I managed to fix this by installing the nvidia-prime package and tweaking the
bumblebee config files a little.
this is weird though since on previous versions of ubuntu the installation of
the nvidia-prime package used to break bumblebee, but the same thing that
breaks it apparently
I am not sure how to help in your scenario. When I made the setting
adjustment I was not only able to use the existing USB 3.0 port, I was
able to get the USB 3.0 speeds. Did you validate zero transfer speed
difference between a USB 2.0 versus a USB 3.0 device? Is there anything

I was able to mount a USB 3.0 device and validated approximately 2x the data
transmission speed.
So USB 3.0 is now working for me.

Ubuntu 12.04, using an ASUS PCE-N15 with the RTL8188CE chipset.
Connects to the network but the connection is very flakey.
Intermittent dropouts.
Best way to test is with streaming audio. I get constant dropouts,
especially when browsing at the same time.

The other one is referencing a video issue, mine is referencing the
inability to install to UEFI-based systems!

something strange happened.
i switched the display manager to KDM (dpkg -configure)
after a reboot and logging in using KDM it started to ask all kinds of
passwords for unlocking keyrings etc.
so I concluded that wasn't a huge success so I switched it back to lightdm and
strangely the bug
