[Bug 1973564] Re: File dialog doesn't return current filter in Ubuntu 20.04

2022-05-25 Thread Ted Gould
I've installed the two packages and Inkscape behaves as expected. Played
around with some other apps and I haven't noticed any ill effects.

Thank you for everyone's help in getting this fixed!

[Bug 1973564] Re: File dialog doesn't return current filter in Ubuntu 20.04

2022-05-16 Thread Ted Gould
The way that I'm testing this is with the candidate release for
Inkscape. Which is 1.2, you can grab as a snap with: snap install
--candidate inkscape.

In Inkscape if you just draw on the canvas and hit save a save dialog
will appear. There is a selector at the bottom right that adjust which
files you see, but also which format you want to save in. So if you make
your file "test.pdf" and select "Portable Document Format (*.pdf)" in
the selector you should get a PDF file. Before these patches you will
get a file "test.pdf" which is actually an SVG file. After the patches
you'll get a "test.pdf" that is actually a PDF.

Attaching a debdiff. For what ever reason this doesn't seem to fix
Inkscape. Though the D-Bus traffic is the same one 20.04 and 22.04 after
this change.

[Bug 1973564] [NEW] File dialog doesn't return current filter in Ubuntu 20.02

2022-05-15 Thread Ted Gould
Public bug reported:

The file dialog implementation doesn't return the current filter. It is
in the spec and it is fixed in newer versions of the portals. But the
1.6.0 version doesn't return it.

This is an issue for Inkscape which uses the filter to select which file
format someone wishes to save as if they override the defaults. This
works well on Ubuntu 22.04.

[Bug 1972072] [NEW] Linux does not see Macbook 6,2 drives

2022-05-07 Thread Ted
Public bug reported:

As described in this ArchLinux bug report
(https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/72734), the kernel installed on upgrade
to 22.04 is unable to see the drives on a Macbook 6,2 model. Booting to
the 5.13 kernel allows access to the hard drive again--but with the
22.04 install, that version can no longer use the mouse or wireless. It
looks like there was a bug introduced upstream in one of the 5.15
kernels.

Our keyboard include multi device

HID Mouse
TEX Electronics April 23, 9:32 AM CST
HID Keyboard

I am trying to contact Tex Shinobi support about the error above. I am
thinking the keyboard has an internal usb hub.

[Bug 1872984] Re: RTL8822BE [10ec:b822] network driver rtl_wifi crashes on boot in Focal Fossa 20.04 - 5.4.0-21-generic and mainline 5.7.0-050700rc1-generic

2022-03-24 Thread Ted Kent
This is present on ASUS K570U-ES76

OS:Ubuntu 20.04.4
Kernel: 5.13.0-35-generic

- Device will drop wifi and then spam "rtw_8822be pci bus timeout,check dma
status" in the logs
- Rebooting fixes issue

This is a fairly old laptop and with the wifi 6 modules being >$20 I'll
probably just go for the upgrade.

[Bug 1922464] Re: GNOME 40: GTK3 apps crash with: Settings schema 'org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.xsettings' does not contain a key named 'antialiasing'

2022-03-05 Thread Ted Gould
In our case we're not using either of the gnome snaps but just the
distro packages. We trust @seb128 more than those crazy snap people ;-)

I imagine that the fix for Inkscape is to switch to core22, which will
grab the newer GTK3. The next release for Inkscape is roughly aligned
with when 22.04 is likely to ship. My intention is to start looking at
switching to see if I can get it done before that release.

[Bug 1791143] Re: Suggestion to make zfsutils-linux a snap

2022-03-01 Thread Ted Cabeen
I would strongly discourage putting zfs-utils into a snap. I expect
many systems admins running zfs storage arrays do not install snapd, and
would be loathe to do so.

[Bug 1922464] Re: GNOME 40: GTK3 apps crash with: Settings schema 'org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.xsettings' does not contain a key named 'antialiasing'

The problem is that snaps that are built on focal don't work on GNOME
40. So in my case I'm concerned about Inkscape, but most Electron apps
will fall into the same boat.

[Bug 1937131] Re: produces invalid musexml and lilypond output

2021-07-22 Thread Ted Felix
Thanks for the bug report. I'm going to do a little analysis and move
this over to upstream's bug tracker.

https://sourceforge.net/p/rosegarden/bugs/

I will post a followup with the bug number.

It's not likely we'll get around to fixing this anytime soon as we
barely have the equivalent of one full-time developer working on the
project.

This test F-hwe-5.8 / G-5.8 kernel fixes the issue:

The latest automatically updated kernel (5.8.0-55-generic) does not fix

[Bug 1931021] [NEW] Focal (20.04): IR Remote Keys Repeat Many Times Starting with Kernel 5.8.0-49

2021-06-07 Thread Ted L
Public bug reported:

The bug reported at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1926030 affects
Focal (20.04).

