[Bug 1890924] Re: Location services work with location services off, 20.04

2021-02-24 Thread NoBugs!
I upgraded my 20.04 with the proposed-updates, restarted, and I got an
alert that I needed to accept location permissions upon hitting the
lower left locate button on my app, initially. I open the privacy
settings in location and my app is not listed??

However, location now works, at least every other time. I wonder if anyone else
can run a similar test?
I see no applications have asked for location access, in privacy settings.

I installed Xorg-hwe, kernel hwe and even installed the newer
nvidia-384, nvidia-dkms-390, I still sometimes see large triangle
tearing for split second on screen change. Especially on Impress full
screen presentation, changing Firefox pages etc.

[Bug 1890924] [NEW] Location services work with location services off, 20.04

2020-08-08 Thread NoBugs!
Public bug reported:

Not sure if this is the right package, but in the privacy -> location
settings, in 18.04 I had to have my application be approved by user to
access location with Geoclue. Now it seems this is working without the
location services "enabled"??

My application is repeater-START: https://sourceforge.net/projects
/repeater-start/

Steps to see issue:
1) install Repeater-START and click the locate me button circle to the left. It
goes to your rough location on map.

2) Go to settings, privacy, location, note that location is turned off!?

Ok but now it's looping a different error message, maybe just whatever the last

And again using the previous kernel works. See attached.

[Bug 1888461] [NEW] After upgrade, Linux will not boot

2020-07-22 Thread NoBugs!
Public bug reported:

I have been running 18.04 upgraded on my laptop and today after a
restart-to-upgrade... starting up with Ubuntu 4.15.0-112, the latest
update, it blinks, shows Superblock last write time is in the future...
messages in the top left of the screen, then blanks black screen and
shows the error again.

This is super confusing as I checked the time in BIOS, "date" on terminal and
they were correct.
Adjtime hasn't been changed since 2018 and contains:

$ cat /etc/adjtime
0.0 0 0.0
0
LOCAL

When I go to advanced options I chose the last kernel and now it boots ok.

[Bug 1395258] Re: Ubuntu continuously suspends, resumes, suspends, resumes, when battery low

2017-07-25 Thread NoBugs!
Yes, FYI this has still not been fixed and it still happens on
4.2.0-42-generic

In fact when I deliberately hit suspend action from top right it starts
up again and eats up battery.

[Bug 1311316] Re: After locking screen there is no input field to type password for unlock

2017-07-21 Thread NoBugs!
@Klemen I wonder if it's really this bug, or if it is the infamous bug
in Linux 4.4/4.3 that causes text to mess up and icons to not appear
correctly?

[Bug 1059872] Re: Error formatting disk using disk utility

How is this broken after at least two years? Or is it meant to scare
beginner users that may have chosen the wrong setting, choosing "format"
drive, this is considered to be really a command-line-only task?

[Bug 1673645] Re: A bunch of text goes missing sporadically.

2017-07-15 Thread NoBugs!
May or may not be the same as the icons disappearing bug that happens in 4.4. I
updated again hoping that it would be fixed but it isn't!!
https://askubuntu.com/questions/582980/missing-letters-in-menus-and-folder-names/606583#comment1399040_606583

Seems it never happens on 4.2 so it is likely the Linux version issue.

[Bug 1702413] [NEW] Suspend will not suspend at all 14.04

2017-07-05 Thread NoBugs!
Public bug reported:

Suspend by closing, by selecting suspend from menu, or by pm-suspend is
often not working for me, it will just show a black screen with several
"usb 4-1.5: string descriptor 0 read error: -22" lines and then goes
back to login screen, acting like never set to suspend. Really bad for
battery life!

[Bug 1575000] Re: font glyph corruption on dialog box

2017-03-16 Thread NoBugs!
Also affects 14.04 where I kept getting missing letters, or missing
icons when using latest 4.4 kernel. It didn't happen earlier so I
downgraded to 4.2-lts wily kernel. And yes I checked the memory was not
faulty.

