[Bug 1332204] [NEW] Incorrect domain listed in splash screen

2014-06-19 Thread Robertjm
Public bug reported:

When chosing the About Fontmatrix screen it points to a no longer active
domain.

Says: fontmatrix.net
Should be: fontmatix.be

FWIW this package isn't actively in development right now according to
their website, so perhaps the .net was an active domain at one time.
However, it's for sale when you look at it today. The .be domain is
still active.

Please note this is ALSO incorrectly listed when you bring up the Ubuntu
Software Center.

Hope this isn't out of line. But, another workaround is to install
Splashtop personal. They have a linux version in beta (including
builds for Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10, in both 32bit and 64bit versions.

[Bug 831305] Re: [Upstream] Numbering mis-indents in LibreOffice Writer

2013-07-27 Thread Robertjm
Using LibreOffice Version 4.0.4.2 and the problem is still present.

I realize this is a simple fix (i.e.: workaround) but why not simply
change the Numbering Followed By setting from Tab-Stop to Nothing
as the default?

An alternative would be to set the default font to a monospaced font,
though that's a bit more draconian to fix this one issue.

[Bug 587986] [NEW] Power Management not responding if CD/DVD in drive when starting up (Lucid)

2010-05-31 Thread Robertjm
Public bug reported:

(launchpad isn't letting me select the package so I chose I don't know
- Package is Power Management).

If you have a CD/DVD in the drive at the time you turn your computer on,
you will get an error about Power Management not responding when you
first try and log in. You can cancel the problem and Gnome will log in
after a pause of several seconds.

When CD was removed from computer prior to shutting it down the error
did NOT occur the next time I turned to computer on. Inserted the CD and
then powered off.

Upon starting the computer again I got the error once more.
Unfortunately, it's before I'm fully logged in so cannot get screen shot
of the pop up.

[Bug 490655] Re: Cannot import .AIFF files without distortion

Are you using the pre-built .deb from the repos, or another source?
Also, did you use the .aiff I attached so I can rule out that being
something odd on my system?

[Bug 490655] Re: Cannot import .AIFF files without distortion

2009-12-05 Thread Robertjm
While I don't have mplayer installed my file worked OK with Amarok,
Rhythmbox, Xine, Totem and VLC.

After trying those apps out I then did a complete uninstall of the
current version of Audacity on my computer. Then powered down. After a
few minutes I came back and did a complete reinstall of the application,
including the one in the archives that says audacity-dbg. Same
distortion problems. This is maddening!!

Have never used the .dbg mode. Would it show anything that might help
figuring out what is going on here? If so, how do I envoke dbg mode in
Audacity?

Am heading out of the house right now so will check mail later this
evening.

[Bug 231507] Re: Xine-UI defaults to sound volume to 0% in Hardy

2009-12-01 Thread Robertjm
Going over past bugs reported.

I have not upgraded to Karmic Koala. As installed, the problem still existed.
When I checked my .xine/config file I found:

# audio driver to use
# { auto null pulseaudio alsa oss esd file none }, default: 0
# audio.driver:auto

# device used for pulseaudio
# string, default:
# audio.pulseaudio_device:
---

Changed to:

---
# audio driver to use
# { auto null pulseaudio alsa oss esd file none }, default: 0
audio.driver:pulseaudio

# device used for pulseaudio
# string, default:
audio.pulseaudio_device: pulseaudio
---

Before restarting xine I cranked my default volume to full. After
starting my opening volume is now full in Xine so changing the settings
per return13 fixed the problem.

[Bug 490655] [NEW] Cannot import .AIFF files without distortion

2009-11-30 Thread Robertjm
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: audacity

Audacity 1.3.9 on Ubuntu Karmic Koala (v9.10)
(installation .deb pkg from repositories: audacity-1.3.9-6.deb from 10/26)

Steps to create bug:
1 Open Audacity
2 Select Generate
3 Select DTMF tones
4 Set Amplitude to 0.6 duration: 000.020 seconds default tone/silence ratio
5 Click OK to generate dtmf
Tone that's generated sounds crisp with no distortion.
6 Select File
7 Click OK on Meta Data screen
8 Select EXPORT (as AIFF) and saved as dtmf.aiff
9 Closed Audacity without saving project
10 Opened Audacity
11 Select IMPORT and choose dtmf.aiff
When the file is imported its completely distorted with track full of noise.

