After upgrading Ubuntu, it stopped configuring the word connection on my
headless computer (super annoying to deal with). In any case, it was an
issue with NM config change that caused my wired device to become
unmanaged.

changes, just a fix for some audio bug.

my theory is that it is related to syndaemon disabling the touchpad, because:
1. touchpad operation can be resumed by synclient and xinput cli tools
2. rmmod psmouse && modprobe psmouse also works, but likely because that
reloads the synaptics driver
3. gpm driver continues to work in a console wh

my guess is the touchpad gets disabled by syndaemon and for some reason
fails to get re-enabled. synclient/xinput being able to re-enable the
mouse speaks for this, a
also, the scrambled text seems to be fairly random for the same essid.
also, now nm managed to bring the connection up (right essid and key) -
so it sometimes does not occur (just this once in 30 minutes though)

further, when i manually unscramble the essid, then the wep key gets set
as scrambled. manually setting that as well will allow me to connect but
that kind of defeats the purpose of nm.
