[Bug 879969] Re: Sudden Loss of Sound
Yes I have, sorry for the long reply my internet is down at my house. I have even gone as far as to completely purge pulse audio and reinstall and nothing. I also have not been able to update in the last two weeks because of the internet but it is supposed to be fixed tomorrow so hopefully I can get some updates and see if the issue is resolved. I will keep it posted here on any changes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/879969 Title: Sudden Loss of Sound To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/879969/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 879969] Re: Sudden Loss of Sound
Updated to pre-released repositories and still no luck with visual confirmation of sound in the panel or the control centre showing audio hardware in the sound settings. Did manage to get sound from flash video and totem but not simultaneously and software volume control is not available except with alsamixer only controlling whether it is mute or not. Rhythmbox just crashes while trying to play anything. As has been previously determined PulseAudio is the prime suspect as it is unable to load the modules to correctly run.
Audio came back after installation of dconf-editor and changing completely unrelated items with the desktop and login screen, ie. Icons and background. However, it is still acting a little strange. Cannot get anything from Firefox to play audio simultaneously with Rhythmbox but Rhythmbox and Totem can play together. Login sounds will not play, sound system takes a moment before loading after login but will play, may have been something with output, did have to switch it over to HDMI again when it finally showed hardware. Have only rebooted once to make sure the sound loaded after a hard boot, will check again now that everything should be set for HDMI audio out.
After a second reboot, the sound reloaded and set back to the analogue audio out. I had to reset the output back to HDMI digital out by hand. Firefox will not run audio out what so ever. I have attached a most recent user log showing the pulseaudio failures. Hope it has some relevancy to the situation. ** Attachment added: user.log.1 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/879969/+attachment/2568604/+files/user.log.1 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/879969 Title: Sudden Loss of Sound To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/879969/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 879969] [NEW] Sudden Loss of Sound
Public bug reported: I updated some packages two days ago and cannot figure out what it did to the sound on my tower. After upgrade to 11.10 I had to apply the fix for the Nvidia HDMI sound out and it worked fine. After that upgrade the other day it stopped working again. Been trying to reapply fixes have reinstalled PulseAudio and nothing. I installed the nightly build of ALSA for Ubuntu last night and the sound seemed to come back to the login screen but I only heard something once. The volume control is still usable on the login screen but cant get it to reproduce any sound. Once logged in I have nothing for sound hardware in the sound settings. ALSA mixer seems to be the same but PulseAudio seems to fail to load daemon. Thanks for the help ill attach the update log file for the past few days. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/879969 Title: Sudden Loss of Sound To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/879969/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

would the video driver also be wat is causing any random GUI lockups? I will be doing various tasks of any sort and out of no where everything with the GUI locks up and I have to reboot with the power switch.
