Here the same thing for the second time on the same machine;

@Stephen: you were right. Additional problems led me to do another
reinstall, which did not boot because of a bad sector in the vmlinuz. So
I think I need to buy a new harddisk.

I get the 'unexpected end of file or stream' on various packages when
trying to update. On a freshly installed OS.

The reboot after yesterday's kernel update seems to have fixed my
problem (load is now below 1). I am glad about that; trying unreleased
kernel patches on a machine I need for work is a bit scary.

I am willing to test the patch mentioned in post #80, but I have no idea
how to install it (without risking to break everything because of doing
something wrong). My load on idle is aroud 15 (4 cores).

This problem may be (partly) related to connecting an iphone or ipod to
the computer. I just ran into it on Oneiric after having my ipod
connected and searching the web led me to this bug and several sites
mentioning this problem in relation to an iphone.
Also this may be a duplicate of #876279
The bug is still there in oneiric. January (comment 26) is 2 months ago;
when will this get patched in the distributions?

I have rebooted now, but I can still trigger the error message by
reinstalling gconf-editor as in Jeremy's example and doing anything in
evolution (for example opening a message) after that.
I let you decide if it is necessary to change the tags.

Nope, I did not reboot (I try to do that as little as possible). I am
willing to give that a try, but we will have to wait till the next
evolution or gconf related update to know if it works.

I still get the error after updating to gconf 3.2.3-0ubuntu0.1. It
happens only the first time I do something in evolution after installing
updates (i.e. once a day for me).
