[Bug 175983] Different keys clear cell contents in Windows vs. Linux
Public bug reported: In Windows, the backspace key deletes the contents of a cell, while the delete key brings up the delete contents menu with checkboxes. In Linux, the keys are reversed. Sorry for my lack of specificity. I am talking about Calc. This inconsistency/bug has been present since I started using OOo during v2.1. That won't work for the apostrophe, only for quotes. When typing an apostrophe (’), Writer instead inserts a straight tick
(').
I thought it might be an issue with my installation or template, but it
is the same in both WIndows XP and Ubuntu 7.10 on my computer. I also
went back to the default template, which did not fix the problem.

I am using standard U.S. keyboard layout on my ThinkPad. I get normal apostrophes in all other programs in both operating systems. Correction. I now get straight ticks in all programs in both operating systems except for Word 2007. I can't explain the change, but I checked other programs before reporting this as a bug, and every other editor was using proper apostrophes before. Either Writer somehow managed to affect the system-wide settings, or I have a hardware problem.
