Public bug reported:
I am running a a Dell XPS 9360 laptop and the wifi started to sometime "hang"
this week after an update (not sure which one).
Running Ubuntu 17.10 (upgraded from Gnome Ubuntu recently)
$lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 17.10
Release:17.10
I observed that five~ error messages like these popup from time to time in
dmesg:
[ 6000.482060] pcieport :00:1c.4: AER: Corrected error received: id=00e4
[ 6000.482082] pcieport :00:1c.4: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected,
type=Data Link Layer, id=00e4(Transmitter ID)
[ 6000.482095] pcieport :00:1c.4: device [8086:9d14] error
status/mask=1000/2000
[ 6000.482105] pcieport :00:1c.4:[12] Replay Timer Timeout
A similar report exists for errors like this: 1521173 but not sure if it
is related to the wifi problem. Most commenters in that report runs
Realtek Wifi adapters while I have ath.
Removing and adding the ath_pci module or disabling and enabling wifi with
network manager seems to fix the issue for a while:
$ sudo modprobe -r ath10k_pci
$ sudo modprobe ath10k_pci
