xchat-gnome --existing --url=irc://irc.something.net/channel
The Connect dialog showing available servers appears. This seems
counter intuitive since the given url is loaded in the background.

g_app_info_launch_default_for_uri pulls information from gconf as to how to
handle irc URIs. The current version sets the command to xchat-gnome
--existing --url=%s, which doesn't work properly.
glib 2.26.0 (and maybe newer), strip the %s
The Debian bug, 491200, is now 2.5 years old and also still waiting.
The package maintainer on the Debian side said he was way behind due to
real life, back on 04 Feb 2009. Nothing in that bug history either in
the years since. I think one of us needs to some how step up if there
is ever any

I use gvim by launching it from the terminal, so that I can have gvim
use the current directory and also be able to issue commands in the
project I'm working on.
I use :vsplit and :tabnew, which cause these errors.
Again, not critical, but a bit annoying since my console is filled with
these
I have the same problem with a Radeon RV250 (Mobility FireGL 9000). The
work around seems to work for me, but I get the tearing.
The bug #413259 solution seems to have fixed the tearing problem.
I'll also note that the compiz performance takes a hit without the
fixes. The animations stutter a
