This bug affects a colleague of mine. The restarting of xfwm4 aspect of
the bug has been fixed in bug #978333 however the slow logout time
described still affects his machine.

This general technique worked for me too (I used a slightly modified
order):
- shutdown laptop
- disconnect charger
- removed battery
- wait 30 seconds
- reinsert battery
- attach charger
- boot laptop
- check syslog/kernel/dmesg : all fine :-)