I took the same aiff file created by Audacity on linux and copied it to my
Powerbook via a thumbdrive.
On the Powerbook G4 w/OSX 10.5.8 it imports and sounds fine without any
distortion.

Hi David,

I am still running Intrepid as my main installation so installed Jaunty
Beta 1 in Virtualbox. Unfortunately, the problem seems to still be
there, at least in the sandboxed environment.

Will try to upgrade my normal installation of Audacity this weekend to
see if the problem is still there in a non-sandboxed O.S.

[Bug 179510] Re: Cannot play DVD through xine-backed players in Hardy

2008-09-26 Thread Robertjm
Changed device used for DVD playback and raw device setup for DVD
access from /dev/scd0 to /dev/dvd (media tab)

Also changed directory a media in DVD drive will be mounted (gui tab).
I honestly don't remember seeing this setting last year so perhaps its
something added since then?

After making changes closed xine and restarted it. Clicked on DVD button
on xine-gui and DVD plays.

Perhaps its wasn't intentional but you used the word upgrade in your
previous comment. I don't upgrade my system. I have separate partitions
on my system so when I move up/down to a new version of Ubuntu I also
reformat all my partitions, but /home, /home/photos and /home/parallels
and do a fresh install, so I'm not going from version X to version Y.
When I referred to updating I was talking about applying all the daily
patches to programs issued during the alpha stages.

As I read my original bug report it looks like the DVD drive in the
system used to be labeled /dev/cdrom0. I'm wondering if they referred to
the CD/DVD device in Gutsy as /dev/cdrom0, but then in Hardy Alpha1
moved on to calling it /dev/dvd, and xine didn't detect that, or there
wasn't a symlink added at that point on the Alpha, which caused the
problem at that point.

Good night/morning. Its 2:15a and I've got to go to sleep.

[Bug 179510] Re: Cannot play DVD through xine-backed players in Hardy

2008-09-25 Thread Robertjm
Hi Reinhard,

Quick note. The link you gave us in launchpad is busted. Its coming up
Page Not Found.

But to answer your question, I'm not sure we are talking the same bug.
In my circumstance it was an all or nothing proposition. NO DVDs played
until I changed the settings in xine to /dev/scd0.

Since reporting that bug I've moved on to Intrepid Ibex, and my setting
is /dev/scd0. I honestly, can't remember if I made the change manually,
or whether it detected it out the door as this was a fresh install a few
months ago.

I would suggest Oscar make sure that HIS dvd is actually /dev/scd0 and
not some other device. If it were the latter it certainly would keep
giving him that error.

[Bug 258858] Re: firefox 3 crashes in ubuntu 8.04

I didn't personally use this site.

However, when I upgraded to the 3.0.2+build3+nobinonly-0ubuntu2
package that was pushed out in one of the recent Intrepid Ibex updates
that seems to have fixed the problem I was having trying to view Verizon
Wireless' site.

[Bug 250524] Re: [Intrepid] Synaptic should depend on apt-xapian-index

2008-08-13 Thread Robertjm
After installing apt-xapian-index on Intrepid system, and restarting of
Synaptic, I get rebuilding index. After a few minutes it pops back to
Quick Search and I have the expected functionality.

If this is to be an option, it would make more sense to me to have the
dialog box invisible, rather than simply grayed out. I'd rather expect
it to be installed by default if at all possible with Ubuntu.

[Bug 103173] Re: [totem-xine] DVD will not play

2008-07-26 Thread Robertjm
Same problems were encountered on a fresh install of Intrepid Ibex Alpha
2. However, after changing the media settings in the xine-ui to
/dev/scd0 it is loading DVD media just fine. And the buffering problem
seems to have been resolved as well.

Seems like xine is not detecting the actual device, and only adding a
generic location.

[Bug 179510] Re: Cannot play DVD through xine-backed players in Hardy

2008-07-26 Thread Robertjm
Workaround:

In xine, change the device used for DVD playback and raw device setup
for DVD access from /dev/dvd to /dev/scd0.

This allowed DVD playback and eliminated the error msg I was receiving
through xine. (I have GStreamer version of Totem installed, or I'd test
it there.)

[Bug 163560] Re: audigy2 platinum - livedrive - gutsyhardy - frontpanel microphone line 2 is missing

2008-07-26 Thread Robertjm
I can happily report I have front panel access using Intrepid Ibex Alpha
2!!

Headphones work, though they don't mute main speakers when a headphone
is plugged in.