I use an IR remote with the ir-keytable package. Everything was working
fine until kernel 5.8.0-49 was automatically installed by Software
Updater on Ubuntu 20.04.2. When any key is pressed on the remote, the
key is repeated about 500 times. The kernel is now 5.8.0-50, and the
problem persists.

Other users on the MythTV mailing list are reporting the issue, and it
appears that the problem is related to changes in the following files:

drivers/media/rc/ir-mce_kbd-decoder.c
drivers/media/rc/rc-main.c b/drivers/media/rc/rc-main.c
drivers/media/rc/serial_ir.c

It has been reported that reverting the ir-mce_kbd-decoder.c and rc-
main.c files to the older versions fixes the problem.

To all,

I’m not a coder. I’m an end user. I’m a network engineer. The reason I
found the bug is that our team has about 20 servers all running ubuntu
server with multiple NICs in each deployed throughout our Data Centers
as tools boxes to test and troubleshoot various network issues.

[Bug 1926030] Re: IR Remote Keys Repeat Many Times Starting with Kernel 5.8.0-49

2021-04-26 Thread Ted L
I emailed Matthias R and asked him to take a look at this bug report.
According to his reply in comment #20 above, the fix was successfully
applied to kernel 5.10 but should not have been backported since the
problem did not exist in kernels < 5.10. A user on the MythTV forum is
successfully using kernel 5.10 with an IR remote with no issue. The
problem in focal affecting many people occurred due to LP #1918516 as
referenced in Kernel SRU Workflow 1921052 (https://bugs.launchpad.net
/kernel-sru-workflow/+bug/1921052). Thanks for anything that can be
done to fix this.

[Bug 1925964] Re: HP NC364T NIC with 20.04.2 LTS Issues

2021-04-26 Thread Ted Hannock
I tried to run the apport-collect 1925964 in the terminal window that
opened up Links 2.20.2 browser, but I did not see any way to hit the
confirm. I entered my Ubuntu One ID and password and it didn't present
me with the confirm option.

The bug is Confirmed as an issue. I have the same card deployed in
almost 20 bare metal server installations and the card work perfectly in
18.04.X LTS. Now in 20.04.2 LTS, no love.

[Bug 1926030] Re: IR Remote Keys Repeat Many Times Starting with Kernel 5.8.0-49

2021-04-25 Thread Ted L
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  I use an IR remote with the ir-keytable package. Everything was working
  fine until kernel 5.8.0-49 was automatically installed by Software
  Updater on Ubuntu 20.04.2. When any key is pressed on the remote, the
  key is repeated about 500 times. The kernel is now 5.8.0-50, and the
  problem persists.

  Other users on the MythTV mailing list are reporting the issue, and it
  appears that the problem is related to changes in the following files:

  drivers/media/rc/ir-mce_kbd-decoder.c
  drivers/media/rc/rc-main.c b/drivers/media/rc/rc-main.c
  drivers/media/rc/serial_ir.c

  It has been reported that reverting the ir-mce_kbd-decoder.c and rc-
  main.c files to the older versions fixes the problem.

[Bug 1925964] [NEW] HP NC364T NIC with 20.04.2 LTS Issues

2021-04-23 Thread Ted Hannock
Public bug reported:

This NIC is a 4 Port Copper 1GB Intel 82571B/82571GB Gigabit Ethernet
Controller with a Dual Chipset where each Chipset controls 2 ports each
(ie (1 Chipset - 2 Ports) * 2). In the latest 20.04.2 LTS, the OS is
mapping the ports incorrectly, causing only 2 of the 4 total ports to be
allocated via DMESG:

[Bug 1917142] [NEW] Thunderbird Task "Show" filtering broken

2021-02-27 Thread Ted Felix
Public bug reported:

Thunderbird in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS was just upgraded to 78.7.1.
Unfortunately, that version has a bug which renders Tasks unusable for
those of us who depend on recurring tasks. Completed tasks keep coming
back to life on restart of Thunderbird. This results in incessant
reminders for tasks that were completed months and months ago.

The upstream bug report is here:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1686466

Bug 1686466: Task "Show" filtering broken in 78.6.1 - recurring tasks
are all being marked incomplete

Thunderbird version 78.8.0 has the fix. Hopefully an upgrade to that
version can be expedited.

[Bug 1906770] Re: Kernel 5.4.0-56 Wi-Fi does not connect

2020-12-12 Thread Ted R Marcus
I tried two other Wi-Fi adapters with 5.4.0-58. Both are made by TPLINK
but use different chipsets: Realtek RTL8192EU and Atheros AR9271. Both
were able to connect successfully to a 2.4GHz 802.11n network.

When I tried the Netgear A6210 adapter (Mediatek MT7612U chipset) again,
it would not complete a connection as I described earlier. Since the
default connection with this adapter is a 5GHz 802.11ac network, I tried
switching to the 2.4GHz 802.11n network to which two TPLINK adapters
successfully connected. That froze the desktop, requiring a restart. A
second attempt after restart also froze the desktop. Reverting to
5.4.0-54 with the Netgear adapter successfully connected to the 5GHz
802.11ac network.

