[Bug 72531] Re: Merge editor horizontal scrollbar not working
The kdiff3 horizontal scrollbar is failing on Ubuntu 20.04. When the user moves the horizontal scrollbar the two panes are not refreshed with the new currently out of screen contents (only the existing contents are shown and scrolled through). What should be the new contents is shown as white space. After moving the horizontal scrollbar the user can click inside a pane for the contents to refresh (on both panes), but this workaround is both awkward and temperamental. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/72531 Title: Merge editor horizontal scrollbar not working To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kdiff3/+bug/72531/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1488842] [NEW] Can't copy and paste more than 4kB into a terminal
Public bug reported: I am unable to copy and paste more than 4kB of script into a terminal (e.g. gnome-terminal, xterm). I have been encountering this issue for nearly a decade now (across multiple distributions, including Ubuntu 14.04 LTS). I believe it may relate to kernel parameter N_TTY_BUF_SIZE. A similar problem appears to have been reported here; http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.kernel/1253720. Use case; 1. The user has a large semi-automated script (e.g. 2000 line deployment instructions.txt; which do not justify full automation*). 2. The user wishes to copy and paste one or more automated sections of the script into a terminal (e.g. gnome-terminal, xterm, etc) while following the self-contained instructions. 3. Those automated sections of the script may contain more than 4kB worth of data (spread across multiple lines) Actual behaviour; - the script being pasted into the terminal is corrupted, then executed Expected Behaviour; - the script is successfully pasted into the terminal, then executed I have reported this issue because it is not intuitive that the system should behave like this. While now that I know it may be a fundamental limitation of current (/prior) Linux kernels, I will ensure to work around it in future activity. However, it is feasible that someone else may encounter this issue before it is rectified. Every time this issue occurs there is a possibility of system corruption (depending on the precise script being copied to the terminal). Perhaps a patch has already been released? Or if this issue should be reported elsewhere, feel free to recommend an alternative forum. * e.g. because the self-contained instructions only need to be executed ~10 times across the product life cycle, taking into account the fact automation time is a function of a) how busy the user is / spare time they can devote to subsystems, and b) the level of robustness required: automatically editing files which may have been significantly updated between deployments is not necessarily safe. [Bug 1302336] [NEW] overlay-scrollbar UI failure - can't move cursor to edge of screen, and then vertically to select orange scroll thumb
Public bug reported: I am experiencing an Ubuntu overlay-scrollbar user interface failure. The cursor can't be moved to the edge of the screen, and then vertically to select the orange scroll thumb. Assuming the window is maximised, the standard sequence for selecting a scroll thumb (to perform a full document scroll operation) is; 1. move the mouse cursor to the right hand edge of screen 2. move the mouse cursor vertically towards the scroll thumb This can't be done in Ubuntu. Moving the cursor diagonally is awkward and inefficient. Nobody selects an edge of screen object in this fashion. This is a fundamental UI design principle. [Bug 869793] Re: Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files
Nautilus has been slow for 13 years. If Linux file browser speed can't improve with Moore's law then it is time to drop the fancy mime based "open every file and read its header" feature in my opinion. People should not be waiting 500ms for their file browser to display 10 files in 2014, all for the sake of random text files that don't have an extension and should probably be opened with a text editor anyway. In my opinion the Nautilus UI has degraded over time, and has never met the usability standards introduced by windows explorer 95/98 (not that Windows has kept them). It seems like the trend in application/OS user interface development has gone towards zero-customisability; attempting to make one UI fit the needs of both first time and power user, an impossible task. Here are some general suggestions to improve Nautilus efficiency; - instantaneous folder browsing (options to disable mime extension reading and any other header operations which make Nautilus slow) - the ability to add/remove standard interface buttons (eg "up folder", "home folder") - the ability to select a real location bar (not a bubble bar) - the ability to remove all clutter left and right of the address bar (these should be located in the View menu) - the ability to position the address bar on its own row (the user needs to be able to see the full path at all times, even when operating with multiple unmaximised file manager windows) - the ability to show the full path in the title bar (such that Nautilus windows containing a folder of the same name can be distinguished in the window manager taskbar) - the ability to open a new Window (Ctrl-N) at the same location - the ability to disable the sidebar without using dconf-editor - the ability to add keyboard shortcuts for missing functions (eg Ctrl-G for go button operations; note in order to press Enter after a paste operation the user must move their right hand off the mouse) - the ability to add keyboard shortcuts for existing functions, without modifying .config/nautilus/accels (eg "BackSpace" for ShellActions/Up) - the ability to view full dates/times - the ability to select an arbitrary application to open a txt file with - the ability to create a new document (without modifying Templates) - the ability to navigate the UI using the keyboard (given there is no longer a menu bar) - the ability to stop the search bar from popping up every time the user presses a character on the keyboard - the ability to close the search bar using the mouse (without knowing that you have to press Ctrl-f) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/869793 Title: Nautilus is very slow when opening folders with many files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nautilus/+bug/869793/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 549696] Re: missing textures for planets
Celestia is broken without these basic textures. The Ubuntu user must be notified of that they are receiving an incomplete software program (the fact they are not installing Celestia but an incomplete version thereof). The user should not made to spend 30 minutes+ trawling through the internet to find out why it is missing things. And that is assuming they know what search strings to try typing into google to find the problem. NB they would have already spent at least 30 minutes finding out that it is missing various things, and if they are new to the program they may not even realise that things are missing. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/549696 Title: missing textures for planets To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/celestia/+bug/549696/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
