2024-04-06 Thread Thorsten Glaser
The (proper) fix is now included in the current packages, but t64
bootstrapping is a bit difficult.

When Vladimir promotes
https://launchpad.net/~vpa1977/+archive/ubuntu/bootstrap-openjdk-
lts/+sourcepub/15913967/+listing-archive-extra to noble-proposed, that
one can then be used to build 8u402-ga-8 which I just uploaded to
Debian, which can be sync-requested.

Then, backported versions of that to focal include the coïnstallability
fix while not breaking due to lack of a11y on focal/i386.

[Bug 2060257] [NEW] Please sync mksh 59c-37 from Debian sid (main)

2024-04-05 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

This change is not a feature change. It deals with adding entries in
/usr/bin/ to /etc/shells to match the entries in /bin because graphical
privilege escalation tools can otherwise get the wrong path due to
usrmerge and deny operation. It additionally enables more executables
built as position-independent code (only on architectures where I tested
this).

I’ve uploaded that to Debian and tested it on my PPA as well (modulo
armhf, which I believe is waiting for the debugedit rebuilt against
libelf1t64 to leave proposed and enter a pocket which the Launchpad
buildds actually use).

d/changelog for the delta:

mksh (59c-37) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Limit musl static-PIE to architectures it is known to work
(see #1068350 and even #1068302)

 -- Thorsten Glaser Fri, 05 Apr 2024 02:33:34 +0200

mksh (59c-36) unstable; urgency=low

  * Fix two typos in musl static-pie support check, improve diagnostics

 -- Thorsten Glaser Wed, 03 Apr 2024 12:25:23 +0200

mksh (59c-35) unstable; urgency=low

  * Update from CVS HEAD:
- improvements to mbsd{cc,int}.h, mostly portability
- put a message behind #ifdef DEBUG
- improved fallback for missing rlim_t
- FAQ update
- avoid uint8_t in printf.c favouring “unsigned char” explicitly
  * Use munged specs file for #1050429 workaround, drop gcc-12 B-D
  * Install /usr/bin-based (nōn-canonical) pathnames into /etc/shells
on systems with a broken filesystem layout (Closes: #1063905)
  * loong64 musl became available as well

 -- Thorsten Glaser Tue, 02 Apr 2024 16:32:00 +0200

I believe the changes to the upstream portion of the package in -35 to be
unproblematic, they mostly deal with things like the OpenWatcom compiler or
better C++ support in a supporting library (mksh does not use C++).

I’m just a Debian Developer, so this needs sponsoring.

Hi again Vladimir,

I did upload a -6 today to temporarily disable the tests to help the ARM
builders across the transition better, so you can also do a sync, I
believe.

Disclaimer: I haven’t tested that on Ubuntu, only Debian, and not yet on
t64-affected architectures (but the powerpc buildds should pick it up
shortly; I was unable to make the armel and armhf ones meet the
prerequisites because the main archive is more strict in which porter
uploads it accepts than debian-ports are).

as well. I’m not uploading this as openjdk-8_8u402-ga-5 to Debian right
now as it does not affect Debian and we have the t64 transition still
going on and I want to keep buildd load down, but you can consider this
as released and use it; I’ll ensure the next upload will have a larger
version.

8u402-ga-4 actually, but first we have to check if Ubuntu indeed stays

to libcups2t64 (in which case another change is needed). 8u402-ga-3 had

2024-03-01 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Hi Roman,

Vladimir Petko and I found a solution that retains coïnstallability: on
i386 for focal‥mantic, we fake having the wrapper (as in, all on-disc
files are identical to amd64), but we don’t add the dependency and add a
patch to change the exception to a warning for i386 only.

I’ll upload to Debian once the time_t-64 transition is progressed; you
can Sync then.

Perhaps because this has absolutely *nothing* to do with the Debian
Multimedia Team, *and* because you seem to not understand the problem,
and the instructions (delete the now-redundant source package) are clear
and easy to do.

>A source package is required to make a binary dummy transition package

But we don’t *NEED* a binary transition package. None. Zero. Nada.
Keins. нет.

We *just* need the source package removed.

According to the documentation, only Ubuntu developers may do that
directly.

> What *should* happen here is that musescore should become a
transitional dummy package to musescore3 and not completely removed.

No, this is about the *source* package, not the binary package.

The binary packages musescore and musescore-common are now built from
src:musescore2 and the binary packages musescore3 and musescore3-common
are built from src:musescore3 so this is really about removing
src:musescore only, as it’s a source package with no binary packages.

