[Bug 1851311] Re: Grub 2.04 Out of memory error, No server error
During bootup, I enter the grub2 command-line by pressing c on the Grub menu. When I type the following command... loopback loop (hd0,gpt2)/ubuntu-19.10-desktop-amd64.iso ...grub hangs, there is no more output or activity on the terminal, and eventually the laptop fans spin up because the laptop gets hot. The path (hd0,gpt2)/ubuntu-19.10-desktop-amd64.iso is valid on my system. I am experiencing this in Ubuntu 19.10 and did not have this issue in prior Ubuntu releases. [Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows
I am using 18.10 and I have not yet experienced this issue. For me, in 18.04, something that consistently triggered this bug was whenever I accidentally touched the touch-screen on my laptop while adjusting it. In 19.04, I am able to interact with the touch-screen using my fingers, and this issue has not appeared yet. Also, I never used workspace related extensions. So, it is possible that there are multiple issues here, that all have the same symptom. Perhaps there is a common underlying cause, such as a memory issue, as Daniel van Vugt had suggested. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1181666 Title: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse clicks from working in app windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-shell/+bug/1181666/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1825919] Re: Gedit right click context menu stops working
It just happened now... When this happened, I had right clicked on a misspelled work in a Firefox text area. I didn't get a popup context menu; I thought it was just Firefox acting up. So, I switched to my open Gedit window, to cut the correctly spelled word from my text document, and the context menu in Gedit wouldn't work either. It didn't work for a while. But as I started to research and copy logs in order to collect information to post here, the right click context menu magically started to work again, after some time. [Bug 1725384] Re: On touch screens, the apps icon in the dock does not open when touched
This bug seems to only affect Xorg. Wayland is not affected (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu- dock/+bug/1725384/comments/18). Since Xorg is not a priority, I suspect this bug is not getting attention. Unfortunately, many of us have to use Xorg (if you have Nvidia hardware, for example). Initially, I thought that perhaps Gnome is generating multiple touch events, causing the apps overview to open, and then close again (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu- dock/+bug/1725384/comments/10). However, this could be an issue in Gnome Shell, Gnome Dash, Xorg, specific hardware, or something else entirely. Let's see if we can narrow it down or find some kind of pattern, or clue, to what is going wrong. Doing this may help provide the developers with enough information to spot the cause and fix this bug. It would really useful for all of us to list the hard ware we have... Public bug reported: SUMMARY There are two expandable sections of the Software Updater window: 1. 'Details of updates' 2. 'Technical description' When the Software Updater window first opens, the 'Details of updates' section is not expand vertically, and an empty 'Technical description' takes 1/2 the vertical space. ISSUE When the Software Updater window first opens, these sections are given the same vertical height, even though 'Technical description' has not been expanded. As a result, 'Details of updates' takes 1/2 the vertical space, and 'Technical description' takes the other 1/2. However nothing is shown in the 'Technical description' section, so Software Updater has a large empty space at the bottom 1/2 of the window. This is especially pronounced if you increase the vertical height of the Software Updater window. See the issue in the attached screenshot 'Software Updater With Bug.png'. STEPS TO RECREATE 1. Open Software Updater when you have updates pending. 2. Notice that the 'Technical description' section is collapsed, so it does not display text. 3. Do _not_ click on the expander triangle next to 'Technical description'. 4. Stretch the Software Updater window vertically using the bottom or top window edge and mouse. 5. Notice that 'Technical description' area takes 1/2 of the vertical window space even though it has not been expanded. **THIS IS THE ISSUE*** 6. Close the Software Updater window. (Do _not_ click Install Now). 7. Open Software Updater (when you have updates pending). 8. Notice that the window 'remembers' its previous size, and is stretched vertically. 9. Notice that 'Technical description' area still takes 1/2 of the vertical window space even though it has not been expanded. **THIS IS THE ISSUE*** 10. Click on the expander triangle next to 'Technical description' 11. A text area appears below 'Technical description'. (It may be blank if you have not selected a package in the 'Details of updates' section, but this is OK). 12. Notice that 'Technical description' area takes 1/2 of the vertical window space, since it has been expanded. This is OK, because there ~is~ a text area to display. 13. Click on the expander triangle next to 'Technical description' again to collapse this section. 14. Notice that 'Technical description' now appears at the _bottom_ of the window. It no longer takes 1/2 the vertical space. The 'Details of updates' frame now uses most of the vertical space, as it should. 15. ***This is how the Software Updater window should look when it first opens in step 2 above.