[Bug 150997] nvidia driver issues

2007-10-09 Thread Onur Gumus
Public bug reported:

Hello,
I am trying to use nvidia drivers. It was working with fiesty and gutsy. But
with the recent updates of gutsy. IT does not work anymore. When I enable the
nvidia driver from restricted drivers managers , after rebooting , it falls to
fail safe X and the only way I could boot on to gnome was to select nv (not
nvidia)

I tried purging and removing my current nvidia-glx-new driver and re
installing. IT did not work. IT seems it still uses 100.14.11 still
although the so called installed version is 100.14.19

Here's the output of my command line :

Yes I did. No joy.

2) can you post the output of this command?

3) Which version of Envy did you use?
0.9.4-0ubuntu4

I have tried envy a long time ago. And I could still use beryl at that time.
Can you offer me any fix ?

Thanks I fixed the issue, by cleaning the driver from envy and re
installing from envy.

AFAIK envy was not the problem. It was I forced 100.14.11 at sometime
recently. Ironically, the only solution came from envy. It fixed my
driver issues. Thanks

Note : I also had to run dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg since my monitor
resolution was not set correctly.

[Bug 57355] Re: BCM1390M (broadcom 4311) with ndiswrapper and nvidia IRQ conflicts

2006-12-12 Thread Onur Gumus
I can confirm this bug with my HP dv6000 series computer. Note that this
is not ubuntu specific. Some people argue it is on the bios and/or
kernel level. And some other people the issue (specifically for
ndiswrapper and nvidia) has been / will be resolved in 2.16.19 linux
kernel.

Note that this issue is not a bug in 64 bit kernels. With 64 bit kernel
on AMD you can make ndiswrapper and nvidia working together without a
workaround. But this does not elminates the probem for 32 bits.

While rejecting this bug is sensible (since it is not ubuntu specific) I
would expect developers to take the initiative and offer a solution for
users. Or contacting with nvidia , linux kernel, or ndiswrappers and
acknowleding about the issue would be a great step. Because wide range
of laptop users are affected from this issue.

I can say that for edgy , this bug is obsolete for HP NX7010 users.
Default driver ati in edgy, can enable direct 3d.

IF YOU WANT BETTER PERFORMANCE FOR YOUR HP NX7010, INSTALL RADEON
DRIVERS, NOT FGLRX.

refer to : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver INSTEAD. For
tweaking part, the only valid value for Option AGPMode is 1
(which is default). Otherwise you will get a dead blank screen.

it always happens. Though I also have kubuntu-desktop installed. But I
do not think it has anything to do with this.

Also I suspect this bug occurs not only Turkish keyboard but most
foreign keyboards.

Also say when I type man date, at a point in the man pages displayed
text is like broken as below

-rfc-3339TIMESPEC
output date and time in RFC 3339 format. TIMESPEC=‘date’,
‘sec‐

So probably man itself is breaking the keyboard layout. But as told when
I re-open the gnome-terminal everything works normal

** Description changed:

Hello, I am using HP NX7010 with Turkish Q keyboard Layout and most of
the things work flawlessly except one strange issue I encountered today
- within Dapper Drake 6.06
+ within Dapper Drake 6.06 with Gnome

- * I open up a console, and type Turkish letters it works fine
+ * I open up a console (gnome-terminal) , and type Turkish letters it
+ works fine

  * Then I type man tail and I see manual page for tail command. But at
a point I see some strange letters (-f parameter)

  * Finally I quit from man page and drop back to console. I see my
  turkish letters are displayed incorrectly.

This happens only within that console's context. If I close it and
reopen it everything works fine. I know that this is a very minor issue.
Nevertheless I still see some benefit in posting it here

I confirm this bug with HP nx 7010 here. Note that if you install
kubuntu along with ubuntu, you will see this is no longer an issue (of
course only in kubuntu)
