Are we sure that this is a duplicate of bug 430996?
1. The reported error messages in the two bugs are different.
2. That bug was supposedly fixed in 0.2.10.
3. This bug still exists as of 0.2.34.

I honestly don't know what the problem was. If in the immediate
aftermath of the Karmic upgrade, my computer once cold-booted when it
was supposed to resume from suspend, I didn't notice it. Sorry.

I can confirm this bug.. in fact, I'm two-for-two on the Ubuntu systems
I have. Maybe relevant: I use software RAID-1 for the root filesystems
of both systems. The initrd.img was properly created; the menu.lst was
just missing the initrd line. BUT: the menu.lst entries for the old
2.6.22
