I have the Dell dimension C521 and am running Feisty 7.04 I get the same
message at startup MP-BIOS bug 8254 timer not connected and I used to
get a kernel panic message as well telling me to try the noapic kernel
parameter, I don't get that bit of the message any more since I updated
the kernel

8.04: No wireless networks visible (scanable). Card detected correctly as shown
in dmesg etc...
I am not able to find the old kernel versions, hints very much appreciated how

I had the same problem with a .zip file: while I can correctly
uncompress it from the command line, the graphical interface returns an
error (wrong password). Although I can't provide the .zip file for
privacy reasons, I wanted you to know that this is not an isolated
problem.
