[Bug 164589] Re: Occasional screen-wide blink when using opengl apps (compiz also) and Nvidia cards
I am afraid these issue will never be fixed: I do think the bug is not just software but hardware as well... Nvidia never answered anything on the thread I posted few years back (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=96673), even if everybody with this card was experiencing the same issue... so cool... Btw - I still use the 'powermizer' workaround, but slightly different: [code] PowerMizerEnable=0x1; PerfLevelSrc=0x; PowerMizerDefault=0x3; PowerMizerDefaultAC=0x3; PowerMizerLevel=0x3 [/code] (in xorg.conf and /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia.conf) To force the system in low consumption/slowest speed possible to avoid blink [link to speed change] and to keep the GPU cool - original GPU went foobar, the dell I am using 'seems' to have some design issues concerning the heat dissipation of the GPU... few people had their 7900 going dead due to heat...). Btw, for some reasons, v185 don't seems to honor it correctly, nvidia- setting still shows speed changes... so I stick to 173.14.20... Last NVIDIA for sure... will stick with card with open drivers... -- Occasional screen-wide blink when using opengl apps (compiz also) and Nvidia cards https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164589 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 444449] Re: Firefox slow google reader
Ok - I did some tests: * Using nv driver: CPU problem does not occurs, to bad it's non-bling-bling. * Using nvidia proprio driver: Problem does occurs.. (I am using 173.14.20 to get correct powermizer behavior aka force-underclocking) Some notes: * Xorg eats a full core (99%) - sysprof gives nothing except '???' * Moving firefox window (when open on reader) gives CPU xorg spikes (WTF? with compiz on ?) So, playing around, I found out that the following command (obviously only applicable with nvidia...) $ nvidia-settings -a InitialPixmapPlacement=1 fixes the CPU usage for reader - added to gnome-session and I can enjoy my FF again... Hope this helps... -- Firefox slow google reader https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/49 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 444449] Re: Firefox slow google reader
I don't think you can compare the 'slowness' of ff+reader under XP vs the cpu hogging under 9.10... Btw - ffox 3.5.4 was usable under 9.04 with reader... only under 9.10 it's started to CPU hog (not ff actually, Xorg) - I guess something is 'broken' or 'pretty sub optimal' there... -- Firefox slow google reader https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/49 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

magic keys don't seems to allows the reboot - so I made a picture of the console: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/64259/DSC_0402.JPG (didn't attach since it's around 3mb to not clutter launchpad...)
