[Bug 1966087] [NEW] Lacking symlinks prevent config scripts from running

2022-03-23 Thread Roland Giesler
Public bug reported:

I have installed roundcube and roundcube-psql on Ubuntu 20.04 from the
packages. At the top of /etc/apache2/conf-available/roundcube.conf
there is a single alias which I have uncommented.

# Uncomment them to use it or adapt them to your configuration
Alias /roundcube /var/lib/roundcube

After reloading Apache, the login screen works in a browser when I load
http://ipaddress/roundcube, but the
/usr/share/roundcube/installer/config.php file cannot be found by
http://ipaddress/roundcube/installer/config.php.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Roundcube says there should be two
alias lines to uncomment, but in the latest source code of Roundcube
there's only one alias.

Roundcube is installed into /usr/share/roundcube, but there are symlinks
in /var/lib/roundcube as below:

lrwxrwxrwx 1 www-data www-data   14 Feb 24  2020 config -> /etc/roundcube
lrwxrwxrwx 1 www-data www-data   30 Feb 24  2020 index.php ->
/usr/share/roundcube/index.php
lrwxrwxrwx 1 www-data www-data   19 Feb 24  2020 logs -> ../../log/roundcube
drwxr-xr-x 2 www-data www-data 4096 Mar 21 17:16 plugins
lrwxrwxrwx 1 www-data www-data   28 Feb 24  2020 program ->
/usr/share/roundcube/program
drwxr-xr-x 2 www-data www-data 4096 Mar 21 17:16 skins
drwxr-x--- 2 www-data www-data 4096 Feb 24 2020 temp

There's index.php linking to /usr/share/roundcube/index.php, but not to
the setup scripts. So I added the following symlink:

installer -> /usr/share/roundcube/installer

This allows the installer to run, but on the "create config" step,
nothing is generated, so clearly there are more missing links ;-)

This seems like a bug in the package to me.

[Bug 1733890] Re: Copy to clipboard not working

2018-08-30 Thread Roland Giesler
I have the exact same problem. It was working before, but some recent
update must have broken something. Running Xorg, not wayland on 18.04.
Screenshot goes through the motions, but nothing ends up in the
clipboard buffer to paste.

[Bug 1292398] Re: Second screen position isn't saved from one session to another

2018-04-11 Thread Roland Giesler
I have this problem with Ubuntu 17.10.

Unity (17.04) didn't have this problem.

Asus Zenbook Flip: I work primarily in 2 locations. I have large
monitors at each location. When I'm at home, my notebook is positioned
to the left of the monitor. I have configuration set for that.

When I get to the client site, the notebook is on the right of the
monitor and the monitor is bigger than the one at home. After having my
home settings active, gnome does not remember my client setup and vice
versa.

I expect the configuration to be restored the moment I connect a
previously set up external monitor, the way it was working on Unity.

[Bug 846407] Re: xrdp is not able to transmitt unity desktop correct - different clients

2014-10-19 Thread Roland Giesler
I think we should make a new concerted effort to get this addressed:

1. It doesn't seem any client can remotely connection to Unity-3D. That
includes X2Go, xrdp, nxclient and possibly others.
2. This is a core component of LTSP for instance, which cannot run Unity-3D
either

The least we should be able to get from the Ubuntu Devs is a roadmap or
plan. If they don't want to fix it, they should tell us why.

[Bug 756317] Re: Captive portals may corrupt apt translation indices

2014-07-25 Thread Roland Giesler
I open a possible duplicate bug #1343205, and it was marked as a
duplicate by Monsta, but...

The symptoms of this in my case are different.

1. It's always the same file that is corrupted.
/var/lib/apt/lists/za.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_trusty-updates_main_i18n_Translation-en
2. This happens on multiple machines running 14.04 and earlier on different
internet connections.
3. I have actually run tests and the link does not drop to cause this, it
happens while the internet connection is stable.

Is this the same issue or not?

[Bug 1343205] Re: apt fails to get update for language files

2014-07-23 Thread Roland Giesler
Today this happened again. The network was not down, the update
procress just trashed this file /var/lib/apt/lists/za.archive.ubuntu
.com_ubuntu_dists_trusty-updates_main_i18n_Translation-en.

