[Bug 1898477] [NEW] Old indicator items are not removed, just hidden

2020-10-04 Thread Sebastian Geiger
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

In Focal the indicator-applet (12.10.2+20.04.20200409-0ubuntu1) contains
a bug that can cause duplicate icons to appear in the applet. When an
application which creates a notification item is closed, then the
indicator applet will just hide its item and not remove it. If the
application is started again, a new item will be added to the applet,
but the old item is still present (just hidden). When the panel is moved
or otherwise refreshed, then all items will be made visible again,
causing many duplicates.

The required fix is included in https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~indicator-
applet-developers/indicator-applet/trunk.14.04/revision/451 and needs to
be back ported into the new SRU release.

For more details see this merge request:
https://code.launchpad.net/~lanoxx/indicator-applet/fix-duplicate-icons/+merge/390344

[Test Case]

 1. Open an application which adds a notification item to the indicator applet.
Examples for such an applications are VLC, Network Manager Applet, or Skype.
 2. Close the application and reopen it.
 3. Hold Alt key, then move the panel which has the indicator applet to an
different edge of the screen.
 4. Observe that new two icons of the respective application are visible (e.g.
to VLC icons).

[Regression Potential]

 * The regression potential is minimal. The only user of this package are the
GNOME Flashback packages. The biggest impact this change could have is that
indicator applet items behave incorrectly, which is not worse than the current
situation.
 * I have tested this patch for several weeks now and not found any regressions.

2020-06-20 Thread Sebastian Geiger
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

This is a bug fix release that includes:
- translation updates;
- bug fix updates for netspeed, drivemount and window-picker applets;

NEWS

Change log for 3.63.4:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-applets/-/commit/ea8ec983c8d5e285c341b7a9448e0bf20d43d363
Change log for 3.63.3:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-applets/-/commit/2d5de2dff49a520f4b4fbed81d94841441729344

Fixes:

- A bug fix for the netspeed applet to ensure that dialogs are destroyed when
an applet is destroyed:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-applets/+bug/1879140

- A bug fix for the window-picker applet to ensure that task icons are
correctly removed when a
windows is closed:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-applets/+bug/1879140

- A change for the drivemount applet to ensure errors are properly cleared:
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-applets/+bug/1884381

Besides the above bug fixes the release contains the following two minor
changes:

An change for the drivemount applet to update the nautilus desktop id, without
this change the drivemount applet will fail to open the GNOME Nautilus file
manager.
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-applets/-/commit/5445406a1257bc33b3b531d398748e311c6d93f6

An update for the netspeed applet to remove an unused variable:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-applets/-/commit/29272f65a4fce9049aa9c519752eead39127dab9

[Test Cases]
- See the three linked bug reports for test cases of each individual issue that
was fixed.
- The other two changes are minor code cleanups that cannot be validated with a
test case.

[Regression Potential]

netspeed:
The removal of an unused private variable has no regression potential since it
is not part of a public interface.

drivemount:
The change to clear an error variable is only a minor cleanup in the code with
minimal regression potential.

[Other Info]

None.

[Bug 1884381] [NEW] Gnome-applets 3.36.2: drivemount applet cannot open nautilus

2020-06-20 Thread Sebastian Geiger
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
The nautilus desktop file shipped in GNOME has been renamed by nautilus [1].
The drivemount applet is still using the old desktop file id which prevents it
from opening nautilus.

Fixed in:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-applets/-/commit/5445406a1257bc33b3b531d398748e311c6d93f6

[Test Case]
- Add drivemount to the panel.
- Click on a mounted item to open the context menu.
- Click on "Open " to open nautilus for that folder.
- Without this fix the drivemount applet will display a error dialog with the
message: "Cannot start nautilus file manager. Cannot find nautilus.".

[Regression Potential]
None. This only changes the desktop file id string used to open nautilus. The
worst that could happen is that the drivemount applet is still unable to open
nautilus after the change, which would not be different from the current status.

[Bug 1884375] [NEW] Gnome-applets 3.36.2: Dialogs in netspeed applet are not properly closed when applet is destroyed

2020-06-20 Thread Sebastian Geiger
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

When a netspeed applet with opened dialogs is destroyed then the dialogs
are not properly destroyed. This can result in leaked memory.

