Same here on a Macbook 4,1. i.e., Sometimes I can not type my password
in as key presses are not recognised, but if I select the (already
selected) keyboard layout then the keyboard starts to work.

settings in alsamixer but it didn't seem to fix the issue. Then, after
a reboot it started working although I didn't notice straight away so

the same) didn't seem to exhibit itself in earlier kernel versions used

The main problem seems to be when I place a second finger close to my
first finger causing the cursor to jump and jerk across the screen
(i.e., disappers and reappears in any other part of the screen). I have
tried to alter values in synclient to reduce this but I haven't had much
luck.

better than in 13.10 (but not as smooth as Windows 7)

This is happening to me on my 12.10 install. i.e., after boot I get a
blank purple screen then followed by a blank black screen before the
monitor goes into stand-by. If I switch the VT from F2 back to F7 the
plymouth screen then appears fine and I can see the password box.