$ ls -la
/var/lib/apt/lists/za.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_trusty-updates_main_i18n_Translation-en
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 139409 Jul 22 20:39
/var/lib/apt/lists/za.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_trusty-updates_main_i18n_Translation-en

/var/lib/apt/lists/za.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_trusty-updates_main_i18n_Translation-en

Note: This also happens on another machine runing 14.04 in exactly the
same way.

So since this is happening on more than one machine and repeatedly, I'm
updating this to confirmed

[Bug 1343205] [NEW] apt fails to get update for language files

2014-07-17 Thread Roland Giesler
Public bug reported:

My system: Ubuntu 14:04

$ uname -a
kernel: Linux roland-nb 3.13.0-30-generic #55-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 4 21:40:53 UTC
2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

$ dpkg -l apt-utils
ii apt-utils 1.0.1ubuntu2.1 amd64

I have repeatedly, over the last two months, been having this problem
when updates are run automatically with update-manager. When I then run
apt-get update, I get this error:

Reading package lists... Error!
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList
/var/lib/apt/lists/za.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_trusty-updates_main_i18n_Translation-en
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.

There is a workaround. Delete the file and rerun the update, but this is
always the same file (i18n_Translation-en) and my machine is connected
to an good internet connection when this happens.

There has been a similar report in previous version that have been
fixed, like bug #1254271 and bug #346386, but this seems a new case,
since it always affect the language file.

[Bug 1334549] Re: update-manager: An unresolvable problem occurred

2014-07-06 Thread Roland Giesler
This problem has repeatedly appeared on my machine (14.04) over the last
few weeks.

When it happens, I delete the file /var/lib/apt/lists/za.archive.ubuntu
.com_ubuntu_dists_trusty-updates_universe_i18n_Translation-en, run
apt-get update and apt-get upgrade and it goes away.

However, a few days later, the same problem occurs.

2014-05-11 Thread Roland Giesler
Public bug reported:

When using Unetbootin to create a bootable flash drive and then using
that flash drive to install a new system, causes the newly installed
Ubuntu 13.10 or 14.04 to crash with a kernel panic.

How to repeat:

* Install unetbooting v 565-3
* Download any Ubuntu 14.04 or 13.01 ISO
* Use Unetbootin to make a bootable flash drive
* Boot a system with the flash drive
* Choose to make a fresh installation on the system
* On completion reboot the system.

The system doesn't start, but gives a kernel panic message.

When the same system is installed from the same flash drive, but the ISO
was copied to the flash drive with Ubuntu Startup Disk Creator, the
resulting system boots fine and the problem does not occur.

** Affects: unetbootin (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1254832] [NEW] Missing options for ltsp-update-image

2013-11-25 Thread Roland Giesler
Public bug reported:

The source for this script shows the following options are recognised,
yet they are not all documented in the man page.

-a, --arch Architecture of this image. Default is arch of the host.
-b, --base Base of ltsp chroot. Default is /opt/ltsp if unspecified.
-d, --tftpbootdir Subdir within tftpdir where ltsp kernels are. Defaults
  to ltsp.
-e, --exclude-dirs Exclude those dirs from the image.
-f, --force Force recalculating ports for all chroots, update of all
kernels, fresh pxelinux.cfg files and restart nbd-server.
  -h, --help This message.
-i, --image-onlyUpdate image only and do not attempt to adjust ports or
  services.
-I, --ipappend Pass IPAPPEND value to bootloader.
-n, --no-comp Do not compress the image.
-o, --options Pass kernel command line options to all config files.
-O, --openbsd-inetd Use old inetd method instead of named NBD exports.
-p, --port Port you wish this nbd image to communicate on. Default
  is 2000.
-s, --skip-imageDo not generate an image, but perform other actions.
-S, --serverSpecify the NBD server IP.
-T, --timeout Add timeout to bootloader.

I'd add them, but don't have editing rights there. Could this be
corrected?

[Bug 1254832] Re: Missing options for ltsp-update-image

2013-11-25 Thread Roland Giesler
It may be old, but the manpage has version for each release. On 12.04
(which is the latest LTS version), the options exist in the source but
not in the manpage. Adding this in will save people losts of time at
least.

Therefor I don't think this should be invalid, at least not for the
12.04 manpage.

[Bug 1070357] Re: ldm does not show sessions and cannot start gnome-fallback session

2013-11-24 Thread Roland Giesler
I installed the ldm from https://launchpad.net/~ltsp-
upstream/+archive/daily, but the problem persists. As a workaround I
have removed Unity, but at some stage I will have to put it back and
continue testing.

