[Bug 1040996] Re: Not offered Install alongside if other OS isn't Windows or Ubuntu
I understand. But it leaves me needing some guidance as a tester. This was a case of a test result that did not match the expected result stated in the test case (1301 for Lubuntu Desktop AMD64+Mac). I was unable to carry out steps 5 - 9 of the test case as stated. That leaves me with no choice but to fail the test, in which case I must file a bug report. Or am I being too picky? [Bug 1040401] Re: Lubuntu Live CD - AMD64+Mac 12.10 build Aug 21 2012. Persistence functionality not enabled.
Sorry for the delay. The PPC version of 12.10 has been taking my time over the past few days. Looks like the only difference (see attached screen shot) is the efi file, which of course, explains why it won't boot on this Intel MacBook. To prepare this stick, I used the Startup Disk Creator available from the Lubuntu software center. There are what appear to be two versions of the same program there. The first one did not generate the casper-rw file. The second one - which the attachment shows, did. How did you get efi on there? [Bug 1040401] Re: Lubuntu Live CD - AMD64+Mac 12.10 build Aug 21 2012. Persistence functionality not enabled.
I have tried to enable persistence again, making sure I was doing what you suggested above. I am currently using today's build - Sept 26 2012, and I am still unable to get persistence going. Confirmed that I have a file on my USB stick called casper-rw. Confirmed that I am passing the arguement 'persistent' to the kernel on bootup by pressing F6 and adding it to the command line. Confirmed that on my USB stick there is an ext3 file system. The files lost and found and casper-rw exist within it. I have also tried the program Startup Disk Creator from the Lubuntu Software Centre. That didn't correctly provide persistence either, even though I had moved the slider over to 3.5 Gig. It won't boot on my MacBook because of the EFI boot system Apple Uses, however I expected that. The computer I'm doing for all of this is a 2008 MacBook - with Intel core duo 2.4 Ghz. 4 Gigabytes of RAM and a 250 Gigabyte internal hard drive, all of which is devoted to Lubuntu testing. When I want OS X Lion, I have it on an external USB drive. The only place I've been able to get persistence to work on my Windows computer (Win 7) and run Ubuntu 12.04 from a live CD. Then I run Startup Disk Creator there. There I can browse files, change the desktop, change the settings on my browser, browse a few pages, write a short text file and save it to the desktop, and everything was preserved as it should be. The installer then would write a new partition using the other 50% of drive space freed up. With my current knowledge of LVM, that's as good an answer as I can give. Ron Mitchell Dear original submitter - can you please reconfirm the disk partitioning scheme used? Was it LVM with separate /boot? One thing to note is that from the logs the reporter's machine suggests that it is installed on top of LVM. Currently LVM is ambiguous from auto-resize point of view. From implementation point of view, the resize (aka alogside install) is available when: * existing installation is single full disk (e.g. full disk linux/windows) * where there is sufficient amount of free space available in that partition to perform a resize * there is sufficient amount of space left to install ubuntu if resize is attempted * the partitioner understands how to resize that file system This is pre-requisites =) Now the caveats * the resizing may fail if the extends are allocated in a such a way that a resize without defragmentation is not possible, or not supported enough by existing tools. This is ambiguous from LVM point of view, because: * do you want to resize the VG create a separate normal partition - OR - do you want to create ubuntu lvm volumes within that group? * where should the boot loader go to? [Bug 1051770] [NEW] Installer has crashed. Sept 13 build of Lubuntu 12.10 with special postinst file in place.
Public bug reported: Attempted a full disk install of Lubuntu 12.10 (Sept 13 2012 build) from Live CD. A test was being conducted at the time of a post install yaboot file replacing /usr/lib/ubiquity/yaboot-install/yaboot-install. I had renamed the existing file in that directory, and replaced it with one provided by ojordan. The original problem, reported as bug 1043066 was a failure of the bootloader with a bootable external USB drive (Mac OS X) plugged in. That problem went away when I unplugged the external USB drive and re- installed. substituted the yaboot-install with the revised postinst file (renamed it to yaboot-install, and attempted installation from the live disk. All looked normal until near the end of the install, but then the installer crashed. eMac G4 (1.25 Ghz) - 4 gig RAM - 80 Gig hard drive. I misunderstood. My apologies. Attempted install from the live disk of Sept 13 with the postinstall file in place. Got an installer crash Bug 1051770 refers. [Bug 1049406] Re: Differences between Test Case uri-001 Ubiquity Resize Install and actual install of Lubuntu 12.10 build Sept 11 2012
#1) No, not as far as I can recall. I'm guessing but I think it began to appear somewhere in the last week of August. #2) On the 250 Gig hard drive where I was attempting the install, there was a previous build of Lubuntu 12.10 and Ubuntu 12.04, each occupying roughly 50% of the drive space available. What I expected was that the installer would resize one of the partitions to free up space for the install. Neither of the existing operating systems was using anywhere near the space they were allotted. While both systems were installed (taking less than 6 Gig apiece), there was nothing else on either partition, and that should have shown as free space - I would think. #3) Screen shot attached as requested. I'm not sure that my existing drive configuration was a fair test of the Resizing test case. The test case did state that in order to carry it out, I needed to have another system already installed on the hard drive. In fact however I had two operating systems installed. Not sure if that was consistent with the setup required. ** Attachment added: Screen shot - Installation type https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1049406/+attachment/3310659/+files/P1090660.JPG -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1049406 Title: Differences between Test Case uri-001 Ubiquity Resize Install and actual install of Lubuntu 12.10 build Sept 11 2012 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1049406/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Public bug reported: There seems to be differences between the expected results described in the test case and what is actually presented during the install: 1) After the screen Preparing to install Lubuntu a dialogue box appears stating, The installer has detected that the following disks have mounted partitions. and asking whether or not these partitions should be unmounted before continuing. Such a screen does not appear in the test case. 2) Under installation Type there is no option Allocate Drive Space as mentioned in the test case, the only choices available are a) Erase disk and install Lubuntu; b) Encrypt the new Ubuntu installation for security c) Use LVM with the new Ubuntu installation; d) Something else. There is no mention of re-sizing existing partitions to install system XX.XX beside system YY.YY as shown in the test case. [Bug 1041625] Re: X not starting after install [openchrome]
