[Bug 1350808] Re: update-manager unexpectedly restarts system
Yesterday, I lost about an hour's work because of this behavior. I had been editing an audio file in Audacity, and I was going to save it. When Audacity's save-confirmation dialog appeared, I pressed Enter, not seeing that the small Restart dialog had also appeared in the corner of the screen and grabbed keyboard focus. Instead of saving my work, the computer immediately shut down and restarted. After the restart, all my work was lost. $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS Release:14.04 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1350808 Title: update-manager unexpectedly restarts system To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-manager/+bug/1350808/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 988296] [NEW] bzr check awfully slow checking repository in valid_repo
Public bug reported: After upgrading from Ubuntu 10.10 to 11.04 I'm having trouble running meld on some repositories: meld seems to freeze up while bzr runs at 100 % CPU until I kill it. After some digging I find that it's the invocation of "brz check" that seemingly runs into an endless loop: /home/project/autarkse/trunk$ bzr check Checking working tree at '/home/project/autarkse/trunk'. Checking branch at 'file:///home/project/autarkse/branches/V4_0_31_patch/'. Checking branch at 'file:///home/project/autarkse/branches/before-removing-html-files/'. Checking branch at 'file:///home/project/autarkse/branches/before_ui_change/'. Checking branch at 'file:///home/project/autarkse/branches/initial0/'. Checking branch at 'file:///home/project/autarkse/branches/new-ui-branch/'. Checking branch at 'file:///home/project/autarkse/trunk/'. Checking repository at 'file:///home/project/autarkse/'. \ checking commit contents:inventories 0/2 bzr: interrupted However, if I am really patient, bzr will run to an end, and I can start working, but on this particular repository it takes some 3 to 4 minutes with the CPU running hot, and that's every time I open meld on this repository! Apparently, the invocation of "bzr check" was added in revision 24: $ bzr diff -r23..24 meld/vc/bzr.py === modified file 'meld/vc/bzr.py' --- meld/vc/bzr.py 2010-06-24 23:54:27 + +++ meld/vc/bzr.py 2010-09-28 14:29:19 + @@ -57,6 +57,11 @@ return [self.CMD] + self.CMDARGS + ["revert"] def resolved_command(self): return [self.CMD] + self.CMDARGS + ["resolve"] +def valid_repo(self): +if _vc.call([self.CMD, "check"]): +return False +else: +return True def get_working_directory(self, workdir): return self.root ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.04 Package: meld 1.5.0-0ubuntu1.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.38-14.58-generic 2.6.38.8 Uname: Linux 2.6.38-14-generic x86_64 Architecture: amd64 Date: Wed Apr 25 14:31:29 2012 InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS "Lucid Lynx" - Release amd64 (20100429) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: meld UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to natty on 2012-04-23 (2 days ago) ** Affects: meld (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug natty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988296 Title: bzr check awfully slow checking repository in valid_repo To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/meld/+bug/988296/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 681709] Re: mixed locale in dialogs
Robert Roth (evfool) wrote: > (and they should be in English, but should use numeric, date, time, etc > formats from nl_NL locale). Actually, it depends. In running text, the language locale should be used for all formatting even though the user's non-language locale is different. For example, it goes against English usage to use another decimal-point separator than a point, even though the Swedish locale proscribes a comma. In a tabular context it is different, and the user's locale should prevail over the language locale. Compare: "Amount to pay: USD 1,000.12" (English locale throughout) vs "Amount to pay: 1 000,12 USD" (Mixed English and Swedish locale). [Bug 799356] [NEW] gwibber stores extreme number of messages in gwibber.sqlite
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gwibber I noticed that ~/.config/gwibber/gwibber.sqlite is > 640 MB big! Having only run gwibber for a few months and not having posted or received more than a few hundred Twitter messages I was puzzled and took a deeper look in the database. To my surprise I find that gwibber has some 340,000 messages stored in the 'messages' table, complete with message text, of which only a small fraction are from me or to me. It looks like the bulk of the messages is the result of 'search' operations. Needless to say, I find this storing of messages extremely wasteful of disk space. It could easily lead to users running out of space on their home partition. I don't know if I'm using gwibber in the wrong way, but that doesn't really matter. [Bug 666531] Re: Pulseaudio volume control app takes 100% cpu
I can see a clear rise in CPU usage when I have pauvcontrol's "Input Devices" tab open. The rise is due to pavucontrol and especially Xorg taking more CPU, but not more than some 10 %. I think it's the drawing of the input level that causes that. [Bug 759759] [NEW] meld creates new directories in /tmp for each diff, late or no cleanup
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: meld I have found that meld creates a new directory in /tmp for each file it diffs. This causes clutter in /tmp and slowly fills up the file system until meld is closed. Furthermore, if meld crashes or is killed, these directories are not removed. How to reproduce: 1) Open a view of the /tmp directory and watch for files having the "tmp.*-meld" pattern. 2) Make meld open a diff window. 3) Close the diff window, keeping meld open. 4) Make meld open a new diff window on the same file. 5) Close the diff window, keeping meld open. Expected behavior: There should be no directory left in /tmp after the diff window is closed. Actual behavior: For each diff window opened, a new directory is created and left behind. 6) Kill the meld instance. Expected behavior: All remaining meld directories under /tmp should be cleaned up. Actual behavior: All temporary directories are left behind. [Bug 726391] [NEW] Gwibber should load new messages on demand, like Twitter web client
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gwibber The Twitter web client does not display new messages automatically, instead it says something like "2 new tweets" and you have to press a button to see the new tweets. I find that helpful, since I can clearly keep track of what's new since last time I looked. Compare that to Gwibber, which periodically refreshes its view and automatically displays new messages with no distinction of what's old or new. I suggest that Gwibber implement something similar to the Twitter web client, to display the number of new messages and a button to display them. A further enhancement could be to color-code different batches of downloaded messages with different colors. For those who like the current behavior, the new behavior could be optional.
