Forcing people to get rid of old hardware like this, is a step in the
playground of programmed waste of resources and certainly not a green
behaviour.

add Kubuntu to the list. And I agree with #11, ubuntu tries too much to
be like windows for some years now, on the desktop side :(

[Bug 782172] [NEW] bluetooth device not appearing anymore on kde systray since natty upgrade

2011-05-13 Thread PascalCavy
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: bluedevil

bluetooth was working well on kde 4.6.2 (ppa) with maverick
since the upgrade to natty, the bluetooth icon does not appear on kde systray
when i switch it on.

Also when going on kde configuration panel for bluetooth, it claims that
the device is not found.

This seems linked to the kernel. Beacause with kernel 2.6.35-28-generic
bluetooth is working well on KDE, but with kernel 2.6.38-8-generic, the
problem appears.

in either case, bluetooth device is detected by the kernel. I join dmesg
for the 2 cases.

Something strange happened, during my tests, I did the following :
- boot 2.6.35 kernel
- log in kde
- switch on bleutooth
- kde bluetooth icon appeared
- reboot computer on kernel 2.6.38
- bluetooth was still on
- log in kde
- bluetooth icon is there !
- switch bluetooth off
- bluetooth icon diseappers
- switch bluetooth on again
- bluetooth icon does not appear !

computer is a thinkpad X40

[Bug 766490] Re: [Natty-Beta2] Turning off laptop monitor turn off both monitors (laptop and external) on Vostro 3500

2011-05-11 Thread PascalCavy
Same problems with thinkpad X40 since Natty and KDE :

This PC have an integrated video Intel i855GM

1- i am now unable to switch screen between internal and external with Fn+F7
2- At boot the external screen is detected but becomes a clone of the internal
screen, including taking its size, so I have only a portion of my big external
screen that is used
3- if I try to switch with Fn-F7 during Xorg initialisation, before the mouse
of Xorg appears, then both screen goes black and are not usable again
4- If I let both screen initialize and kde start, then I am in situation 2, but
switch screen hard button is inoperative, and kde monitor settings reports only
one screen

It is more probably a kernel problem.

[Bug 660302] Re: e1000e ethernet link down

2011-01-13 Thread PascalCavy
Of course there is no activity since Ubuntu does not answer or take it
into account. There has been sufficient information given to treat this
problem.

So once more at this date 2011-01-13 :

1. the current maverick updated kernel still does not work - ethernet link is
always down when booting this kernel
logs will be added

2. any other latest upstream kernel works - the ethernet link is up and
ethernet usable :
   $ uname -a

2010-11-18 Thread PascalCavy
it still crashed on kubuntu 10.10

I have removed modem-manager and killed it.

I connect the treo650 and press hotsync
the devices appear on the syslog :

device using uhci_hcd and address 11

Nov 18 17:01:48 minipc kernel: [19690.751766] usb 6-1: Handspring Visor / Palm
OS converter now attached to ttyUSB1

I then start
pilot-debugsh /dev/ttyUSB0

as soon as I enter the command menu for example === treo650 reboots !

Nov 18 17:02:23 minipc kernel: [19725.790065] usb 6-1: USB disconnect, address

Nov 18 17:02:23 minipc kernel: [19725.790294] visor 6-1:1.0: device disconnected

So this problem is still not solved.

The current updated maverick kernel renders my integrated ethernet
completely unusable ! The ethernet link always stays down.

I have noticed on my ethernet switch the following difference between old
2.6.32-25.44, current 2.6.35-22.35 and devel 2.6.36-020636.201010210905 :
- before boot at power on the link is up
- on boot the link is put down as soon as 2.6.35-22.35 is started
- on boot the links stays up with the old and devel kernel

[Bug 660302] Re: e1000e ethernet link down

2010-10-23 Thread PascalCavy
I change the subject because in fact it is worse than expected.
When the system boot eth link is often OK and up. But then upon
suspend/resume, it might not come back up.
EVEN unloading/reloading the module e1000e several times does not fix the
problem. The eth link is working well in windows and in lucid.

[Bug 660302] Re: e1000e ethernet link down

2010-10-23 Thread PascalCavy
well I must be clear, sorry.

with K2.6.32-25.44 Eth works OK

With K2.6.35-22.35 Eth works at boot (not every time), then once the
e1000e module is unloaded/reloaded or the machine goes to
suspend2ram/wakeup the link stays down.

[Bug 641816] [NEW] iscsi mounts not restarted after suspend/resume

2010-09-18 Thread PascalCavy
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce
* have an ext4 fs mounted through an iSCSI protocol
* list files there, no problems
* suspend the computer to RAM
* resume the computer

EXPECTED : files accessible on the iSCSI FS

PROBLEM : the FS is still mounted but the files are unaccessible (IO
error)

workaround :
1. umount /iscsifilesystem
2. mount /iscsifilesystem

example after suspend then resume :

[Bug 577038] Re: [regression] hard lock in openoffice when opening files from a remote NFS volume

2010-07-23 Thread PascalCavy
Could you confirm that opening nfs files directly with the command
/usr/lib/openoffice/program/oosplash.bin -writer path to file on nfs share
is working ? As I reported on upstream bug report.

[Bug 577038] Re: [regression] hard lock in openoffice when opening files from a remote NFS volume

2010-05-23 Thread PascalCavy
The problem is on open, not on save which obviously I cannot do !

Openoffice.org in karmic did not worked well either but no hard lock was
observed. It was unable to open nfs files R/W because it was always
reported nfs files are locked by 'unknown' (another known bug of ooo on
NFS).

No other application have this problem on NFS.

nfs server is synology ds207+ :
export: /volume1/shared
192.168.0.1(rw,no_wdelay,no_root_squash,insecure_locks,anonuid=0,anongid=0)
OS: Linux synology 2.6.15 #1141 Sat Mar 13 15:44:39 CST 2010 armv5tejl unknown

Kubuntu:
mount: synology:/volume1/shared on /mnt/shared type nfs (rw,addr=192.168.0.49)

fstab: synology:/volume1/shared/mnt/sharednfs
netdev,nouser,auto,rw,dev,exec,suid

[Bug 553994] Re: knetworkmanager doesn't connect with networkmanager

2010-05-21 Thread PascalCavy
exactly same problem for me on thinkpad X40
after upgrade from karmic to lucid network worked but I experienced some kernel
freeze lots of times and once this problem have been fixed my network manager
icon was always greyed out and unmanaged.

Removing the stale file made it work again thanks a lot !

But this is a workaround effectively showing that NetworkManager should
recreate this file when it is started !
