[Bug 574747] Re: Does not hyperlink multi-line urls

2019-10-24 Thread Tv
Here we are in 2019 and it's still broken; the second line is not
underlined or clickable, and clicking the first line opens a truncated
url. Tested with gnome-terminal and alacritty, set markers=no.

[Bug 642907] Re: failed to open VA API with NVIDIA VDPAU backend

2013-10-30 Thread Tv
For what it's worth, running 64-bit 13.10, here's what I needed to do to
get the shared library loading:

sudo ln -s nvidia_drv_video.so /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-
gnu/dri/nouveau_drv_video.so

(and then I realized nouveau doesn't do vdpau anyway currently, it
seems..)

   Microsoft has a majority market share in the new desktop PC
   marketplace. This is a bug which Ubuntu and other projects are meant
   to fix. As the philosophy of the Ubuntu Project states, Our work is
   driven by a belief that software should be free and accessible to
   all.

   Ubuntu software is free. Always was, always will be. Free software gives
 everyone the freedom to use it however they want and share with whoever they
 like. This freedom has huge benefits. At one end of the spectrum it enables
 the Ubuntu community to grow and share its collective experience and
 expertise to continually improve all things Ubuntu. At the other, we are able
 to give access to essential software for those who couldn’t otherwise afford
 it – an advantage that’s keenly felt by individuals and organisations all
 over the world.
* http://www.ubuntu.com/project/about-ubuntu/our-philosophy

   Non-free software leaves users at the mercy of the software owner and
   concentrates control over the technology which powers our society into
   the hands of a few. Additionally, proprietary software stifles
   innovation, maintains artificial scarcities, and enables malicious
   anti-features such as DRM, surveillance, and other monopolistic
   practices.

   This bug is widely evident in the PC industry.

   Steps to repeat:

   1. Visit a local PC store.
   2. Attempt to buy a machine without any proprietary software.

   What happens:

   Almost always, a majority of PCs for sale have Microsoft Windows pre-
   installed. In the rare cases that they come with a GNU/Linux operating
   system or no operating system at all, the drivers and BIOS may be
   proprietary.

   What should happen:

   A majority of the PCs for sale should include only free software.

[Bug 1229456] [NEW] Provide way to pass rootflags=degraded (for btrfs)

2013-09-23 Thread Tv
Public bug reported:

Right now, /etc/grub.d/10_linux insists on

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=rootflags=subvol=${rootsubvol}
${GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX}

and the only way for me to tell a remote box that booting with a
degraded RAID1 for a btrfs root filesystem is via

$ grep degraded /etc/default/grub
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=rootflags=subvol=@,degraded

but this is brittle because it doesn't do the ${rootsubvol} logic from
/etc/grub.d. Please provide a better way.

[Bug 771272] Re: ssh-add does not handle ECDSA keys until ssh-agent exports are manually launched

2013-09-02 Thread Tv
Tested on 13.04, still buggy. Manually running SSH_AUTH_SOCK=/tmp/ssh-
phxl1McWvuSj/agent.20832 skips gnome-keyring for ssh-agent actions, and
makes ecdsa work again -- but naturally that workaround is hard to do,
as the random parts keep changing.

[Bug 1056103] Re: no docs package / html docs

2012-10-03 Thread Tv
Comment #6 is incorrect, you don't need to install Sphinx in the
virtualenv, you just need to have the virtualenv active (so the
extensions can be found).

Here's one way to achieve that:

PYTHONPATH=`pwd`/../src/pybind ./virtualenv/bin/python /usr/bin/sphinx-
build -a -b dirhtml -d doctrees ../doc output/html

[Bug 1056070] [NEW] segfault in samba with Active Directory users

2012-09-25 Thread TV
Public bug reported:

I'm using Samba (3.6.3-2ubuntu2.3) in Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS (fresh install).
The server has joinded succesfully the Active Directory Domain.

Samba.conf global,

Samba shares with Active Directory users works fine, but i can see in
the log files  segfault :

http://paste.ubuntu.com/1226116/

I don't have these errors with linux local user. For example with
user besr it's ok.

Let me know if i can more detailed test for this issue. I have the
feeling taht this segfault cause perfomance issue, but i'm not sure yet.
Still investigating.

[Bug 1056103] Re: no docs package / html docs

2012-09-25 Thread Tv
We originally decided not to package the docs, as generating them ends
up requiring some fairly obscure packages, and we didn't want to force
everyone building ceph to install all of them. Some things like sphinx-
ditaa and asphyxiate were created from scratch, so they're not even
packaged currently.

[Bug 1048441] [NEW] gnome-terminal displays missing font glyph very poorly

2012-09-09 Thread Tv
Public bug reported:

I was wondering why some of my log lines did not contain a final closing
doublequote, if the quoted string contained some funky UTF-8. In fact,
they did -- the quote glyph was just drawn in the same space as the
font missing glyph.

Attaching a screenshot to demonstrate. Run

python -c print u'\U0000X - the X is obscured'

[Bug 809221] Re: unable to mount ceph root at boot due to stripping of trailing slashes

2012-08-07 Thread Tv
mountall calls strip_slashes for the device and the mount path. For
mount path, it makes sense. For mounting /dev/sda on something, having
/dev mounted first makes sense, and I guess for that you need
strip_slashes. Perhaps the strip slashes and that part of the dependency
logic should only trigger for bind mounts or things in /dev. A simpler
check for that might be not a remote filesystem -- you already have
is_remote, and for remote filesystems the device just isn't a local path
ever.

