This problem still exists in the latest daily release of Gwibber 2.33.0,
under Ubuntu 10.10. None of the workarounds posted here work, I've tried
them all in various combinations multiple times.

I have just found a 'fix' for this problem. In the case of Twitter,
logging out and logging back in cured it, in the case of the image
removing all cookies from Wikipedia prevented the crash. Still at a
complete loss as to why it was crashing in the first place, an issue
with corrupt cookies
