[Bug 1770528] Re: Purging of old backup - Simple cut-off is not happening

2018-05-19 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
Hi,

I was one of the main developers of Sbackup.
I have devoted myself to other projects for quite some time now (leaving
sbackup to others).
Developers interested in this project come and go depending on their free time.
This explains the time it took for you to have and answer to your questions.

I want to praise you for the effort you put on analyzing the issue.

In your example, the way you expected Sbackup to work is to do the
action described bellow:

2018-04-25_22.00.11.927348.mcs-Ubuntu.ful/ <-- CUTOFF
2018-04-26_22.00.08.250440.mcs-Ubuntu.inc/ <-- CUTOFF
2018-04-27_22.00.07.487993.mcs-Ubuntu.inc/ <-- CUTOFF
2018-04-28_22.00.08.383888.mcs-Ubuntu.inc/ <-- CUTOFF
2018-04-29_22.00.06.820683.mcs-Ubuntu.inc/ <-- CUTOFF
2018-04-30_22.00.08.240341.mcs-Ubuntu.inc/
2018-05-01_22.00.08.232810.mcs-Ubuntu.inc/
2018-05-02_22.00.07.980758.mcs-Ubuntu.ful/
2018-05-03_22.00.07.042217.mcs-Ubuntu.inc/
2018-05-04_22.00.08.945832.mcs-Ubuntu.inc/
2018-05-05_22.00.07.219102.mcs-Ubuntu.inc/
2018-05-06_22.00.08.145880.mcs-Ubuntu.inc/
2018-05-07_22.00.08.746766.mcs-Ubuntu.inc/
2018-05-08_22.00.08.245251.mcs-Ubuntu.inc/
2018-05-09_22.00.07.699726.mcs-Ubuntu.ful/

However, doing this would leave 2 *orphans backups*

2018-04-30_22.00.08.240341.mcs-Ubuntu.inc/
2018-05-01_22.00.08.232810.mcs-Ubuntu.inc/

What I call orphan backup here is a backup you would not be able to use
(because you would not be able to revert a folder from it. Every Incremental
backup has to have a parent (Full backup). So even with the Simple cutoff
fonctionnality, we don't want you to lose the 2 incremental backups that would
have been left on the disk. So Sbackup will only remove all the backups that
are before the parent of the 2 inc backup.
This explain the situation you got.

I agree however that is not described in the documentation. I would
welcome any suggestion on the way to describe it in a user friendly way.

[Bug 1218309] Re: Gnome-shell freeze

2013-12-21 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
Hello,

Seeing the number of subscription to this bug, I believe it also affect
a huge number of users. In fact, I usually use Unity. I had no problem.
Then I installed gnome shell and started using it. It usually freezes
out of the blue after 1 hour usage. As mentioned by the OP the mouse
moves but you can click wherever you want, you won't get any result.

In the end, I stopped using gnome-shell, even if I must admit that, to
my taste, the Shell beats Unity.

[Bug 311429] Re: simple-backup-config.py crashed with NoOptionError in get()

2009-10-15 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
Hi,

Can you test the following ?
https://launchpad.net/nssbackup/+announcement/2189
It's NSsbackup. It will be the new version of Sbackup. It's the supported
version of Sbackup. We (NSsbackup team) don't change Sbackup anymore. We will
push to have NSsbackup replacing Sbackup in the repositories.

It can upgrade previous versions of Sbackup version. But I anyway
suggest that you backup your Sbackup confguration and move your backup
folder before testing.

[Bug 176838] Re: Incremental backups should not appear incremental when restoring

2009-03-07 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
I really don't think this problem is still present on 0.2 RC 6.

Currently, the full file list is shown from an incremental snapshot with the
precision is the file is included or not.
Then on can restore a non-included file using the "revert" and "revert as"
button, which will get the latest version of this file (starting from the
selected snapshot)
I believe this solves the issue.

However, an improvement can be added by disabling the "restore" and
"restore as" button, when a non included file is selected.

2009-01-17 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
Quoting the developer commit:
==

[Bug 6022] smbc_urlencode and smbc_urldecode were not exported
- Since the revamp of libsmbclient, there has still been an external
declaration for smbc_urlencode and smbc_urldecode in libsmbclient.h, yet
those functions were renamed and made private. The two choices were to
remove the function names from libsmbclient.h or to make them public
again. The reported requested that they be public. This commit makes it so.

I tested and indeed, the smbc_urlencode symbol defined in the header is not
found in the libsmbclient.a file on intrepid but is found in hardy

I am trying to figure out is this is due to the sources or to a wrong build.

