In karmic i had to compile and build rtl8192se_linux_xxx_64bit.tar.gz . I have been running this machine (default Lucid install) , for 4 - 5 days without stop (no more hangs). Hi Cyber-Ice, i followed the advices from Luv2Hack and perico. And this afternoon my computer is working ok (up 7h:15min) without hangs. :) (with massive working, firefox, ktorrent, etc...) Thanks to both, and another people. Download the last versión...rtl8192se_linux_2.6.0014.0115.2010, and... edit ./HAL/rtl8192/Makefile remove al lines with -DENABLE_LPS do a: make clean sudo -s make make install for me it's working now ok. (agh, i've bought an external wifi yesterday... I have a Conceptonic 150N usb dongle: Bus 002 Device 010: ID 148f:3070 Ralink Technology, Corp. with chipset rt3070 In kubuntu karmic 64 bits, it doesnt work. i tried with: - 2009_1110_RT3070_Linux_STA_v2.1.2.0.tar.bz2 and - RT2870_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.0.tar.tar.bz2 from ralink site. I compile them. Drivers (both) detect network, and try to connect. But any driver work with WPA. Detect the network ok, and try to connnect, but it's always question for the key (as invalid key. but key is valid indeed). I installed again RT2870_LinuxSTA_V2.3.0.0.tar.tar.bz2 , and i did the first time sudo make only... , we have to do sudo make and sudo make install (i forgot the this too..) /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf: #conceptronic 150n blacklist rt2800usb blacklist rt2870sta /etc/modules: #conceptronic 150n rt3070sta Now its working all ok, and speed is very good. My system was unstable with versions: rtl8192se_linux_2.6.0010.1211.2009 rtl8192se_linux_2.6.0013.1204.2009 I was having unexcepted crashes, with caps lock blinding, and SysReq only dump gargabe in log file. I was not sure if the problem was with wireless until 2 days ago, when i uninstall the driver. Now system is stable using cable conection. I'm going to try now Realtek RTL9192SE Linux Driver Rev 0014 (thanks luv2hack) My system is a: PORTATIL TOSHIBA SATELLITE A500-18Q CORE2DUO P7450 with karmic 64 bits (2.6.31-17-generic). Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gedit The bug creates an ugly jitter when the gtksourceview component refreshes itself (note: this is what appears to happen). To reproduce the behaviour, one must have gedit open any sort of text file and have the window of some other application open. With focus on the other window, refocus on the gedit window and highlight some text. The text jitters slightly to the right. This now happens whenever you release a click on the source view widget. This behaviour stops as soon as the mouse passes over any other widget in the gedit window (file tab, toolbar, menubar). Mmmm, there are changes in xf86-video-intel Before this changes, my script was running ok. I found a thread about this changes and this compile error in http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=5595336 I deleted my ~/mesa directory, arthur if you didn't delete it, you could send me that directory compressed?. I can change the script for no download , only compile the sources from the compress file. Arthur, open a terminal in your home, and run: sudo tar -cvzf mesa.tar.gz mesa/ after, please send me the file mesa.tar.gz (created in your home), to starman___ (at) hotmail .com (3 underlines). Hi Arthur... maybe a problem with compiz+opengl. If your system works ok without compiz.. then the more easy solution is disable compiz. From I put the script, my system never hang again. (i am not using compiz). Yagi858: You can remove the mesa folder in your home directory without problems. Julian, Yagi858: About updates, i think if you install a package, the package overwrite modules compiled by script. I have the package xserver-xorg-video-intel pendding of install. The better option is install the package, check if this bug is corrected with the package, (blender, games...)... and then, if all is correct, then, all done. else, launch again the script to download and compile mesa again. If someone was installed the last xserver-xorg-video-intel package... Alberto:the problem you are having is that you have dependences not installed, and then, apt-get in the script is not working. open a terminal, and write: apt-get update [enter] apt-get install -f [enter] , and press y or s, to install the packages neccessaries. The -f option in apt-get is for fix dependences. All working well. I upload the script. process to run it: 1) download in you home directory. 2) set executable: chmod +x ~/compilar_mesa.sh 3) execute it. ~/.compilar_mesa after all done, restart the computer or xorg xerver. With blender from ubuntu packages i have a segmentation fault, with blender downloaded from blender.org all works ok. I solved this problem in Kubuntu Hardy selecting in KDE-System Configuration - Language- Keyboard : Keyboard spanish, es. And selecting the checkbox which says Incluir diseño latino, in english will be include latin design/layout. Note: The checkbox only appears when you mark your language in right column. All this for spanish of spain language, and virtualbox 1.5.6 included with hardy. Appears working with german too. The some problem here. In a Phoenix laptop (gm965). I had this problem in gutsy, and now, in hardy beta 1. Graphics is a GMA3100. Ok, this peace of hardware has just been Ubuntugraded. A simple matter in the end it seems, but for the benefit of others to come: - on first boot edit grub's line for ubuntu: press e, select line that says kernel, press e and add noapic and boot - when in ubuntu, edit grub menu.lst (as shown on instructions) and add noapic again to the end of kernel line on both normal and rescue modes. This problem with tx1020 is now solved. I downloaded ubuntu-7.04-desktop-amd64.iso couple of hours ago. Didn't boot right away, BUT... thanks for the help menu, press f6 and added noapic nolapic and we're in business :-) So far I got Live booted up nicely (including touchpad, haven't tested other features), install is running. Installation apparently went ok BUT... U doesn't boot on it's own or on recovery mode (hangs on Loading hardware drivers). I don't know how to include noapic nolapic (if usable?) for booting. Via install-CD recovery I can get to a shell in the root. QUESTIONS:On short term I'll have to try to access Grub to make it doubleboot to Vista for now to have some internet access. How to do it? Can it be set to have an option to boot to shell only with minimal drivers etc. (would make it more easy to fix things?)? On long term I suppose I'll have to start retrieving info about possible problemspots (whose ot say it's just one in there) to first get it to boot to desktop. That will be the end of this bug, I suppose.
