That's not the issue, I didn't explain that well.
The problem is that afterwards everything Else has wrong characters,
including my bash prompt.

Otherwise, what is the point of including example content that is
wrongly encoded and doesn't show off the right qualities of the codec?

Works for me running a RealTek 8139 Rev 1. I'm running a stock kernel
and no specific configuration to my network modules AFAIK. But I *did*

/usr/share/example-content/fables_01_01_aesop.spx
^ the above file is encoded in 44.1kbs, which is a very normal and
standard bitrate. Or it is in formats other than speex.