To add more to my comment above: Greg suggested doing a particular keypress combination ( cntl- AppleCommand-T) while Plymouth was loading. That put us into a CLI of sorts, and eventually the live disk desktop loaded cleanly. All the problems reported above went away. Did an install to my main internal hard drive from there. The result was an install that worked, but is still not clean. There are still distorted background colours on the toolbars. Doesn't seem to matter what app is tried, the toolbar shows up with horizontal multi- coloured stripes. [Bug 1041625] Re: X not starting after install [openchrome]
I'm a newbie here, and most of this is going way over my head. However I've been having trouble with Lubuntu 12.10 (PPC desktop) for the past few days, right up to today's build (Sept 5). 1) wireless network applet on the lower task bar appears to be dead. When I click on it, nothing happens. 2) If I click on the Install Lubuntu CD icon, top left hand corner, the header of a window appears. It's entitled Install:, but all I see is the header and the outline of where the dialogue box is supposed to be. 3) If I open PCManFM, the colour scheme is completely seems distorted in places particularly at the top left just under the tool bar, where the forward/back buttons are. Horizontally striped colours that make the buttons almost unreadable. 4) If I try to Quit the Installation, there is another blank dialogue box with only a red circled exclamation point at the left top and the words Quit the installation? in the centre, and the usual - + X buttons at the right. All of this with today's build running an an eMac G4 PPC running at 1.2 Ghz - 4 Gig Ram - 80 Gig hard drive. Should I be filing bug reports, or are these issues already known? [Bug 1034954] Re: ubiquity crashed with KeyError in get_autopartition_choice(): None
Yes I will try that. Just attempted the same test case again, this time with Fedora 14 installed as my System YY - ie Fedora was installed on the full disk. Ran Lubuntu from the Live Disk (AMD64+Mac) and got to the box headed Installation Type. This time is recognized that Fedora 14 was installed and didn't even offer the choice of resizing partition. It offered only: Replace Fedora release 14(Laughlin)) with Lubuntu Something else I'll be back to you when I've tried your suggestion. [Bug 1040996] [NEW] Test Case uri-001 Ubiquity Resize Install - Resizing partition choice not available
Public bug reported: System is a MacBook Intel Core Duo - 2.4 Ghz - 4 Gig of RAM - 250 Gig Hard Drive. Was attempting to perform Test Case uri-001 - on Lubuntu 12.10 build of Aug 21 2012 Previously installed System was Fedora 14 According to the Test Case procedure under the heading, Allocate drive space, the installer is supposed to offer a choice of installing Lubuntu alongside the previous system. Instead it offered me the following choices: Replace Fedora 14 with Lubuntu Something else It should be noted that this was my second attempt at performing this procedure. During the first attempt (see comment under bug #1034954), the aim was to partition available hard drive space between the previously installed system - Lubuntu 12.10 build of August 14 2012 and the system being installed from Live Desktop Disk - Lubuntu 12.10 build of August 21 2012. A crash occurred at the same point as referred to in that bug report. I added my comment. As suggested by Mr. Ledkovs (comment 9 under bug report #1034954), after booting the live install CD, I opened a terminal and ran Ubiquity from there. Thinking that perhaps the two systems were too much alike to be installed together, I decided to replace the previous system with something else (Fedora 14). That seems to have led to somewhat inconsistent behaviour from Ubiquity at this point in the Test Case. [Bug 1032493] [NEW] Play of Youtube videos yields white noise or loud static instead of the audio track.
Public bug reported: Was attempting to play the Youtube video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=noDAsZjvmSA Instead of the sound track, there was loud static resembling white noise for the entire duration of the video. The same video played normally on another Lubuntu 12.10 installation I have here, as a Virtual Box guest on my MacBook. On my eMac, where the problem occurs, sound is working ok for playing audio CD's with Audacious and also with Gnome Mplayer. [Bug 1029212] Re: System Profiler and Benchmark 2 blank gui boxes closing the small one results in the system info to be displayed.
Similar problem here with System Profiler and Benchmark. Running an eMAC PPC G4 with 1 Gig of RAM. Getting 4 blank gui-boxes opening. Have to close each one of them out for the program to properly open. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1029212 Title: System Profiler and Benchmark 2 blank gui boxes closing the small one results in the system info to be displayed. [Bug 285629] [NEW] Incorrect description of 'Home' and 'End' key functions in gnome-desktop-help for evince
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: yelp Ubuntu 8.04. Help 2.22.1. Evince Document Viewer Manual Shortcuts page. It says that Home = Go to the first page, End = Go to the last page. That's not right, at least in my version of Evince, which is 2.22.2. The actual key functions are: Home goes to start of page. End goes to end of page. Ctrl-Home goes to start of document. Ctrl-End goes to end of document. By the way, why does the About screen identify the application as Help when its real name is yelp? - I had to do some finding out to discover the real package name. ** Affects: yelp (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Incorrect description of 'Home' and 'End' key functions in gnome-desktop-help for evince https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/285629 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
