[Bug 1745009] [NEW] After installing a pile of emacs packages and restarting I get this: {package emacs25-lucid (not installed) [modified: usr/share/emacs/25.2/etc/DOC] failed to install/upgrade: subp

2018-01-23 Thread The Geeko
Public bug reported:

I got my emacs system unusable... so I un-installed and re-installed the
whole emacs systems with a plethora of add-on packages.

I used synaptic for the installation. Before installing the packages, I
had "geeked" emacs... and, finding that it could not start in graphics
mode, I performed some "down-n-dirty" removal because synaptic was
seeing evidence of it being installed (ignoring that it would only start
in text mode)...

I finally got the system in a state of synaptic allowing me to install
it. I used the "should not try this at work" technique of going into
/var/lib/dpkg/status and removed "emacs-lucid" from the file. Only
then, was I able to completely re-install emacs. So, I'm sure there was
some residue left. I was unsure of how to resolve my problem without
the brute-force approach that I used.

For those wanting a quality version, you may find it here:

After 4 years, it's obvious that this is not a priority for Canonical...

[Bug 835289] Re: [NV55S, Realtek ALC271X, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2011-08-28 Thread The Geeko
After exploring the Ubuntu community support site, I found this
excellent resource:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshootingProcedure. I
followed the steps and voilà! A working sound system...

This bug was apparently a user bug... I must've done somethin' wrong
somewhere sometime... Anyway, this is no bug for anyone to be wasting
her time on!