[Bug 1233565] [NEW] [Hewlett-Packard HP G61 Notebook PC] hibernate/resume failure

2013-10-01 Thread Roland Giesler
Public bug reported:

This seems to be a case of a privious hibernation attempt still being seen? I
cannot find a disk with the UUID being referenced, but neither can I find where
this old
hibernation information is stored.

There are the two lines in question:

It seems to be that if I can remove this memory, the issue will be
resolved?

[Bug 1227207] Re: [Hewlett-Packard HP G61 Notebook PC] hibernate/resume failure

2013-09-23 Thread Roland Giesler
I upgraded to Ubuntu 13.04, since I had been meaning to do so for some
time already and the problem has gone away.

The kernel version is now

$ uname -r
3.8.0-30-generic

Since the bug doesn't seem to exist in v3.8 anymore, it is safe to tag
kernel-fixed-upstream, not so?

[Bug 990761] Re: acroread 9.5.1 is not installable on Ubuntu Precise amd64 system

2013-05-29 Thread Roland Giesler
When I use landronimirc's patched PPA I get prompted to install a whole
lot of i386 code on my 64bit Ubuntu 12.04

#sudo apt-get install adobereader-enu
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
adobereader-enu:i386 is already the newest version.
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:

Then
#apt-get -f install

The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libatk1.0-0:i386 libcairo2:i386 libdatrie1:i386 libgdk-pixbuf2.0-0:i386
libgtk2.0-0:i386 libjasper1:i386 libpango1.0-0:i386 libpixman-1-0:i386
  libthai0:i386 libxcb-render0:i386 libxcb-shm0:i386 libxcomposite1:i386
libxcursor1:i386 libxdamage1:i386 libxfixes3:i386 libxft2:i386
  libxinerama1:i386 libxrandr2:i386

What is the effect of this and won't it mess things up on my machine

[Bug 1184698] [NEW] Menu operations cause LibreOffice to crash

2013-05-27 Thread Roland Giesler
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.10 32bit
LibreOffice 1:4.0.3-0ubuntu1~quantal1

What I expected to happen:

When clicking any menu, the contents thereof should be displayed with
the ability to subsequently click of the menu items displayed. For
example: Clicking File should open the file menu on which one can
click Open.

What happened instead:

The menu shape is drawn with not visible content except for the
triangular indicators on menu items that branch into sub-menus. The
LibreOffice window is then made inactive, that is dulled as if a dialog
box is supposed to appear, but then the application crashes. This is in
both Writer Calc. I have not checked the other programs in the suite.

Further information:

In /var/log/syslog the following information is recorded:

May 27 17:33:24 Matt-HP kernel: [264472.683928] soffice.bin[16068]:

[Bug 641300] Re: Text Entry Boxes in Firefox sometimes get stuck in an endless Select-All making typing in them impossible

2011-03-18 Thread Roland Giesler
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 583122 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/583122

Here's what I found:

The problem seems to be interference / competition between firefox's
auto-complete (or it could be google's autocomplete, I'm not sure which
service does this) and the firefox spell-checker. When I turn off
spell-checking in the subject box when the problem occurs, the auto-
complete shows and all is well. If there is no auto-complete (ie. I
have not typed text start with the same word(s) previously), there is no
problem.

To test this: Try is with a gmail subject box. Make sure auto-complete
is on, as well as spell-checking. Type something you never typed
before. Like '6tiksmkd'. No problem. Type something like 'Japan
Tsunami (or whatever you entered before) and the problem occurs. No
right-click in the subject box and turn off spell-checking. The problem
goes away.

Can others confirm if the same happens with them?

[Bug 651586] Re: Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox spellcheck has too many languages

Firefox seems to detect different spell checkers now. I can add

same goes for en-za.

Can someone shed some light of the various methods FF can use (version
3.6 upwards it seems)? Maybe we can find a workaround in the meantime?

[Bug 402752] Re: OpenOffice.org 3 does not save sheet reference correctly for Excel format

2009-07-26 Thread Roland Giesler
I did now test this on a windows machine with OOo 3.1 and it seems that
this problem does not occur there. I have not installed OOo 3.1 on my
Ubuntu desktop yet, so I cannot test this here. However, the difference
in behaviour between OOo 3.0 and 3.1 seems to be that the newer version
understands the sheet1!A1 reference that Excel uses, but the older does
not.