*** HOW IT SHOULD BEHAVE When the Software Updater window first opens: - The 'Technical description' section should be shown near the _bottom_ of the window. - The 'Details of updates' section should be stretched to fill the available vertical space. - The 'Technical description' section should not take 1/2 the vertical space. - The 'Technical description' section should only use 1/2 the vertical space when it is expanded (using the the expander triangle). See the the expected behavior in the attached screenshot 'Software Updater How It Should Look.png'. If restart gnome-shell using the following in a terminal... gnome-shell --replace ...then the dock behaves normally, launching one instance of an application for each tap I do see some errors after I do this, but they may be unrelated, since it works fine after issuing the above command. [Bug 1745888] Re: Two instances of a program launch whenever you touch a favorites icon
Copying the description from duplicate bug #1769540, since there is more information in that description. Also, note that this bug is present in 18.04 (as well as 17.10)... If you touch an icon on the dock using a touch screen, the dock performs duplicate actions for a single touch event. 1. Touching the app-grid icon on the dock with your finger causes the "applications dash" to appear, and quickly disappear, as if you had left-clicked on the app-grid icon *twice* using a mouse button. 2. Touching any favorites icon on the dock with your finger causes the selected application to open *two* instances, as if you had left-clicked on the app-grid icon twice using a mouse button. THIS ONLY AFFECTS UBUNTU-DOCK - This only happens when using the touch screen to interact with the dock. Using a mouse or track-pad works as expected. The top-bar behaves as expected, as well, when using the touch screen. For example, touching the Activities label ovens the "dash overview" as expected; touching the notifications area on the top bar opens the notifications/calendar as expected; touching the indicator icons behave as expected as well. Interacting with open applications using the touch screen also works as expected. Applications respond to touch events as if a single event was generated. UBUNTU DOCK --- Only the ubuntu-dock acts as if it received two (or more) touch events for each single touch action. EXPECTED BEHAVIOR - Ubuntu dock should respond as if it received a single click event, for each single touch event. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION -- If I touch the "Action" item at the top left of the desk-top, the overview appears. THEN, if I touch an icon in the dock, it behaves correctly. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1745888 Title: Two instances of a program launch whenever you touch a favorites icon To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock/+bug/1745888/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1730211] Re: Unable to type capital letters using onscreen keyboard
This is still an issue on Ubuntu 18.04 using Xorg. Interestingly, capital letters now work on the login GDM screen. But on the desktop, it does't work. Touching the virtual shift key still produces lower case letters. Also, when I select the symbols key to bring up the symbols keyboard layout, not all the keys work. The keys below the top row number of number keys actually produce numbers instead of symbols. Some of the virtual symbols keys do nothing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1730211 Title: Unable to type capital letters using onscreen keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/caribou/+bug/1730211/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1729389] Re: [Intel 8260/8265] Bluetooth peripherals work for a few seconds, then don't react
My bluetooth mouse is connected now, but I had to follow a special process... WHAT WORKS: I had to turn OFF my wireless, make sure bluetooth was ON, and then connect/pair the mouse. After the bluetooth mouse connected successfully, I was able to turn wi-fi ON again. Now, my mouse automatically connects a few seconds after logging in. It has not disconnected for the brief time I have used it, but I will post back if I notice any new issues. WHAT DOESN'T WORK: * I found that the previous work-around in comment #17 no longer works. * I found that newer kernels did not work either. NOTES ON KERNELS: I tested mainline kernels 4.14.9 thru 4.14.15. All of these newer kernels produce the following error message during installation: "Error! Bad return status for module build on kernel". (Note: this is most likely because I have the Nvidia proprietary drivers version 384.111 installed). However, kernel 4.14.8 installs just fine. But this did not fix the bluetooth problem, until performed the above procedure. OTHER THINGS I TRIED: I did execute "sudo bluetoothctl", and I tried to "trust" and "pair" my mouse from the command line, prior to performing the "wi-fi-off/wi-fi- on" process. However, I do not think "bluetoothctl" helped. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1729389 Title: [Intel 8260/8265] Bluetooth peripherals work for a few seconds, then don't react To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1729389/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Do we know what the desired behavior requirements are? I'm thinking something like... 1. User taps screen 2. Check if event is in an editable text area 3. If yes, display caribou in half* of the screen where tap did ~not~ occur 4. If no, do not display caribou 5. If caribou is not displayed, sliding up from the bottom of the screen should always be available in order to activate the on-screen keyboard. (* Perhaps this could actually be changed to: display caribou in the quadrant of the screen diagonal to where the tap occurred. [Bug 1731581] Re: Context menus do not appear for Gtk text areas upon right-click