This bug is fixed in the GNOME Applets release 3.36.4 (in commit
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
applets/-/commit/d1231ff9b7aa1bab7e9488ffd1f54c50a4f87d6d)

NEWS file of corresponding release which fixes this bug
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-applets/-/commit/ea8ec983c8d5e285c341b7a9448e0bf20d43d363

[Test Case]
* Add the netspeed applet to a gnome-panel.
* Open a dialog such as the preferences or the device details dialog.
* Remove the netspeed applet from the gnome-panel.
* The resulting dialogs are not properly destroyed and will continue to consume
resources (e.g. memory) until the gnome-panel is restarted.

[Regression Potential]
The regression potential is minimal, the change for the corresponding bug fix
only affects the netspeed applet and just adds code to free additional
resources which are owned by the netspeed applet. These resources are not used
by other applets or the panel itself.

[Bug 1879140] [NEW] gnome-applets_3.36.2-1: window-picker applet fails to free items when window moved between monitors

2020-05-17 Thread Sebastian Geiger
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

There is a bug in the window-picker applet that prevents task items from
being correctly freed when multiple window-picker applets exist on
different monitors and windows are moved to another monitor before being
closed. After several windows have been opened and closed, the window
picker applet will fill up with icons from non longer existing windows.
These icons can be clicked, but since the corresponding window has been
closed the click has no effect.

Upstream fix:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-applets/-/commit/62cf437d4ccd1cbeed81eaa13f35876989df28af

Backported fix for Gnome Applets 3.36:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-applets/-/commit/acbb16cb49a3d0d6abe93bf5a1e9b8b42fdbcf4b

[Test Case]

To test this issue a multi-monitor setup with two monitors required.
Ensure that on each monitor there is a gnome-panel and each panel has a
window-picker applet added to it.

1. Open a window on one monitor.
2. Move the window to the other monitor.
3. Close the window.
4. The icon for the closed window will remain visible on the window-picker
applet of the second monitor.

It may help to repeat these steps several times and open and close to
different other windows.

[Regression Potential]

The regression potential is minimal. The code for the signal handlers
already existed in the current versions. The change only ensures that
the callbacks are reconnected to the correct object.

[Bug 1877758] Re: [SRU] Update to 1.5.2-1

2020-05-13 Thread Sebastian Geiger
I have opened a Launchpad bug for each upstream bug:

Launchpad bug for upstream bug 406: URL Parsing broken since VTE update to 0.60

Launchpad bug for upstream bug 404: Url-parsing cuts on at-sign "@"

Launchpad bug for upstream bug 420: Close tab confirmation dialog can reappear

Launchpad bug for upstream bug 421: The switch-page callback is registered

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tilda/+bug/1878478

I think there is no need to open a corresponding Launchpad bug for
upstream issues 418 and 422 since they concern issues introduced during
the 1.5.1 release which does not have a corresponding package in Ubuntu.
This bug is about upgrading from 1.5.0-1.1 directly to 1.5.2.

[Bug 1878478] [NEW] Tilda 1.5.0-1.1: The switch-page callback is registered multiple times

2020-05-13 Thread Sebastian Geiger
Public bug reported:

Signal handlers for the "switch-page" signal are continuously being
registered when a new tab is opened and are not correctly cleaned up
when a tab is closed causing a linear increase in invoked callbacks when
a user switches tabs.

Affects Version: 1.5.0-1.1
Fixed Version: 1.5.2-1

The fix is already in Debian unstable and also in Ubuntu Groovy but
requires an SRU upload for Focal.

Relevant upstream bug:
https://github.com/lanoxx/tilda/issues/421

[Test Case]
1. This can only be observed in the debug mode when the invocation of the
signal handler callback is logged to the console. In debug mode users would see
the "tilda_terminal_switch_page_cb" message to be printed N times for N tabs
that have been opened (for the life time of the process including for tabs that
have already been closed).

Expected result: the switch-page callback is invoked exactly one when
the user switches between one tab and another one.