There's been quite a bit of talk about the Linux 4.4 version having a
bug with Intel driver with graphics corruption or missing letters on the
screen:

[Bug 1673645] [NEW] A bunch of text goes missing sporadically.

2017-03-16 Thread NoBugs!
Public bug reported:

Almost every application is missing all or some characters rendering to
screen. I see it in most consoles, dialogs, and the upper right hand
calendar. Sometimes closing and reopening fixes it.

This may be happening after close and reopen as I don't remember seeing
this happen right after starting up the laptop.

[Bug 1552750] Re: i915 corruption in 4.4.0-9

2017-03-04 Thread NoBugs!
I still see this on Intel 14.04 machine with 4.4.0-64-generic
#85~14.04.1-Ubuntu. It happens in fairly random way quite often after
close and open of the laptop.

Images may either not display: http://askubuntu.com/questions/850754
/what-happened-to-my-dash-icons

or show up with garbling as in attached screenshot.

It may or may not be only the outer fullscreen restore button, as it
always is at the moment. It showed in the upper right icon for awhile,
it's like something is putting random junk in some random image memory
location?

[Bug 1635103] [NEW] Firefox has black glitches on screen on Wordpress wp-admin and other sites.

2016-10-19 Thread NoBugs!
Public bug reported:

Go to a Wordpress site wp-admin, edit a page, notice when the left bar
slides away it leaves a black bar. I've seen a similar glitch on a
Twitter page with top bar sliding out but I can't seem to find it again.

Please see screenshot.

[Bug 1602059] [NEW] Alt-tab and the dash are behind all other windows

2016-07-11 Thread NoBugs!
Public bug reported:

Alt-tab is not visible at all unless I don't have any windows over the
middle of the screen.

The top-left Ubuntu button shows applications and stuff, but when I
click it, it actually clicks the window behind it!!

Very very annoying, and this did not happen before upgrading 16.04.

Thanks in advance

[Bug 1369651] Re: "libmtp error: Could not send object info" when copying content to root MTP folder

2016-05-15 Thread NoBugs!
It's actually happening when you copy to non-root-directory, unless
Samsung Android/Phone/Music/ is considered root folder.

Keeps freezing or just does nothing - maybe it's caused by dashes or _
in the folder or file name? Going too slow or just crashing, when
connected to Android 5.1.1 device. Maybe it's just that version?

[Bug 1577172] Re: xenial python-support doesn't install

2016-05-02 Thread NoBugs!
I still think this is a bug - ideally they should have set up a
transitional "python-support" package requiring the new one as described
here: https://wiki.debian.org/Renaming_a_Package

As it is now, I guess packagers have to distribute a .deb for 16.04+ and
a separate one for older systems?

This is still happening, on 14.04. Any suggestions, or any way I could
make this bug report have more valuable debug info? Should I report the
bug to http://www.imagemagick.org/script/contact.php instead?

[Bug 1527988] [NEW] Keyboard > Shortcuts Typing > Alternative Characters Key set to Caps Lock disables Caps Lock without enabling alternative characters

2015-12-20 Thread NoBugs
Public bug reported:

Keyboard > Shortcuts Typing > Alternative Characters Key set to Caps
Lock disables Caps Lock without enabling alternative characters, tried
this without good results in 15.10, but I found out about this problem
on askubuntu with user of 14.04 encountered this problem first.

After setting Alternative Characters Key to Caps Lock, Caps Lock does
not help to write alternative characters and it is disabled from
functioning normally.

unity-control-center:

Expected to be able to write alternative characters after pressing Caps Lock.

[Bug 1485269] [NEW] Display settings window disappears

2015-08-15 Thread NoBugs!
Public bug reported:

When I go to the display settings on external monitor, and switch the
external and laptop screens' position and apply, the whole display-
screens window disappears. Shortly after, it reverts back since I
couldn't click keep-these-settings.

I think this is caused by going to the external monitor(not laptop) to
open the screen settings initially.

