heh, I think that would actually be a rather difficult thing to do as the
installer basically forces a reboot on you. :-)
Actions were:
install 11.10 from usb-key onto system
pretty much accept the basic defaults the whole way.
reboot when prompted; remove usbkey.
fresh 11.10 up and working;
Sorry Gents, have been in upgrade hell on this cycle; that upgrade was
wiped this morning.
To be clear:
mkdir /run/resolvconf == is what I did
the directory /run/ already existed.
It was a completely fresh and barely used (login far enough to kick an upgrade
to precise) 11.10 system.
There won't be any logs. the install continued and trashed the system as
mentioned in the original report.
Has been completely wiped and rebuilt.

That looks like it. updated ~ 24 hours ago; and on reboot errors were outputted
that one of the fstab entries was borked.
In turn that allowed to drop to a shell; and fix.
I'd suggest the root issue was not getting enough base info from the
system as to what was wrong - that's now fixed. :-)

Similar to Christopher, and OP, had the same problem. Latest jaunty beta
updates. Two separate machines - both were upgrades from 8.04 - 8.10 -
9.04.
In my case is just ssh'ing direct into various servers vs funky bzr
imports/updates. :-)
Moving the /etc/X11/Xsession.d/90gpg-agent file away, and

and accell settings - ie painfully slow.