I used the following formula in a cell, which is still broken when
exported to Excel from OO0 3.1 though:

=IF(INDIRECT(CELL(contents,$A8).$B$5)=D$1,INDIRECT(CELL(contents,$A8).$B$1),0)

Cell A8 contains the name of the sheet that the value of B5 or B1 should
be looked up from. However, when this sheet is saved as an xls file,
the .$B$5 is not converted to !B$5, probably because OOo does not
understand that the value of CELL(contents,$A8) must be a sheet name
by mere virtue of the syntax. It should however, since there is not
other element that can precede a cell reference except a sheet reference
if my synopsis is correct.

In the OOo 3.1 for Windows test I could do, this is still the case.
Excel does not understand sheet1.$B$5. If I use the reference without
INDIRECT though, all is well. OOo translates sheet1.A1 to sheet1!A1
when saved as xls.

Of course the workaround is to use the reference notation that Excel
uses, since OOo 3.1 seems to understand this now, but this is only a
workaround and a complex sheet like they one I built in OOo takes a lot
of time to manually convert and then OOo 3.0 users cannot use the sheet
again, which creates a new problem.

I trust this desrcibes the problem a bit clearer, but if I need to
provide more detail I'd be glad to.

[Bug 402752] [NEW] OpenOffice.org 3 does not save sheet reference correctly for Excel format

2009-07-21 Thread Roland Giesler
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

OOo refers to a cell on a sheet as sheet1.$A$1 fo example, whereas Excel
does it this way: sheet1!$A$1.

When saving a sheet in OOo in xls format, the conversion is not done and
all cells with the OOo reference are reported as errors in Excel. The
inverse is true as well. When Excel sheets are opened in OOo the
sheet1!$A$1 reference is not converted to the . notation.

[Bug 219473] Re: no policykit access on ltsp thin client

2009-06-17 Thread Roland Giesler
Additionally to setting the Must Be In Active Session option to
None, I also had to set the Implicit Authentication for anyone to
Admin Authentication before this would work.

I'm using Jaunty 64bit Server with LTSP. Now I can access users-admin
via and ssh -X session and also from a thin client session.

But these problem should be addressed. They've been in Ubuntu 64 Server
since Hardy, which is two releases ago.

regards

Roland

[Bug 156116] Re: rhythmbox album cover displayed incorrectly

2009-02-04 Thread Roland Giesler
The album is Matt Redman's Intimacy which displays the cover for the
film Intimacy.

I've also attached the song One thing remains which I chose to play to
get the wrong cover art to show.

This is just one of many wrong covers that appear.

Providing an option to select an alternative cover would be a simple
solution to this problem.

[Bug 207312] Re: PulseAudio Sound Server: Failed to connect: Connection refused

2008-11-12 Thread Roland Giesler
It's been more than a month now since the previous comment and this
problem is still not resolved as far as I can tell. I'm running a fresh
install of Ubuntu Hardy 64 and need sound on the machine. I do not want
to upgrade to Intrepid since I need the Ubuntu LTS version in this
instance.

Anyone have any news or update on this issue?

I have in this machine an onboard soundcard:
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio
Controller (rev 02)
as well as the following two cards:
08:00.0 Multimedia audio controller: Creative Labs SB Audigy LS
08:01.0 Multimedia controller: Pinnacle Systems Inc. AV/DV Studio Capture Card

[Bug 196285] Re: [Regression] Realtek RTL-8185 Wifi not recognized in Hardy 8.04 Alpha 5

2008-05-07 Thread Roland Giesler
Excellent, Will! My ndiswrapper drivers where also just disconnecting
me from the AP randomly, but once I installed your patch even the
graphic tool (nm-applet) works with the driver.

[Bug 203906] Re: tinyerp-client fails on startup

2008-05-02 Thread Roland Giesler
This fix does not seem to work on Hardy. What is actually broken in the
package? Is it a faulty pixmap, is the location of the file incorrect
(in my 4.2.0 installation there was no /usr/share/pixmap/tinyerp-client
directory) or is it something else? I did copy the files did attached
into that directory, but it makes no difference.

I also had a look as the source file /usr/lib/tinyerp-
client/common/common.py (line 68), but I don't know the language well
enough to figure out where the problem is.