[Bug 317761] Re: debuild doesn't take "*.a" file anymore in the sources

2009-01-16 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
Hi,

I am not home for the moment so I can't provide a build.log right now
but I can give you a link to the sources I wanted to pack on intrepid.

https://edge.launchpad.net/~team-xbmc-svn/+archive
*  xbmc_8.10final1svn17113-hardy1.diff.gz  (6.6 KiB)
* xbmc_8.10final1svn17113-hardy1.dsc (1.7 KiB)
* xbmc_8.10final1svn17113.orig.tar.gz (121.3 MiB)

Getting those, you can unpack them and try to repack using "debuild -S
-sa", you migth notice a diff between the two packages.

I will try to create a smaller example to reproduce, when I get home.

Looking at the changelog in
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/main/d/dpkg/dpkg_1.14.20ubuntu6/changelog
, I believe it version 1.14.17 that broke debuild.
Not including some binaries in the sources is IMO a good choice, but we should
at least have a way to tell dpkg-source to include them (bypassing the default).

[Bug 317761] [NEW] debuild doesn't take "*.a" file anymore in the sources

2009-01-15 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: devscripts

Hi,

I noticed on intrepid that debuild doesn't take the .a files in the sources
anymore. Thus I am not able to build my package which has some binaries inside
the sources.
The problem is not happening when using hardy. I was obliged to roll my whole
OS back to hardy cause of this issue. I found no way to specify to debuild to
take the binary inside the source.
The source format I am using is Format 1.0

Regards
wattazoum

hardy version : 2.10.39ubuntu2~hardy1
Intrepid version: 2.10.39ubuntu2~intrepid1

The problem may also be in dpkg-source ...
dpkg-dev hardy version : 1.14.16.6ubuntu4
dpkg-dev intrepid version : 1.14.20ubuntu6

[Bug 176838] Re: Incremental backups should not appear incremental when restoring

Sorry if I was quite rude.

According to your answer, I understand that you're not the kind of users
I were talking about. You are also able to admit your mistakes and I am
really impressed. This was really a wording issue. And I also apologize
as I over reacted.

As for this Bug report, I think it's fixed in NSsbackup (which will be
in version 0.3 the new version of Sbackup : sbackup 1.1). I will add
NSsbackup as an impacted software. Then you can check if you still find
this bug or if you want some improvements.

https://edge.launchpad.net/nssbackup

You should test it with version 0.2 beta . There is a ppa available for
NSsbackup which is NSsbackup team PPA.

I need to take time to work on NSsbackup 0.3/Sbackup 1.1 ...

[Bug 176838] Re: Incremental backups should not appear incremental when restoring

2008-08-03 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
@francesco: One would say : "This is why the source code is open. If you
want to add something to the software, just do it (or find someone who
can do it for you".

I really hate this kind of comment. "and which is only excusable because of "
!!!
This software is made by developers on their free time, they earn nothing from
it, they don't sell it. Moreover they open the code. Would you take some of
your free time to do that ? If the answer is yes, then please fix this
"misfeature" and submit your patch to the developers or to this bug report.

This said, I would like both of you to know that the main developer of
Sbackup is currently busy and he will most likely not take the time to
answer this kind of comment.

[Bug 87312] Re: xsane takes my TV card for a scanner

2008-06-08 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
This is still happening on Hardy :

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg-query --show xsane
xsane 0.995-1ubuntu1

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 8.04
Release:8.04
Codename: hardy

lspci gives the same output.
The scanner is still the same also.

2008-03-27 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
@John Dong: Can you please check and accept the debdiff ?

@Walter Huf : More generally I think we shouldn't rely on backport to
fix a bug on a stable release. Backports are meant just for new
functionalities. Bugs should be fixed on every concerned supported
release. So you're totally right. This is even more critical as curl is
in main so is mean to be officially supported bu Ubuntu . I think you
should open a bug on Ubuntu about this general matter. I'll second it.

@Olexander: thank you for your fix :-)

2008-03-13 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
@john : the easier way to test is to use my PPA
https://help.ubuntu.com/7.10/add-applications/C/extra-repositories-adding.html
.
By the way it's on hardy , I didn't make those changes for gutsy. So you need
to have hardy installed ( or to use a Virtual Machine - on VMware for instance)
To rollback, you'll just have to do it in Synaptic and select the official
version .

Thanks for your help in testing

2008-03-13 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
Just an idea that I had. Please tell me if it's valid and worth the
effort :

Currently we have 3 entries (by default) in the System > Administration menu
for "Software management" (Synaptic, Update Manager, Software source) . I
suppose others would have also "Adept" there. So maybe a submenu is needed for
software.
If we follow the same logic, some other submenu might be needed (like "Network
Management")

[Bug 174277] Re: Launchers under "System => Preferences" and "System => Administration" have similar names, leads to confusion.

