[Bug 1922336] Re: ACPI errors and USB reset loop when hot-plugging a Titan Ridge laptop into a dock (9500, TB16)

2021-06-16 Thread Steve Baker
I have some additional info (this laptop is <1wk old, I'm still
discovering behaviour). If I boot the laptop with the dock plugged in,
boltctl sees the dock and cable as connected but the attached ports and
peripherals are not visible - except for the external monitor, which
does work. If I un-plug then re-plug the dock, the port discovery
messages show in kern.log and all the peripherals/usb-hubs/etc. appear.

[Bug 1922336] Re: ACPI errors and USB reset loop when hot-plugging a Titan Ridge laptop into a dock (9500, TB16)

2021-06-15 Thread Steve Baker
Hello, I have this problem too - XPS 9500, TB16. No problems using this
dock with previous laptop (XPS 9550).

Some extra information that I didn't see mentioned is that USB storage
connected to the dock (USB-A keyfob, USB-C Samsung T5) seem to work OK,
and dock ethernet seems OK. For me, anyway. I also have a DVD-ROM
plugged in that seems OK (haven't read a disc, but I can 'eject dvd' and
the tray opens).

For me the USB mouse is the problem - it doesn't work. Every 1 min it
reconnects, works for <1 second, then stops working. Have tried front
USB3, rear USB2 & USB3 ports, all have same symptoms.

I'm on kernel 5.11, have updated TB16 firmware to 1.0.4. I dual-boot
this system with Windows, with latest drivers/FW installed. BIOS is
1.7.1.

HOpe this is helpful. I will try to assist if possible.

[Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2018-12-12 Thread Steve Baker
I'm seeing something like this on a 32bit Acer laptop - with Intel
graphics - running Kubuntu 18.04.1 - it's been doing it for quite a long
time - but it's still a current bug - I did a full apt upgrade/update
just today.

When the machine awakes from a sleep (eg with by closing and opening the
lid) the mouse cursor is gone - and the whole screen below the mouse
position is white. So as you move the mouse up and down and it covers
and uncovers the entire screen. You have no way to tell where the X
position of the mouse is - but it does seem to work and you can still
click on things.

Switching to a different virtual console and back again using Ctrl-Alt-
Fn seems to fix it...until the machine goes to sleep again.

Seems like maybe some piece of graphics state isn't being properly saved
and restored.

I can confirm same exact problems as Sergey on a computer that was once
a Dell XPS, but has been through so many upgrades, the only original
part may now be the power cord!

Uninstalling the print-manager fixed it.

2016-03-03 Thread Steve Baker
Trying to work around this for now I installed the older version on a
clean build of the server.

apt-get install multipath-tools=0.4.9-3ubuntu7
apt-mark hold multipath-tools

This seemed to behave better at first, it boots without intervention for
instance, but it still seems some services are not seeing the multipath
device when they start up, even with a dependency on remote-filesystems
in upstart.

I'm also seeing a lot of these messages as the server is booting with
the older package version:

[Bug 1547206] Re: Boot stalls on mountall "disk drive not ready" question in multipath-tools >= 0.4.9-3ubuntu7.5

2016-03-02 Thread Steve Baker
I am experiencing the same issue. I tried to work around the boot
problem by adding the nobootwait option in fstab, and the system is able
to boot that way, but I have been experiencing a plethora of issues with
other services that rely on the mounted filesystem failing
intermittently during boot.

Please let me know if I can provide any additional details to help.

[Bug 1313513] Re: mountall does not honour _netdev

2016-02-19 Thread Steve Baker
I seem to be running into this bug on a new build of 14.04.4 when using
an LVM on a multipathed ISCSI drive which I am trying to mount at
/var/lib/mysql.

I'm no upstart guru, so if there is anything I can post to help verify
if it is this bug that is causing an issue please let me know.

If I just add the 'nobootwait' option to fstab will mysql still wait
till the iscsi drive is mounted correctly?

Thanks,
Steve

As an aside, we discourage the use of the docker resource - that is why
it is in contrib.

Is there a reason why you don't want to use docker by building an image
that uses the heat-config-docker-compose hook?

2008-12-07 Thread Steve Baker
flashplugin-nonfree/intrepid uptodate 10.0.12.36ubuntu1

I'd like to think that pulseaudio doesn't let a buggy app prevent all
audio from playing. So even if the problem is with flash there is still
a robustness issue with PA.

[Bug 288093] Re: Can't play sound becuse of pulseaudio hang

2008-12-03 Thread Steve Baker
I've been experiencing this problem on a nightly basis, every morning I
need to kill and restart pulseaudio to get audio working again.

I tried shutting down firefox and pulseaudio was working the next
morning so I think its likely that the flash plugin is triggering a
pulseaudio bug.
