[Bug 1762846] [NEW] OpenCL disabled on nvidia

2018-04-10 Thread Ric Flomag
Public bug reported:

OpenCL is not enabled by default.

Steps to reproduce :
 * install the nvidia driver
 * install darktable
 * run darktable on command line : $darktable -d opencl

=>
[opencl_init] could not find opencl runtime library 'libOpenCL'
0.159268 [opencl_init] could not find opencl runtime library 'libOpenCL.so'
0.159327 [opencl_init] could not find opencl runtime library 'libOpenCL.so.1'
0.159333 [opencl_init] no working opencl library found. Continue with opencl
disabled
0.159336 [opencl_init] FINALLY: opencl is NOT AVAILABLE on this system.

Workaround : install package nvidia-opencl-dev

Should darktable depend on nvidia-opencl-dev ?

[Bug 862662] Re: No startup notification when launching applications

2015-01-04 Thread Ric Flomag
A partial workaround : install package lightdm-gtk-greeter. This will
enable startup notifications (spining cursor) for GTK+ apps launched
from the dash or opening an associated file. But Qt apps will still lack
a startup notification.

[Bug 998944] [NEW] Grub install fails on installing lubuntu on external USB HD

2012-05-13 Thread Ric Flomag
Public bug reported:

Circumstances:

* Installing Lubuntu on an external USB HD, using a Lubuntu live USB, 64bits.
* Before i started, I had removed the internal HD from the computer, as a
safety measure.
* At the beginning of the install procedure, I choose the manual partition set
up option, and i don't modify the current partition scheme (one root partition
+ swap), without formatting the root partition, but overwriting a previous
ubuntu 12.04 (I want to keep my user folder).
* without internet connection to speed up the process and install updates and
language files after.

[Bug 862662] Re: no startup notification when opening files

2011-09-30 Thread Ric Flomag
Sebastien,

Thank you for the triaging. I wished this bug had a higher importance
though. It might be a detail on fast computers, but on lower end or
aging ones, it is really a pain, specially for newcomers.

[Bug 862662] [NEW] No busy cursor when opening files

2011-09-29 Thread Ric Flomag
Public bug reported:

Always reproducible.

Steps to reproduce:
 * open nautilus
 * double-click a jpg file or any other type

observed: the associated application starts, but the user does not know until
its window eventually opens
expected: a busy cursor is displays until the application starts

This is a regression, though in previous versions of ubuntu, only gtk+
applications behave as expected, other (libreoffice, qt apps) don't (bug
#798304).

[Bug 860837] [NEW] Active window half looses focus when another one is sent to the front automatically

2011-09-27 Thread Ric Flomag
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
 * You need to use some app that gets automatically sent to the front at some
moment, like Update Manager or Synaptic. Start updating or installing packages.
 * While Update Manager is downloading, use another app, say Firefox.
 - At some point, Update Manager gets automatically sent to the front (while
updating the cache or starting to install).

Observed behaviour:
 * The unfocused Update Manager window is in front of Firefox (the global menu
still shows the menu of Firefox)
 * Clicking on the Firefox window (if visible) or on the Firefox icon in the
launcher (if Update Manager or Synaptic is fullscreen) does NOT bring it back
to the front.
 * You have to focus the Update Manager window, then click on the Firefox one
to put it to the front.

Expected behaviour :
* if a window is sent to the front, it should get the focus.
* or... if an active window is behind another (non-sticky) window, any action
on it (and a click on its launcher icon) should bring it to the front
* a solution for Bug #748840 might fix this bug too.

[Bug 815929] [NEW] Nothing happens on click over cover art and song information

2011-07-25 Thread Ric Flomag
Public bug reported:

In the sound menu, when a song is been played, the cover art and song
information area gets highlighted on mouseover. This makes most users
think some action would be triggered on click, like bring the music
player to the front. But nothing happens.

Steps to reproduce:
* open banshee and play a song
* minimise banshee window, or put some other window on top of it
* go to the sound menu, see how the cover art and song information area gets
highlighted on overing it (screenshot attached)
* click on this area

Observed: nothing
Suggestion 1: highlight the music player name, the cover art and song
information together on mouse-over, then bring the music player to the front on
click.
Suggestion 2: keep the same highlight pattern (separate for music player name /
song information) - bring the music player to the front when cover art and song
information is clicked.

An ideal papercut ?

[Bug 798304] [NEW] No busy cursor when opening a file with a non-GTK app

2011-06-16 Thread Ric Flomag
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

A similar bug was filed 2 years ago for Openoffice (Bug #411035). I'm
filing this new report as it seems to me that it does not affect
openoffice or libreoffice in particular, but all non-GTK apps. Please
feel free to mark this as duplicate and change the affected package in
bug #411035 if needed.

