fmtree -K sha256digest
fmtree: line 0: unknown keyword sha256digest

the man page says under examples the exact command above.. Turns out none of 
the digests appear to be available.
according to the manpage:
 md5digest   The MD5 message digest of the file.

 sha1digest  The FIPS 160-1 (“SHA-1”) message digest of the file.

 sha256digest
 The FIPS 180-2 (“SHA-256”) message digest of the file.

 ripemd160digest
 The RIPEMD160 message digest of the file.


all of them give an error. 
the keyword cksum works!

On login to ubuntu-desktop this appears:

Error activating XKB configuration
It can happen under various circumstances:
- a bug in libxklavier library
- a bug in X server (xkbcomp, xmodmap utilities)
- X server with incompatible libxkbfile implementation

If you report this situation as a bug, please include:
- The result of xprop -root | grep XKB
- The result of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd
