[Bug 1726233] Re: kubuntu panel freezes on return from lockscreen

2017-11-05 Thread Peter Hewett
A few days ago, I turned off screen locking (in system settings >
desktop behaviour) and the problem hasn't happened since then.

All 6 apps removed from panel, but still have the same symptoms.
Other than those, no widgets were added to the default Kubuntu 17.10 install
(apart from setting 4 virtual desktops).

[Bug 1726233] Re: kubuntu panel freezes on return from lockscreen

2017-10-22 Thread Peter Hewett
This is a fresh install of Kubuntu 17.10 64bit. No widgets added to panel.
6 apps are pinned to the panel (konsole, thunderbird, firefox, dolphin,
chromium, cantata).

When the panel is frozen, the pinned apps still start when I click on
their icon, and the application launcher works ok. Just the task manager
section showing running apps is frozen, and the clock is stopped.

Log out and log in clears the problem (until next time screen locks).
Sometime, the panel works ok after screen lock, sometimes it freezes.

[Bug 1726233] [NEW] kubuntu panel freezes on return from lockscreen

2017-10-22 Thread Peter Hewett
Public bug reported:

By default, Kubuntu automatically locks the screen. Password is needed to
reopen the desktop. Sometimes, the panel at the bottom of the screen is frozen.
Apps perform normally, but starting and stopping apps don't change what is
shown on the panel. The clock on the panel stays frozen at the time the screen
locked.
Application identified by xprop WM_CLASS is plasmashell, but launchpad does not
accept this as a package.

[Bug 1511917] Re: Gramps detected incomplete GTK installation

2016-05-04 Thread Peter Hewett
This problem didn't happen with earlier versions of Kubuntu and Gramps.
I have used Gramps on Kubuntu for many years (about ten years) and I
didn't see this problem before Kubuntu 15.10. So hopefully there is an
elegant way of addressing this issue.

[Bug 1537654] [NEW] ksmserver 100% CPU when select shutdown or logoff

2016-01-25 Thread Peter Hewett
Public bug reported:

This bug only happens when nvidia drivers are used.
Occasionally (but not always) when I click shutdown or log off, the system
doesn't exit, ksmserver goes to 100% CPU and the system becomes unresponsive
(or very very slow to open a new window). This is a fresh install of Kubuntu

The driver manager in system settings offers 3 graphics drivers;
- nvidia 352 (recommended)
- nvidia 352-updates
- x.org nouveau display driver

I have tried with all three drivers (with a reboot between changes) and
the freeze-on-shutdown symptoms occur with each of the nvidia drivers,
but not (so far) with the x.org driver.

I have two machines here running Kubuntu 15.10. One has nvidia graphics
card and it has this problem. The other machine has Intel graphics, and
has not exhibited any symptoms like this.

Yes, this error message comes up with every start of gramps.

I reported the bug because it was a fresh install of Kubuntu and gramps
from the repository (and therefore something that any user would get). I
normally use the current stable version of gramps from Sourceforge, and
have now updated to gramps 4.2.2. The error still comes up at every
start of gramps.

It appears that there must have been some setting on the mail server

2015-07-25 Thread Peter Hewett
Similar problem here.
Running Kubuntu 15.04 64 bit with Thunderbird, accessing POP mail server. It
was working just fine until the update on 21 July to Thunderbird
1:31.8.0+build1-0ubuntu0.15.04.1. Since then it just reports no messages to
get, but there are messages on the server.
From the Mozilla bug
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1184488
it appears this might relate to an upstream Mozilla core security change to
cease support for keys less than 1023 bits.