This bug could be a good papercut for the oneiric cycle, as it affects a
lot of people, has a rather important effect on the default desktop
experience and should be quite easy to fix (though i have no idea on how
to do that).

Opening a file from nautilus or from the unity file lens with a non-GTK
application does not display a busy cursor while the application is starting.
This behavior raises two problems:
 * The desktop experience is inconsistent, as GTK and non-GTK apps do not
behave the same way.
 * Most importantly, on slow (i.e. netbooks) and middle-range computer, the
application may take several seconds to start, without any feedback to the
user. Most of the time, i have experienced that the user believes that the
computer is not doing anything. He/she double-clicks again (and again). Then
the file opens twice or more times. Frustrating.

Applications that I have tested: Libreoffice, VLC, Scribus, Audacity.

Steps to reproduce:
 * Open a libreoffice file from nautilus or the Unity file lens.
 * or... open any other file with a non-GTK app (VLC / .avi, Scribus / .sla,
Audacity / .mp3 etc.)

Observed : nothing, until the application starts
Expected: a busy mouse cursor is displayed until the application starts

[Bug 772045] [NEW] Natty regression : built-in mic does not record

2011-04-27 Thread Ric Flomag
Public bug reported:

The build-in microphone of my Acer Aspire 4520 laptop does not record
under Natty, though the usual white noise is still audible. I cannot
test the on-line input as i haven't got any external mic.

Note that i have double checked all audio levels and input settings ;)

[Bug 746528] [NEW] library scan goes mad because of recursive links

2011-03-31 Thread Ric Flomag
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: banshee

Steps to reproduce:
 * create simple recursive link to your music folder (ln -s ~/Music
~/Music/my-recursive-link)
 * start banshee (or Tools - rescan music collection)

Result : Banshee scans each track about 20 times
Expected : Banshee detects recursive links and scans each track only once

In the real life, this happened to me after having linked two music
collections with each other from two different hard drives.

[Bug 746628] [NEW] Light themes should disable the gtk3 backported resize grip

2011-03-31 Thread Ric Flomag
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: light-themes

Rationale:
 * Ambiance and Radiance theme now have a 5px invisible resize grip all around
windows, which makes the backported corner resize grip unnecessary.
 * The backported resize grip overlaps any element located at the right bottom
corner of the window, like scrollbar buttons, other buttons, text, and so on...
This affects the functionality and appearance of many applications. To name a
few, Banshee, Firefox, Thunderbird, Software center... Other applications have
been patched recently (Synaptic, the Appearance preferences...).
 * The effort to patch the applications one by one (as apparently planned at
https://launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/+milestone/nt9-grippy) will probably not
solve the problem entirely (ie. for all applications).

Suggested solution:
 * Disable the corner grip in light themes.
 * Enable the invisible 5px grip for all themes and remove completely the gtk3
backport would be ideal.

** Affects: light-themes (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

@Martin: Indeed, xorg.conf is not necessary, i've just removed it and
Xorg started using the nvidia driver. The only difference i've noticed
is that the nvidia logo shows up for an instant when X starts, because
the option NoLogo defaults to false.

This bug is similar to bug #604122 (interrupt 0x0008 instead of
0x0003), but it does not seem to be the same, as the patch provided
by Andy Whitcroft does not work for me, tough the bug reporter Jean-
Louis Dupond states it fixes it for him (comment #4).

I am about to test the mainline kernel and, lucid's kernel too, if it
works on Natty, so to check it is a regression...

[Bug 604122] Re: mmc0: Got command interrupt 0x00030000 even though no command operation was in progress.

2011-01-24 Thread Ric Flomag
My wrong: natty's kernel randomly hangs on boot on my hardware, whether patched
or not.
But: the patched kernel does solve this bug for me. Still getting the dmesg
error, though the interrupt is 0x0008 instead of 0x0003. Should I file
another bug report ?

2011-01-20 Thread Ric Flomag
@Andy: i've installed natty (went fine) and tried your patched kernel: it hangs
on boot on my Acer 4520, as it does with Maverick.
So the patch does produce regression, at least on my hardware.

[Bug 675161] [NEW] VLC SIGABRT 0x038f6a67 in ff_find_unused_picture (s=0x8687600, shared=0) at /build/buildd/ffmpeg-extra-0.6/libavcodec/mpegvideo.c:881

2010-11-14 Thread Ric Flomag
Public bug reported:

VLC aborts on playing a traffic rules training course DVD (40 chapters
in a title = 40 questions), when changing from a chapter to the
following one, ie a question to another (without human interaction). It
does not happen on every change. It generally goes well on to question
10 and would crash at question 11.

Attaching GDB backtrace with debug symbols information.

(sidenote: Totem is not able to correctly navigate through the DVD and
hangs.)