The fix is part of tilda 1.5.1, see upstream milestone for 1.5.1 which tracks
the corresponding issue #406:
https://github.com/lanoxx/tilda/milestone/7?closed=1

[Bug 1878476] [NEW] Tilda 1.5.0-1.1: Close tab confirmation dialog can reappear if canceled

2020-05-13 Thread Sebastian Geiger
Public bug reported:

The close tab confirmation dialog can reappear if canceled and if the
context menu has been opened before.

Affects Version: 1.5.0-1.1
Fixed Version: 1.5.2-1

The fix is already in Debian unstable and also in Ubuntu Groovy but
requires an SRU upload for Focal.

Relevant upstream bug:
https://github.com/lanoxx/tilda/issues/420

[Test Case]
1. Open context menu
2. Close context menu
3. Open a new tab
4. Close the new tab -> Confirmation dialog should open (if not this can be
configured in the settings).
5. Click cancel. The confirmation dialog will reappear.

Expected result: The confirmation dialog should close and should not re-
appear.

The fix is part of tilda 1.5.1, see upstream milestone for 1.5.1 which tracks
the corresponding issue #406:
https://github.com/lanoxx/tilda/milestone/7?closed=1

** Affects: tilda (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1878475] [NEW] Tilda 1.5.0-1.1: Fullscreen tilda window can appear behind panels

2020-05-13 Thread Sebastian Geiger
Public bug reported:

Fullscreen tilda window can appear behind panels.

Affects Version: 1.5.0-1.1
Fixed Version: 1.5.2-1

The fix is already in Debian unstable and also in Ubuntu Groovy but
requires an SRU upload for Focal.

Relevant upstream bug:
https://github.com/lanoxx/tilda/issues/419

[Test Case]
1. Open tilda window
2. Switch to fullscreen (via F11 by default)
3. Toggle tilda window to hidden and show again.
4. Observe that without this fix, the tilda window can sometimes re-appear
behind panels.

Because this issue is caused by an incorrect X11 time stamp that is
passed to X by tilda this bug may not manifest itself all the time and
how this bug manifests itself may additionally depend on the window
manager being used.

Expected result: The fullscreen tilda window appears in front of panels.

The fix is part of tilda 1.5.1, see upstream milestone for 1.5.1 which tracks
the corresponding issue #406:

[Bug 1878474] [NEW] Tilda 1.5.0-1.1: Url-parsing cuts on at-sign "@"

2020-05-13 Thread Sebastian Geiger
Public bug reported:

Using tilda 1.5.0 and when there are URLs detected, t those are cut at
at-sign "@"

Affects Version: 1.5.0-1.1
Fixed Version: 1.5.2-1

The fix is already in Debian unstable and also in Ubuntu Groovy but
requires an SRU upload for Focal.

Relevant upstream bug:
https://github.com/lanoxx/tilda/issues/404

[Test Case]
1. Output a URL which contains an '@' character, without this patch the URL
will be cut-off before the '@' character, but we cannot observe this because
URL matching is broken in 1.5.0. With this fix we can observe that the URL is
correctly matched. For example
https://www.flickr.com/photos/22047531@N03/49224861571/ is matched as
https://www.flickr.com/photos/22047531 when hovering and clicking on it.

Expected result: The full URL is matched.

This issue cannot be tested / reproduced in Focal, because due to bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/tilda/+bug/1878473 the whole
URL matching function is broken. To reproduce one needs to downgrade to
an older VTE version or apply the fix for that issue separately.

The fix is part of tilda 1.5.1, see upstream milestone for 1.5.1 which tracks
the corresponding issue #406:
https://github.com/lanoxx/tilda/milestone/7?closed=1

[Bug 1878473] [NEW] Tilda 1.5.0-1.1: URL Parsing broken since VTE update to 0.60

2020-05-13 Thread Sebastian Geiger
Public bug reported:

The URL parsing in tilda is broken since update of VTE3 to 0.60.

Affects Version: 1.5.0-1.1
Fixed Version: 1.5.2-1

The fix is already in Debian unstable and also in Ubuntu Groovy but
requires an SRU upload for Focal.

Relevant upstream bug:
https://github.com/lanoxx/tilda/issues/406

[Test Case]

1. Print a URL in the terminal, such as with `echo https://google.com`
2. Hover over the URL with the mouse. The URL will not be turned into a link
and cannot be clicked.

