Not having a working editor is generally considered to be a problem in an operating system. The problem has only been there for like 5 years. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: yelp After installing nvidia driver on a fresh installation of 9.10 Beta (Linux fr... 2.6.31-13-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 10 15:27:55 UTC 2009 i686 GNU/Linux) I got a black screen after reboot. I had to manually erase xorg.conf and reboot to have an operational system but without any hardware acceleration. Even though the screen was completely black I could CTL ALT F2 to switch to the 2nd console Login, then sudo and rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf all this blindly. So the system itself was operational.
