> black screen

11.10 with nomodeset -> black screen
11.10 without nomodeset -> black screen

Kernel 4.8.0rc8 with nomodeset -> OK
Kernel 4.8.0rc8 without nomodeset -> black screen

Please note that grub editing is really sluggish except for 11.10 and
12.04.

[Bug 1406810] Re: screen is garbled with 14.10 (was fine with 14.04)

2016-09-08 Thread Nicolas Jungers
Christopher Penalver, I understand that the bug that affect me is of low
interest, so I don't expect that upstream shall fix it except by chance,
nor that you may have lot of time to spend on it.

The negatives for me are a sluggish display and an inability to wake up
the screen after going to sleep. It is tolerable most of the time.

When I have time, I'm willing to do tests but just checking the new
kernels is not a promising strategy. So again, do you have a suggestion
beside just testing the new kernels?

Regards,
N.

[Bug 1406810] Re: screen is garbled with 14.10 (was fine with 14.04)

2016-09-06 Thread Nicolas Jungers
Christopher Penalver, I've now tested the 4.8-rc5. Unsurprisingly the
result is the same than for 4.8-rc4.

Do you think that testing each new kernel version one after the other is
a path to a solution? It feels more like a path to madness to me.

To recap, 14.04 with kernel 3.13 *was* working and both 14.10 (with
kernel 3.16) - 15.04 (with kernel 3.19) *were not* working. 15.10 wasn't
working either but Apple released in October a "bios" upgrade that you
make me apply to debug the situation. Since then 14.04 doesn't work
anymore.

Do you have any suggestion?

Christopher Penalver, with nomodeset, all the kernels are "working".

So to resume, you want me to bisect between 3.13 and 4.4 to seek what?

2016-09-05 Thread Nicolas Jungers
Christopher Penalver, I'm not sure that we understand each other. Since
the bios upgrade there is *no* good kernel version for 14.04.

I don't mind the chore of a kernel bisect, but I haven't a starting
point.

2016-09-03 Thread Nicolas Jungers
Yes, with nomodeset it works with 14.04.1. Do you want me to install the
12.04?

To recap, it was working with 14.04 and not with 14.10/15.04/15.10/16.04
before the bios upgrade. After it, it wasn't working anymore on 14.04
but still didn't work on 15.10 and 16.04. I haven't tried 14.10 and
15.04 but I think it may be pointless.

[Bug 1406810] Re: screen is garbled with 14.10 (was fine with 14.04)

2016-04-11 Thread Nicolas Jungers
I burned the iso from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current
/xenial-desktop-amd64.iso downloaded yesterday. The image was from the
8th of April.

The boot gives a black screen as usual now that stay till the DVD become
quiet.

When editing the grub line and removing the "quiet splash" arguments to
casper, after an initial black period, white text flickers too fast for
my camera, I'd say a full screen or so, then black again till the end.

I've some new info. I installed 15.10 in server mode, installed lubuntu-desktop

startx unity or startx both works.

But nor lightdm nor gdm start. lightdm crash and gdm gives a black
screen.

[Bug 1406810] Re: screen is garbled with 14.10 (was fine with 14.04)

2016-04-04 Thread Nicolas Jungers
I just tried with 12.04 and I also get a black screen. So I got a black
screen with 12.04, 14.04, 14.10 and 15.10 - Desktop install DVD.

FWIW, to upgrade the bios I had to install OS X 11 (El Capitan), that worked
flawlessly.

2016-03-19 Thread Nicolas Jungers
I've a install of 15.04 running in console mode. I'll add the run of
apport xorg from this one. I've not tried to install a console mode
15.10. I may find the time to do that this WE if needed.

** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 trusty ubuntu

** Description changed:

On a iMac Alu 2010, when
  1) upgrading from 14.04 desktop to 14.10 desktop
  OR
  2) installing 10.10 server (SSH package only)
the screen shows thin horizontal lines moving on a black background.

/etc/X11/xorg.conf is absent (using default config), /var/log/Xorg.0.log
doesn't show any error beside the lack of the fglrx module. But I doubt
it's relevant with the symptoms appearing on the server install.