Microphone works as Line LiveDrive (not microphone)

Auxiliary inputs on LiveDrive are labeled Line2 LiveDrive

There is IEC958 controllers, which are presumably for the SPDIF
connectors, but I have no devices to test connectivity with.

Don't see anything specifically labeled for the Midi input.

[Bug 252227] [NEW] Cannot select input devices in Audacity's Mixer Toolbar

2008-07-26 Thread Robertjm
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: audacity

When using the Mixer Toolbar in Audacity 1.3.5-2 (beta) you should have
three items: Output Volume, Input Volume and Input Selector is missing.

There was a bug reported previously (101131) in Kubuntu 7.04 that was
the exact same problem. It was apparently fixed when Ubuntu went to
v1.3.2. However, the problem is appearing with Intrepid Ibex Alpha 2 and
the Audacity build included.

One of the suggestions on the Audacity wiki is to make sure you don't
have too many inputs specified in the Audio I/O preferences. No matter
whether mine is set to 1 or 9, the input selector does not appear.

Using a Soundblaster 5.1 w/LiveDrive and Alsa.

CURRENT WORKAROUND: Bring up Alsa-Mixer and turn on and off the input
channels I want, or don't want. Set Audio I/O preference to a large
number of channels, say 9 (the specs indicate my device will allow 16!!)
and it will record input from all the devices hooked up.

In the for what its worth catagory my build of Audacity on a Powerbook
G4, using OSX is version 1.35-d and the selector is there just fine. (Is
v1.35-d the equivilent of what would be 1.3.5-4 in the Linux World??? I
couldn't find any new nightlies to use.)

[Bug 251374] [NEW] Computer does not power off when choosing Shut Down from Shut Down panel button

2008-07-23 Thread Robertjm
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome

Un Intrepid Ibex, when you click on the Shut Down button on the Gnome
Panel you are offered four options, Hibernate, Restart, Cancel and Shut
Down. If you click on Shut Down the GUI should log out and then then the
computer should power down.

However, when you click on it, it simply logs out of the GDM and lands
you on the Gnome log-in window.

Occurs everytime.

It hasn't been an issue for some time, and I thought I had reported this

As I recall the issue manifested with Feisty. I had loaded the non-free
codecs from Medibuntu but still could not view DVDs. The first
recommendation was to load totem-xine instead of the gstreamer-based, which I
did, but still to no avail.
I had to load libdvdnav and one other library I can't remember right at the
moment (I'm at work, not in front of my Linux box - sorry again!)
Nonetheless once I got the proper libraries loaded I had full functionality
 including menu navigation.

After doing a distro upgrade to Gutsy, DVDs continued to play normally.

I don't have a box loaded with Hardy yet, but have a spare notebook I
can load the latest alpha on. Right now I'm rather busy, but will be
happy to do a clean install of Hardy and report on my results. Would
that be helpful? I'm happy to do so if it will help the community.

[Bug 179510] Cannot play DVD through xine-backed players in Hardy

2007-12-31 Thread Robertjm
Public bug reported:

Cannot seem to run any DVD when using a xine-backed player in Hardy
Heron. Originally installed Alpha1, however, have installed all updates
as they have been released.

Was able to run under Gutsy Gibbon final version just fine.

Steps to reproduce:
1 - Insert DVD in drive
2 - Choose Applications/Accessories/Terminal
3 - Run xine
4 - Hit g and xine control panel launches
5 - Click on DVD option

Receive errors:

-xine engine error-
There is no input plugin available to handle 'dvd:/.
Maybe MRL syntax is wrong or file/stream source doesn't exist.

When clicking on More button I get additional error messages:

The source can't be read.
Maybe you don't have enough rights for this, or source doesn't
contain data (e.g: no disk in drive). (/dev/cdrom0)

Additonally, a window pops up with three tabs (messages, plugin and
trace)

Trace has nothing exciting, just two line referring to 2D_Tex and nothing that
looks like an error.
Plugin refers to a whole bunch of plugins being found, but no references to
plugs not found

The messages screen has seven entries. The third one says:
xine: cannot find input plugin for MRL [DVD:/]
followed by:
xine: input plugin cannot open MRL [DVD:/]

What's interesting is that if I use Nautilus to explore the DVD, and go
to the video folder I can right click on any of the video files and view
them through xine just fine.

xine related packages already installed:

If I try and use mplayer instead of xine I get an error msg:

If using gxine, I get errors about not being able to handle DVDs. If I go into
configuration it says no device for DVD playback. After configuring that to the
