Another note, I'm able to make chrome usable on my external monitor by
opening it using the following command. Obviously if I move chrome to my
4k laptop monitor it becomes unusable. But just documenting it as
another avenue.

GDK_DPI_SCALE=.5 google-chrome

[Bug 1751892] Re: Unable to set different Scale on different Monitors

2018-03-16 Thread Stephen Ostrow
Just a follow up. I've gotten some good information from this AskUbuntu
post at https://askubuntu.com/questions/875832/how-to-set-per-monitor-
scaling-on-wayland

Following these directions seem to help with certain applications (e.g.
gnome-terminal, gedit, nautilus); however, it does not work for others
(e.g. thunderbird, pidgin, google-chrome).

It apears it's an issue with XWayland.

I would further mention even though applications like nautilus look
correct, things like their context menu are blown up. I assume that some
other application is handling that (gnome?) - I'm unsure of how that
part of the rendering works.

[Bug 1745440] Re: "Apply" button is missing from Displays

2018-03-15 Thread Stephen Ostrow
I have the same issue while using

Ubuntu 17.10,
gnome-control-center 3.26.2

I'm attempting to have my laptop monitor (HP Spectrum 4k monitor) with
scale at 200% which works correctly.

And then scale my external monitors to 100%. I have two dell 1080p
monitors. When I attempt to change my external monitors to 100% the
apply button doesn't show.

If I change the primary display from the current setting of 200% to 100%
the apply button doesn't show. If I then change it back to 200% it does
show.

My bigger issue is I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to do this
through the CLI instead. Everything I see does not have a per monitor
granularity.

Note: I have currently the following enabled

gsettings set org.gnome.mutter experimental-features "['scale-monitor-
framebuffer']"

[Bug 1751894] [NEW] MX5000 Keyboard is recognized but not working

2018-02-26 Thread Stephen Ostrow
Public bug reported:

I have a Logitech MX5000 Wireless keyboard which I've been using for
many many versions of Ubuntu. I just upgraded from Linux Mint (Ubuntu
14.04) to Ubuntu 17.10 and the keyboard is no longer responding while
using the USB Dongle.

>From the looks of lsusb, lsusb -t, and lsusb -v everything is being
recognized correctly and is the same on the Ubuntu 14.04 laptop and the
Ubuntu 17.10 laptop.

I have tried the keyboard on both Wayland and Xorg versions of Ubuntu
with the same result.

[Bug 1751892] [NEW] Unable to set different Scale on different Monitors

2018-02-26 Thread Stephen Ostrow
Public bug reported:

My laptop screen is 3840x2160 while my external monitor is only
1680x1050. In order for the laptop monitor to be usable I have the
scaling set at 200 (this works wonderful). However, when I plug in my
external monitor it is scaled up to 200% as well making it unusable.

Attempting to scale one to 100 and the other 200 looks to be possible;
however, the Apply button keeps appearing and disappearing randomly with
no actual effect.

It looks like practically you can only set one scale for both monitors
even though the UI looks to be letting you do it.

I have tried this on Wayland and Xorg with similar results.

[Bug 1017556] [NEW] Brightness keyboard hotkeys do not work for the HP Pavilion dv3510nr (dv3000) in Ubuntu 12.04

Matt,
  Thanks this patch worked perfectly.

Chris,
  It depends on whether you installed from source or through a package manager;
but basically track down the file pandory.py. The command I ran looked like
the following.

patch -p0 pithos/pandora/pandora.py pandora.py.patch

[Bug 673591] Re: All IMAP Folders keep disappearing, reappear after opening Subscriptions

2011-03-04 Thread Stephen Ostrow
I'm not sure how long you've been trying it with IMAP+, but I as well
tried that a while ago thinking it solved it. But like my original
description says this happens in sporadic time periods. After using it
with IMAP+ for a little while the same behavior happened with the
folders disappearing.

[Bug 408624] Re: best_name function should be using pidgin's functionality

2011-03-01 Thread Stephen Ostrow
I don't believe that they were declined for lucid and maverick, it looks
as if they're pending. But I was thinking that it may not have been
merged into those versions because they were already out. This is the
reason I'm recommending it for natty, it is still in development.

Thank you for taking a look.

[Bug 673591] [NEW] All IMAP Folders keep disappearing, reappear after opening Subscriptions

2010-11-10 Thread Stephen Ostrow
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Since upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10, my IMAP folders under accounts
keeps disappearing. I can get them back by going to Folder -
Subscriptions and selecting the account; however, after a short period
of time they disappear again. I have attempted to completely remove the
account and all traces of it and then add it back with no difference in
the behavior.

This happens on my two accounts using Postfix+Dovecot and not with my 3
accounts using gmail.

I have also attempted to go into Subscriptions, uncheck (unsubscribe)
from all folders, save, exit, reopen evolution, go back to
Subscriptions and recheck (subscribe) to the folders. Once again they
appear for a bit and then disappear.

[Bug 408624] Re: best_name function should be using pidgin's functionality

Yes, but it looks like no one is maintaining the upstream code anymore.
All changes to this package have come from add-ons and changes in the
ubuntu package for it.

Nigel, not sure what you mean. Have you forwarded this to someone
upstream, or are you just referring to the fact that I've put in a merge
request?