[Bug 1477815] Re: Tinyscrollbar doesn't work in Ubuntu-Firefox 40

2015-08-11 Thread NoBugs!
This bug is confirmed in
https://github.com/wieringen/tinyscrollbar/issues/59

It causes a similar bug in Bootstrap:
https://github.com/twbs/bootstrap/issues/13748

The odd thing is I don't see any other browser than Firefox in Ubuntu 14.04
that returns true for:
(ontouchstart in document.documentElement)

[Bug 1477815] [NEW] Tinyscrollbar doesn't work in Ubuntu-Firefox 40

2015-07-23 Thread NoBugs!
Public bug reported:

If you go to http://baijs.com/tinyscrollbar/ and try to click the
scrollbar in their examples section, you can't actually scroll. (The
mousewheel works at least here).

This happened in the 39 beta too iirc. Pretty much every other
browser/Firefox works. Maybe the beta ppa isn't being built correctly?

The same happens in 3.19.0-031900rc7-generic

Does this bug need to go to the Linux Kernel tracker?

Just tried 3.18.0-031800rc6-generic 64-bit, it tries to suspend, and
just starts up again to lock screen. No infinite loop, at least.

I tested an old 13.04 disk ( I don't know if I have a 13.10 around), and
it gave numerious Unity/Compiz crash warnings, and on low-battery it did
try to shut down and immediatly came back up like in Trusty.

[Bug 1395258] Re: Ubuntu continuously suspends, resumes, suspends, resumes, when battery low

2014-11-22 Thread NoBugs!
I updated with the latest kernel .deb, uname -a gives me:

Linux linuxlaptop 3.18.0-031800rc5-generic #201411162035 SMP Mon Nov 17
01:36:34 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I still see the problem. When it suspends at low battery, it immediately
starts up again, but doesn't go into an infinite loop of suspend-
resumes. When I shut it I hear it suspend, disk powers down, then it
powers up.

2014-11-21 Thread NoBugs!
Public bug reported:

I've had this problem happen at least once before - when Ubuntu sees
battery is critically low, it suspends, but immediately starts up again,
shows login screen, suspends, starts up to the login screen, suspends.
Even if you log in quickly and click suspend, or shut the laptop, it
still suspends and resumes again and again.

[Bug 1382846] [NEW] Firefox offers to open iTunes link in wrong application.

2014-10-18 Thread NoBugs!
Public bug reported:

In 14.04, when you have Tunesviewer installed and go to an iTunesU page
(for example, search for Stanford iTunesU or Liberty itunesU) it
offers to open Tunesviewer for itmss:// url it sends you to.

Unfortunately in 14.10 it offers to open the page in Rhythmbox, which
doesn't work. (Actually Rhythmbox doesn't even work for subscribing
podcast rss from Firefox anymore - but that's another bug -
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/1051442)

I haven't tested other URI scheme:// protocols to check if it opens
correct application - Could this be a temporary bug in Ubuntu Unicorn or
is this a change in the system, similar to how it changed in Ubuntu 11.x
as described here? http://jarrpa.net/2011/10/28/creating-custom-url-

[Bug 1051442] Re: Rhythmbox doesn't subscribe when called with iptc url

2014-10-02 Thread NoBugs!
What do you mean by report a wishlist? I'm on a 12.04 machine right
now, and it all works:

Choosing Rhythmbox when a podcast is open in Firefox (immediately opens
Rhythmbox and subscribes the feed).

Choosing Add to Podcast Manger in Tunesviewer immediately opens
Rhythmbox and subscribes the feed.

Running rhythmbox itpc://www.oneplace.com/ministries/let-my-people-
think/subscribe/podcast.xml immediately opens Rhythmbox and subscribes
the feed.

All three of these methods fail in the latest 14.04, so this is a
regression.

[Bug 1051442] Re: Rhythmbox doesn't subscribe when called with iptc url

2014-09-30 Thread NoBugs!
Any ETA on a fix for this? Will this be fixed before 14.10 is released?

This also affects subscribing to a podcast from Firefox - IIRC you used
to be able to view a podcast, select /usr/bin/rhythmbox and subscribe to
a podcast, and it's no longer possible to do this.

