Fresh install with proprietary driver’s installation check box ticked worked fine till I rebooted again and then I could not get into the desktop. All drivers installed fine but one reboot later things were back to being unable to login. So I did a chroot and removed splash from grub command line

Update :- Downgrading to Kernel 3.19.8-031908-generic solves the problem for me. Not sure what is wrong. Any of the 4.X Series Kernels won't work for me. I am on a Lenovo Z50 Laptop. Now with Kernel 3.19.8-031908-generic my system is working great. No error whatsoever. Hope this helps. --