2016-03-15 Thread Nicolas Jungers
I had the occasion to try again with 15.04, 15.10 and 16.04 (downloaded
Sunday 13 March 2016). In each case the screen is dark with fine lines
going up.

I've no network and no console. The hardware is the one described.

Simon,

The DNS error was a transient one, so not relevant here. The --up script
is the distro standard one and I modified the connection script to
include the "script-security 2" config that was before a OPTARGS from
/etc/default/openvpn.

The /etc/default/openvpn way was the documented way pre-15.04.

Yes, it solves the problem. I thought I reported that before. The
problem is the migration mechanism that has to be corrected. The way I
used "--script-security 2" was the one put forward in the official doc.

The problem shall be the same for the migration 14.04 -> 16.04 (I
presume).

[Bug 1406810] [NEW] screen is garbled with 14.10 (was fine with 14.04)

2014-12-31 Thread Nicolas Jungers
Public bug reported:

On a iMac Alu 2010, when
1) upgrading from 14.04 desktop to 14.10 desktop
OR
2) installing 10.10 server (SSH package only)
the screen shows thin horizontal lines moving on a black background.

/etc/X11/xorg.conf is absent (using default config), /var/log/Xorg.0.log
doesn't show any error beside the lack of the fglrx module. But I doubt
it's relevant with the symptoms appearing on the server install.

withdraw my comment. poweroff works indeed on the server. But
previously, halt without the -p option did a poweroff to.

 Hi Nicolas,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal

attach updated debug information to this report.

 apport-collect -p linux 666853

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
 Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested

Hi Jeremy,

this bug is indeed fixed by an unofficial procedure that involve
blacklisting a bunch of drivers:

Since I added the following in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf my wifi is
working fine.

# ralink
blacklist rt2800pci
blacklist rt2800usb
blacklist rt2x00lib
blacklist rt2x00pci
blacklist rt2x00usb

[Bug 573853] Re: Cannot control squid Unknown instance

2010-08-29 Thread Nicolas Jungers
I solved it for my case by reducing the shutdown_lifetime to 1 seconds in
/etc/squid/squid.conf and modifying the
script in /etc/resolvconf/update-libc.d/squid to replace

restart squid
by
stop squid;sleep 1;start squid

Which defeat the restart intended behavior but doesn't need to wait
forever. Could upstart directly get the value of shutdown_lifetime
from the squid configuration file?

[Bug 255200] Re: Serial port devices (ttyS*) unaccessible from non-root accounts

2010-08-28 Thread Nicolas Jungers
I'm running cu as root and cu doesn't work because it changes its UID to
uucp instead of dialout. It is simple to change the owner and/or
permissions of the devices I use, but the behaviour of cu is still a
bug.

[Bug 486267] Re: Realtek interface 8111/8168B doesn't shows as eth0 with 2.6.31-14-server

2010-08-12 Thread Nicolas Jungers
Jeremy,

as I already notified
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/486267/comments/8)
this bug is a mistake. But the underlying problem, udev undermining
dhcp is still a problem.

[Bug 486267] Re: Realtek interface 8111/8168B doesn't shows as eth0 with 2.6.31-14-server

2010-04-20 Thread Nicolas Jungers
OK, I found the problem and it's indeed a /etc/udev/rules.d/70
-persistent-net.rules problem. The OS is on a USB key that I plug into
various computers. By default udev records the mac address and doesn't
notice that the computer changed. The result defeats the purpose of
dhcp, so I think it still a bug. But then it's a design bug. I suggest
to close this one and to open a new one where appropriate (but where is
it, udev?).

Same problem/symptom today. The only thing noticeable of which I can
think is the fact that I just tried to make a gpt table with parted on 2

Yes I tried with karmic and it's still an issue. I had a look to the

It occurs to me that it's more probably related to the motherboard which
is an Asus M3A3200. The realtek interface shows up as eth2 when I
connect another ethernet interface, otherwise it shows up as eth1 but
never as eth0.
