Here's workaround for this bug:
* Install compizconfig-settings-manager
* Go to General Options / Focus Raise Behaviour
* Add !(class=Hamster-indicator) condition to Focus Prevention Windows. On my
system this field looks like this:
!(class=Polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1)
I see the same issue on my machine. It has started happening after I
migrated to a new disk. I installed 12.04.1 from scratch and copied my
old home directory over it.
Note that I use nvidia-current, not xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (original
bug reporter uses nvidia-current too IMO).

works ok). In my case problem is in gnome-settings-daemon, which thinks
that there are active external outputs and does not suspend because of

As a side note - this bug has one funny aspect. If you look at the
beginning of do_lid_closed_action method, there is code starting with
comment - /* check we won't melt when the lid is closed */. Well if I
don't miss anything we WOULD MELT if external display was connected :-)

Real problem for me is that laptop does not suspend. I want it to
suspend even when there is external display connected. I've filled new
bug for that and I'm keeping this bug report open, because function
gnome_rr_output_is_laptop does not work correctly IMO.

On first attempt to switch system becomes unresponsive and display