2008-03-10 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
Hello,

This problem is indeed a naming issue but it's also due to a lack of
communication. Even if we rename the menu entries, there will be some
users not knowing (guessing?) where to go to do things. After some
explanation one thinks it's logic to have those 2 entries, but if there
is no help, documentation, screencasts, there is chances that one
doesn't understand it. This is another problem though .

Concerning this bug, I propose doing as the initial logger suggested and also
rename :
- System -> Preferences ==> System -> User Preferences
- System -> Administration ==> System -> System Administration

Problem is this bug need to be solved by patching every packages that
has entries in those menus (unless there is another way to do it). And a
wiki page needs to be written with this specification and there should
be a lot of communication on this so that every developers knows about
those specification.

[Bug 164924] Re: [needs-packaging] Gladex

2008-03-07 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
Hello,

well, for the moment I am working on this bug Upstream. After the
packaging strategy will be done, the bug should be easily fixable on
Ubuntu. But as there is a kinda sync between upstream and Ubuntu
(concerning this topic) I'll put this bug on progress status and attach
the BZR branch I am working on (from Upstream)

[Bug 191127] Re: simple-backup-config does not check for validity of regex exclusion rules

2008-02-19 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
Hello,

Thank you for your patch. I appreciate a lot your motivation and help.
I don't maintain Sbackup (at least for now) anymore but as you have submitted a
patch, it would be nice to have it included in Ubuntu for other users.

There is a plan to re-merge Sbackup and NSsbackup though. But that won't
be for Hardy. So it's better having Ubuntu-dev patching Sbackup 0.10.4.

As for Launchpad usage, by submitting your patch here, since I have set
the Bug for all projects (NSsbackup, Sbackup Upstream and Sbackup
(Ubuntu) ), the patch is available for all projects and all developers
have been notified.

As for the plan on Implementing logging in the software, it has been
done on NSsbackup (information available on
https://edge.launchpad.net/nssbackup/ ). You can easily install
NSsbackup by Using NSsbackup-Team PPA ( https://edge.launchpad.net
/~nssbackup-team/+archive ). Take the gutsy version (0.1-6) if you want
something stable. Version 0.2 is the development version.

I'll review you patch and add it to NSsbackup (I must admit that I was
thinking that I've already fixed this bug :-( ).

Best regards
wattazoum

Hello,

Thank you for this bug report. NSsbackup has indeed the same problem.
About your question, I recommend you post a patch here and upstream. But I
don't think the upstream project is maintained anymore. You'll have more chance
of having your patch in Ubuntu by posting it here.

[Bug 188288] Re: NautilusMenuItemDetails not defined in header file

2008-02-06 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
Well, actually, the piece of code that you gave works fine and well. But in my
case, i wanted to get the label of the NautilusMenuItem, and I didn't find a
way to do this. There is AFAIK no way to get the details of a menu once it's
set. If there is, this is the solution I am looking for and there is no need
for this patch.
But then, maybe the header should be documented concerning this matter.

One other point that made me thinks this was a bug was this comment (in the
nautilus-menu.h file).
So the developer want the user to know what is in the MenuItem, but I didn't
find any obvious way to get them once set.

/* NautilusMenuItem has the following properties:
 * name (string)- the identifier for the menu item
 * label (string) - the user-visible label of the menu item
 * tip (string) - the tooltip of the menu item
 * icon (string)- the name of the icon to display in the menu item
 * sensitive (boolean) - whether the menu item is sensitive or not
 * priority (boolean) - used for toolbar items, whether to show priority
 *  text.
 * menu (NautilusMenu) - The menu belonging to this item. May be null.
 */

Re: [Bug 188288] Re: NautilusMenuItemDetails not defined in header file

2008-02-06 Thread Oumar Aziz OUATTARA
2008/2/6, Sebastien Bacher <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
> Could you mail the nautilus-list to get their comments on the change?

Hello dear Nautilus masters :-)

I have recently opened a bug on Launchpad and Gnome Bug tracker which
is more a code organization issue than an improvement.

Here is the description of the bug :

Hello,

I wanted to patch nautilus-action to add submenu support to it and I
noticed that the struct _NautilusMenuItemDetails is not available in any
of the nautilus extension headers. A search on the web showed me that it
has been defined in the nautilus-menu-item.c source file. So we need to
move it from this file to the header file. Otherwise it's not possible
to use this struct in an external code.

I have already made a patch.
Best Regards

So basically, Sebastien wanted to know what you think about this bug
and patch before applying it to Ubuntu.
I have attached the same patch to the Gnome Bug .

Gnome bug : http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=513854
Launchpad bug : https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/188288

So basically the patch is just a move of a struct out of the source
*.c file to the header.
There is another struct that is defined in that source file but that
is commented as Private in the header, so I didn't move it.

Longing for your answer ...
Best Regards
Aziz