This is especially troubling since the gi.repository bindings are apparently
also broken, as described here:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/24100017

In other words, no way for other applications to subscribe a podcast,
except ask user to go to podcasts, add, paste in a url, subscribe.

[Bug 1366642] Re: Resume laptop sometimes shows no lock screen, sometimes lock screen with no text input.

2014-09-24 Thread NoBugs!

Fixed a week ago? I don't think so, I'm still seeing the case where
sometimes it comes up with lock screen, sometimes it doesn't have a lock
screen, and just lets you work. So, I don't think this is just a
duplicate of that other bug.

[Bug 1247572] Re: Nokia Lumia 620 (WP8) fails to mount reliably via gvfs-mtp in nautilus

2014-08-31 Thread NoBugs!
Same on Lumia 521. This is a popular phone, and it doesn't show the
internal storage or sd at all, just freezes!

For me mtp-detect gives:

$ mtp-detect

Trying again gives:

[Bug 1358595] [NEW] Unity and desktop effects are extremely slow, some windows don't show on Alt+Tab-ing.

2014-08-18 Thread NoBugs!
Public bug reported:

I noticed that operations like switching windows were taking an
extremely long time, and opacity fade in is taking 10s to a minute or
more. I quit Netbeans and Firefox, though they didn't seem to be loading
the system down too badly. Still going slow. I also noticed none of the
dropdowns from the Ubuntu status icons in upper right work.

I open Firefox again, and it slowly fades in, and works, but alt-tab
doesn't show it as available - though it is right on the (only) screen.
It seems now any window that is called up takes a loong time to go from
transparent to visible.

About this time I also saw that Nemiver debugger icon jumped up and
wiggled - like it was alerting about process needing to be debugged?

I'm still seeing this problem although no high-cpu processes are
happening. At the same time this started I also noticed that searching
in the dash was breaking - update couldn't even find update manager.

[Bug 1304627] Re: Can't enable third screen on Samsung NP700Z5C

2014-07-24 Thread NoBugs!
I see nearly the exact problem on Dell XPS 15, which is Intel+Nvidia
GeForce GT 630M, should be similar to the Samsung's Intel+GEforce 640M.

I have the Nvidia driver working, both outputs work, but not at the same time.

[Bug 1067229] Re: Netbeans popup windows placed on wrong screen in dual monitor

2014-07-21 Thread NoBugs!
This was happening to me today - both menus and autocomplete! And this
is Netbeans 8 on 14.04.

Is there no workaround, or at least a way to trick Netbeans into
thinking a certain screen is the default screen?

[Bug 1346753] [NEW] Chromium doesn't want to show, after unplug, and later plug in to second screen.

2014-07-21 Thread NoBugs!
Public bug reported:

I had Chromium working on double screen set up, seemed fine except for
some odd resizing behavior, and sometimes freezing like Chrome often
does.

Then I unplugged, closed the lid, later opened and connected laptop to
screen, but noticed there was no Chromium in super+w window list, but
there were Chromium windows in alt-tab list.

Although I could alt-tab to Chromium windows, see the previews in the
Ubuntu alt-tab's preview, I saw no window when switching to it. Finally,
alt+space and maximize showed the window, but the outer chrome was still
invisible for a while. Same for other Chromium windows. All other
windows were fine.

[Bug 1311403] Re: Can't type password after resume.

2014-07-11 Thread NoBugs!
Yikes, I just noticed after clicking in the upper right dropdowns, then
clicking in the password and entering password, it worked, and what I'd
previously typed was in the terminal (which had had focus)!

So this is a security bug.

[Bug 1051442] Re: Rhythmbox doesn't subscribe when called with iptc url

2014-06-07 Thread NoBugs!
This is actually still happening on the latest 14.04, it's really a
problem.

From the command line, running either rhythmbox
http://javascriptjabber.com/podcast.rss; or rhythmbox
itpc://http://javascriptjabber.com/podcast.rss; will not work at all,
just open up Rhythmbox to podcasts, and not subscribe anything.

There really should be a way to automate subscribing a podcast.
