Same here with the final release of 17.10 on macOS 10.13. Log out and
choose Ubuntu on Xorg and no more flickering. More discussion on

Trying Ubuntu 12.04 α2 in a VirtualBox guest (host is Ubuntu 11.04, all
64 bit). The mouse pointer does not show at all when the LiveCD starts.
