A lot of comments, and not a single clear report!!!
If it is not fixed... Is there a patch for local script in initramfs-
tools and mdadm or is there any rebuilt package with the fixes?
Currently in Hardy i got:

Can you point to a wiki page or a comment in this thread where I'll find
a solution for hardy?

Request for reopening the bug!
I'm testing Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.04.1 netboot cd images which are coming with
2.6.24-16-generic kernel and my laptop's Ethernet card (it uses r8169 module)
can't get an ip address from the dhcp server.
I'm currently on hardy, where everything is ok.

probably those we're not updated at all.

A solution for problem was to type this in terminal:

But I'm not sure it's the best
Tested hardy beta-5 on a r8169 eth card and it worked!

I've downloaded the 7th December build for Hardy. The bug persists!
dhclient v3.0.6 refuses to get an ip in a wired network.
I've tested the gutsy version of dhclient 3.0.5 and everything works fine.
If there's a fix released, where can we get the new package?

I also studied the problem and suppose that libpcre.so.3 is the file
that generates the bug.
I've even copied the 32bit version file to my /usr/lib32, then
successfully installed the flashplugin-nonfree, but without any
results.
I mean the flash in firefox still doesn't appear!

npviewer.bin related...
After updating to the adobe's non-free flash plugin... Several time I
had the following situation. I could not close a tab (it just freeze
my FF) until I kill the npviewer.bin process
It directly affects the productivity of ff!!! Negatively!

You can also try as a solution: add to any of the panels the brightness
applet!
Now you're a click far from controlling laptop brightness!
I hope this ain't gonna be left unsolved...