[Bug 809221] Re: unable to mount ceph root at boot due to stripping of trailing slashes

2012-08-07 Thread Tv
The Ceph device string can be (EBNF off the top of my head)

address = ip | hostname
mon = address [ : port ]
mons = mon [ , mons ]
dev = mons : path

For example:

1.2.3.4:/
1.2.3.4:/foo
1.2.3.4:6789:/foo
1.2.3.4,2.3.4.5:/foo
1.2.3.4:6789,2.3.4.5:/foo
1.2.3.4:6789,2.3.4.5:6789:/foo

path always begins with a slash.

And there's IPv6 support in there too.

But really, mountall should treat dev as an opaque string until proven
otherwise (is_remote gives false, etc).

I would expect installing libvirt-bin to make the host ready to run

[Bug 598743] Re: install blocked by unnecessary unmount-partition attempt

2010-11-28 Thread Tv
I had this trigger while doing an install from /dev/sda4 (USB stick
image dd'ed there) to /dev/sda3. I had prepared the partition table
beforehand, so it didn't really need everything on /dev/sda to be
unmounted.

This is going to hurt every new MacbookAir3,1 / MacbookAir3,2 owner that
tries to install Ubuntu without using a Superdrive.

[Bug 662437] [NEW] mlocate should not index ~/.Private, there's nothing of interest there

2010-10-17 Thread Tv
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mlocate

This is with mlocate 0.22.2-1ubuntu in Ubuntu 10.04.1.

I ran locate on some all-too-common search string, and was surprised to
see it list results such as:

/home/tv/.Private/ECRYPTFS_FNEK_ENCRYPTED.*

there is absolutely no value in indexing the encrypted form of those,
and it just seems like a waste of cpu/disk/whatnot.

mlocate's inflexibility is problematic.. We can't do
PRUNENAMES=ECRYPTFS_FNEK_ENCRYPTED.* as it has no clue about globbing.
PRUNEPATHS=/home/*/.Private seems equally impossible.
PRUNENAMES=Private has false positives, but it seems to be the best that
is possible, and I've confirmed it to work.

[Bug 616467] [NEW] chat history impossible to read on active channel

2010-08-11 Thread Tv
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: telepathy-idle

(this bug may belong to some UI layer that is not in telepathy-idle.deb;
I don't know Empathy well enough to tell)

Assume an IRC channel I left open overnight, with active conversation
through the night. In the morning, I want to read what happened, but the
conversation is still ongoing. Every time something happens on the
channel, the window scrolls to the end, even if I'm dragging the
scrollbar with the mouse. Thus, reading the history becomes really

[Bug 318008] [NEW] mutt crashes opening this email

2009-01-16 Thread Tv
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mutt

Put this email in a maildir (mkdir crash crash/{cur,new.tmp}, cat
crash/new/foo) and try to open it in mutt.
Mutt will crash every time, saying *** glibc detected *** mutt: double free or
corruption (!prev): 0x018e21d0 *** Most of the message is obscured by
ncurses. Running intrepid, mutt 1.5.18-4ubuntu1. Might be hard to exploit, as
glibc is explicitly triggering an abort, but still might be doable, or same bug
could cause other corruption.

[Bug 276990] Re: iwlagn causes kernel panic on 802.11n wifi

2008-10-14 Thread Tv
I can confirm that the drivers at http://www.orbit-lab.org/kernel
/compat-wireless-2.6/2008/10/compat-wireless-2008-10-01.tar.bz2 make all
my crashes go away, on my Thinkpad T61. Haven't tested with 802.11n yet,
but I had frequent crashes with just 802.11g (there was a 802.11n AP
close by, but I wasn't using it), and now I haven't had a crash in 1
hour of active file transfer.

For just iwlagn, you may want to edit the Makefile in the above tarball,
you don't need to stuff in /usr/lib. Littering is a bad habbit.

default case, and aborted with error, even if it knew how to handle the
option.

See also #204805.

This should probably be reassigned to Xorg.

[Bug 204805] Re: mplayer and vlc causes backlight to go to full brightness

2008-06-02 Thread Tv
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 201544 ***

This is pretty much the same bug as #201544, just talking about brightness
going the other way.
#201544 was reported earlier so I marked this one as duplicate.

[Bug 201544] Related to battery/on-ac?

2008-05-28 Thread Tv
Originally my T61 BIOS was set to have a dimmer backlight when on
battery power, and not even xbacklight 100% could bring it back up to
full brightness. I changed the BIOS, and now have full brightness on
battery.

Except when I run mplayer. It seems that if I run mplayer on battery, my
backlight brightness drops and stays down, and when I next run mplayer
on AC, I get the full brightness back.

This probably relates to the xv acceleration, somehow.

[Bug 201544] Re: mplayer brightness reduces on playback

2008-05-28 Thread Tv
Tested it a bit further, mplayer backend used has no effect. However, I
*can* reproduce this with just xset -dpms. So it is disabling the
DPMS, that makes the video card use the lower brightness on battery,
even when the BIOS has been set not to lower the brightness.

[Bug 136812] gutsy upgrade broke keyboard layout

2007-09-02 Thread tv
Public bug reported:

I upgraded to gutsy a week or 2 back from feisty, and I use a belgian
keyboard.

It has always worked until today, somehow yesterday's upgrade broke the
keyboard (in gnome only)
If i hit alt F1 and checked the keyboard it was azerty as it should, but in
gnome it defaulted back to us english.

A simple setting in keyboard preferences fixes it, but still, it should
not break after an upgrade.

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 70367 ***

still there in feisty though

I'm still getting the same error after selecting a gender.
$ nethack-gnome
Gdk-ERROR **: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
  serial 26525 error_code 8 request_code 62 minor_code 0
Gdk-ERROR **: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
  serial 26529 error_code 8 request_code 62 minor_code 0

still fixed by the export. but that should be unnecessary