Expected result: The URL turns into a link and can be clicked.

[Bug 1864364] [NEW] Possible Regession: PCRE2 fails to match regex

2020-02-23 Thread Sebastian Geiger
Public bug reported:

I am reporting this bug in response to a discussion in [gnome-
terminal][1]. It looks like there has possibly been a regression from
EOAN to FOCAL in pcre2.

Given the following regex:

(?(?<='))?" "(?(DEFINE)(?(?x: (?: [0-9] |
[1-9][0-9] | 1[0-9]{2} | 2[0-4][0-9] | 25[0-5] ) (?! [0-9] ) )))"
"(?(DEFINE)(?(?x: (?: (?) \\. ){3} (?) )))"
"(?(DEFINE)(?[[:xdigit:]]{1,4})(?:(?))(?(?):))"
"(?(DEFINE)(?(?x: (?: " "(?x: :: )" " | " "(?x: : (?){1,7} )"
" | " "(?x: (?! (?: [[:xdigit:]]*: ){8} ) (?){1,6} (?){1,6} )" "
| " "(?x: (?){1,7} : )" " | " "(?x: (?){7} (?) )" " | (?: "
"(?x: (?){6} )" " | " "(?x: :: (?){0,5} )" " | " "(?x: (?! (?:
[[:xdigit:]]*: ){7} ) (?){1,4} (?){1,4} ) :" " | " "(?x:
(?){1,5} : )" " ) (?) ) (?! [.:[:xdigit:]] ) )))"
"(?(DEFINE)(?(?x: (?: "
"[-[:alnum:]\\Q_$.+!*,:;@&=?/~#|%'\\E]" "* (?: \\( (?_INNER) \\) |
\\[ (?_INNER) \\] ) )* " "[-[:alnum:]\\Q_$.+!*,:;@&=?/~#|%'\\E]" "*
)))" "(?(DEFINE)(?(?x: (?: "
"[-[:alnum:]\\Q_$.+!*,:;@&=?/~#|%'\\E]" "* (?: \\( (?_INNER) \\) |
\\[ (?_INNER) \\] ) )* (?: "
"[-[:alnum:]\\Q_$.+!*,:;@&=?/~#|%'\\E]" "* (?()"
"[-[:alnum:]\\Q_$+*:@&=/~#|%\\E]" "|" "[-[:alnum:]\\Q_$+*:@&=/~#|%'\\E]"
") )? )))" "(?

And the following input:

www.foo.bar/baz
WWW3.foo.bar/baz
FTP.FOO.BAR/BAZ
ftpxy.foo.bar/baz

The regex should match but does actually not match.

In EOAN this still worked as I have just confirmed in a virtual machine.

[Bug 1773570] [NEW] Request for packaging of gtk-doc-manual

2018-05-26 Thread Sebastian Geiger
Public bug reported:

The `gtk-doc-tools` package does not contain the gtk-doc-manual (see

The sources for the manual are part of the gtk-doc repository (see

[Bug 1666264] Re: FFe: Update gnome-terminal to 3.24 and vte to 0.48

2018-05-13 Thread Sebastian Geiger
This is really a mess. If we as developers cannot trust a particular
version of a library to contain the features advertised by the
documentation then that is a big problem.

As a developer working on open source software in my spare time I have
enough to do to keep up with the latest library changes and migrating my
package to drop deprecated features. I don't want to waste my time
trying to understand why a particular feature does not work as
advertised.

[Bug 1638201] [NEW] pdfsandwich: spaces between almost every character

Public bug reported:

pdfsandwich in Ubuntu is suffering from the following bug that has
already been reported and fixed in Debian:

On Ubuntu 16.04 (using a GTK based UI)

Its highly annoying since my username is rather long and I need to
retype it every time I start the connection. Since the password is
correctly saved this is clearly a bug.

[Bug 1620557] Re: weather.noaa.gov was shut down

2016-09-14 Thread Sebastian Geiger
I can confirm for 16.04 Xenial that the update works. After installation
and a restart of gnome-panel I do now see weather information where
there was previously only an empty space for the weather icon.

I do not have access to a 14.04 system at the moment so cannot confirm
for 14.04.