I just noticed a side-effect which may help in debugging this issue... The mouse cursor does not revert to a pointer after doing a right-click. NORMAL EXPECTED BEHAVIOR (a) Typically, if you are hovering over an editable text area, the mouse pointer is a vertical bar (cursor). when you move outside the text area, such as the window title-bar, the mouse pointer reverts to an arrow. (b) Also, when you right click in a text area, the mouse pointer changes to an arrow, so you can pick something in the pop-up context menu that appears. UNWANTED SIDE-EFFECT BEHAVIOR In this case, right-clicking does not change the cursor to an arrow; it stays as a vertical bar. After this, if you move the pointer outside the text area to the window title bar, the mouse pointer is still a cursor (vertical bar shape). Normal behavior should be as described in (a) above. This also happens for window resize pointers. The mouse pointer stays as a cursor every where in the window after right-clicking in the text area. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1731581 Title: Context menus do not appear for Gtk text areas upon right-click To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1731581/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1731581] [NEW] Context menus do not appear for Gtk text areas upon right-click
Public bug reported: When right-clicking on Gtk text areas (such as an editable text area or a text entry field), a context menu does not appear. The pop-up context menu typically lists options such as copy, paste, etc. EXAMPLES Examples of applications that are impacted include: 1. Gedit Text Area 2. Nautlus (editable address bar) 3. Google Chrome URL bar 4. GtkHash (text entry fields) Interestingly the text areas of some other applications do show pop-up context menu when right-clicked: 1. Libre Office Writer 2. Web pages in Google Chrome that require text entry (such as this web page) RECREATING ISSUE I do not have a consistent way to recreate this issue (yet). When I first log in, the right-click context menus work fine. After some time of usage, the right-click context menus no longer appear. If I use the computer long enough (over an hour) without rebooting, this issue always appears. This issue seems to only affect widgets that require text entry. However, there is one exception I have noticed: the tabs in Google Chrome stop showing pop-up context menus at the same time as this issues manifests itself for the rest of gnome-shell applications with text areas. OTHER CONTEXT MENUS Context menus for other widgets do appear upon right-click, as expected, and work fine. For example, the context menu for window title bars appear when right-clicking on them. The context menu for folders and files in Nautilus also appear when right-clicking on them. [Bug 1725384] Re: On touch screens, the apps icon in the dock does not open when touched
It multiple events happen immediately. HOWEVER... I did the same test today, and I get different results... - Sometimes, a single touch on the Dock only does generate a single TouchUpdate event. - Sometimes, a single touch elsewhere on the Screen generates more than one TouchUpdate event. You do have to be very precise with your touch actions to ensure only one TouchUpdate is produced. In general use, multiple TouchUpdate events are generated when you use your finger. I guess this is normal, and the application really just needs to look for a single TouchEnd event. Both the screen and the Dock do generate a single TouchEnd event, and this is probably the important event that applications need to look out for. Nevertheless, in the cases were I was able to cause a single TouchUpdate event on the Dock, I still got the same behavior: - Touching the Applications Grid Button failed to display the applications overview. - I momentarily saw the applications overview expand from the button, and then retract back into the button, as if I had tapped the Applications Grid Button twice, really fast. - Touching an icon on the Dock (favorites) caused two instances of the application to be launched, as if I had tapped the application icon twice, really fast. Does the issue have something to do with the way the Dock handles the TouchEnd events? Caribou (onscreen keyboard) always pops up whenever you touch the screen; could this be influencing the behavior? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1725384 Title: On touch screens, the apps icon in the dock does not open when touched To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock/+bug/1725384/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1725384] Re: On touch screens, the apps icon in the dock does not open when touched
Using xinput, I captured touch events on the dock's Applications Grid Button. For comparison, I captured touch events on another portion of the screen, away from the dock. The results are very interesting... When I click on the Applications Grid Button on the dock, five (!!) Touch events are registered. These five events are enclosed by only one Touch Begin event and one corresponding Touch End event. However, when I click on another portion of the screen, only one Touch events is registered, enclosed by one Touch Begin event and one corresponding Touch End event. This is how the dock should behave. Please see the attached files.