This behavior suggests that the problem is with the kernel driver for
the Mediatek MT7612U chipset, and possibly others per J.B. (brngr)'s
comment.

[Bug 1907729] [NEW] pycodestyle error E741 in source

2020-12-10 Thread Ted Kern
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
pycodestyle error E741 appears when pycodestyle is updated to support Python
3.8 as in focal (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-flake8/+bug/1883175). These
style errors are preventing an SRU of flake8, pyflakes, and pycodestyle.

[Regression Potential]
Extremely limited, only a few local variables are changed, expanded out to non
single character names.

Patch is backported from git commit af10962

[Bug 1906770] [NEW] Kernel 5.4.0-56 Wi-Fi does not connect

2020-12-03 Thread Ted R Marcus
Public bug reported:

After updating to 5.4.0-56 (generic) on Mint 19.3, Wi-Fi cannot complete
connection to network with Netgear A6210 USB adapter (Mediatek MT7612U
chipset). Network manager can see available networks, but attempting to
connect to a network stalls on "connecting" and does not complete
connection. Reverting to 5.4.0-54 solves problem. I did not see this
problem after updating to 5.4.0-56 on a 10-year-old Toshiba Satellite
laptop (also Mint 19.3), so it appears related to the Netgear/Mediatek
hardware.

ip6tables from iptables-nft to iptables-legacy. At least things function
now. (I'm using docker.io and putting RKE's Kubernetes on top of it).

It appears that workaround allows the networking to properly work, and
also implies that Docker is manipulating the tables using some other
method than /usr/sbin/iptables (confirmed in the moby ticket below).

I tried starting dockerd with iptables=false, but Kubernetes really
needs thorough networking to function.

[Bug 1883175] Re: missing support for python3.8 language features

2020-10-05 Thread Ted Kern
New patches posted with correctly formatted changelog.

Failures:
budgie-extras/1.0.2-0ubuntu1 (arm64, amd64, armhf, i386, ppc64el, s390x)
update-manager/1:20.04.10.1 (arm64, amd64, armhf, ppc64el, s390x)
ubuntu-release-upgrader/1:20.04.23 (arm64, amd64, armhf, ppc64el, s390x)

Are all related to code style errors caught by the updated linter. These
are not regressions.

Failures:
python-b2sdk/1.0.2-1 (armhf)
update-manager/1:20.04.10.1 (armhf)
mu-editor/1.0.2+dfsg-4build1 (amd64)

python-b2sdk failure is due to a segfault after its test suite has completed,
not related to this update
update-manager is again the same style error as above
mu-editor appears to be a timeout, likely a transient failure

Failures:
elpy/1.32.0-2 (amd64)

Are transient (timeout in profiling), a manual re-run succeeded
https://autopkgtest.ubuntu.com/packages/e/elpy/focal/amd64

  Use python3 language features, e.g.
  ```
  test.py:1:10: E231 missing whitespace after ':'
  `echo $?` shows a return value of 1
  With the 3.8.3-1 version of the package proposed for Groovy
[Bug 1883175] Re: missing support for python3.8 language features
2020-06-30 Thread Ted Kern
** Description changed:
  Python 3.8 language features include some syntax that python3-flake8
  3.7.9-2 registers as an error.
  flake8 3.8.x is now available on PyPi, released after Focal. The minor
  version matches the supported python version, so a release from the
  3.8.x series should be ported to Focal.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Create a file test.py
+ Use python3 language features, e.g.
+ ```
+ while (a := float(input())) < 10 :
+ print(f'{a=} is too much!')
+ print(f'{a=} works fine')
+ ```
+ Run `python3 -m flake8 test.py`
+
+ Result:
+ "pyflakes" failed during execution due to "'FlakesChecker' object has no
attribute 'NAMEDEXPR'"
+ Run flake8 with greater verbosity to see more details
+ test.py:1:9: E203 whitespace before ':'
+ test.py:1:10: E231 missing whitespace after ':'
+
+ `echo $?` shows a return value of 1
+
+ With the 3.8.3-1 version of the package proposed for Groovy
+ (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/python-flake8/3.8.3-1) `test.py`
+ produces no output and returns 0
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Potential is minimal as this is a minor version bump, which upstream defines
as only offering additional, optional checks and not breaking backward
compatibility. No reported breakages between 3.7.9 and 3.8.3 are shown in
upstream issue tracker.
+
+ Upstream QA:
+ https://flake8.pycqa.org/en/latest/internal/releases.html#process
+ outlines the required tests a release must pass, all of which completed
+ in https://gitlab.com/pycqa/flake8/-/pipelines/154124695
[Bug 1880419] Re: yaml-cpp-config.cmake has incorrect path to yaml-cpp include directory
2020-05-30 Thread Ted Steiner
Would it be possible to get this fix applied to Ubuntu 20.04 as well?