[Bug 1903793] [NEW] rng-tools: should become a transitional package, like in Debian, but to rng-tools5

2020-11-10 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

In Debian, I just made rng-tools a transitional package to fix the bad
situation between rng-tools, rng-tools-debian and rng-tools5:
https://packages.qa.debian.org/r/rng-tools/news/2020T024143Z.html

It is clear that, past the next release (that is, in bookworm) there
will be only rng-tools-debian (2.x) and rng-tools5 (6.x at least, by
then). Ubuntu should track both rng-tools-debian and rng-tools5 from
Debian. I’ll remove rng-tools between bullseye and bookworm (and Ubuntu
currently does not track rng-tools from Debian anyway).

The rng-tools package itself is more tricky. It is what users coming
from older releases will have installed. In Debian, it always was
version 2.x, so I transitioned it to rng-tools-debian. In Ubuntu,
however, rng-tools 5.x was shipped for multiple releases, so it should
become a transitional package towards there, and eventually (after the
next LTS released with that change) entirely removed. Anything of worth
currently in Ubuntu’s version of rng-tools should be forwarded to
Debian’s rng-tools5 package and merged there, so it can be just Sync’d
into Ubuntu.

[Bug 1903793] Re: rng-tools: should become a transitional package, like in Debian, but to rng-tools5

2020-11-10 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Background on why rng-tools-debian exists:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rng-tools/+bug/1333293

Basically, Debian carried massive delta against upstream for years which
was never merged but which is so crucial many users rely on it, and
upstream’s version comes nowhere near its functionality. If one doesn’t
need these features (or has a modern/high-bitrate HWRNG) one’s better
with upstream’s 5.x/6.x version, otherwise one must use rng-tools-debian
instead. This “castling move” was recommended to me in that bugreport
linked.

tl;dr: Yes, we do need both.

[Bug 1871097] [NEW] Please sync jupp 3.1.39-1 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2020-04-06 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

Hi,

as Debian import freeze is currently enacted, I’d love for the latest
version of this leaf package (interactive TUI text editor) to be sync’d
into the LTS release. I’m both upstream and the Debian maintainer and
would prefer for this release to be the one to support for a longer
time.

Changes are:

jupp (3.1.39-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Drop “IDE” .desktop category, it creates mismatched menu entries
  * Update maintainer script comments from latest manpages
  * New upstream release
  * Modernise packaging

Notable upstream changes:

- Highlight HTML/XHTML and XML with content sniffing as well
- Improve shell highlighting substitution quoting handling
- Highlight more Tₑχ/LᴬTᴇΧ extensions
- Update to UCD 13.0.0

Especially the Unicode update (from 11.0.0) could be useful, but the
rest is welcomed by users.

[Bug 1869833] [NEW] Please sync mksh 58-1 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2020-03-30 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

As indicated in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mksh/+bug/1867459 (the
previous sync request during DebianImportFreeze), I’ve just released a
new upstream version of mksh, which is virtually identical to what we
already shipped in 57-7 in Debian, just rolling up the changes into a
release, plus these new changes:

mksh (58-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release
- [tg] Improve code […] correctness
- [multiplexd] Add vi mode PgDn, similar to PgUp doing history search
- [tg] Build.sh fixup unreliable test -n / -z
- [multiplexd] Correct documentation of vi mode @c
- [tg] Update to UCD 13.0.0
- [tg] Use nanoseconds in test -nt / -ot (LP#1855325)
  * Work around debhelper issue #908845 (Niels Thykier)
  * Update lintian overrides

 -- Thorsten Glaser Fri, 27 Mar 2020 12:59:25 +0100

With my Debian Developer hat on, the benefit is having all these changes
from 57-1 to 57-7 in the origtgz and a very minimal Debian diff. The
package is leaf and has autopkgtests and an extensive testsuite, so the
risk is minimal.

With my upstream hat on, I’d prefer to have a formal release shipped for
LTS.

[Bug 1867459] [NEW] Please sync mksh 57-7 (universe) from Debian sid (main)

2020-03-14 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

A roll-up of a couple of bugfixes (this is almost identical to the
upcoming new upstream release), but, more importantly, introduction of
autopkgtests. I’d prefer these fixes to be in focal due to LTS, and
especially as mksh 58 will be very close to this code, have the chance
at an update if it gets released before hard freeze.

As DebianImportFreeze is active (as far as I can tell, anyway), here’s
an explicit sync request. It’s, as far as I can tell, a leaf package in
Ubuntu, so has low risk.

[Bug 1867457] [NEW] Please sync rs 20200313-1 (universe) from Debian sid (main)

2020-03-14 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

I’ve just fixed some bugs upstream in rs (mostly by rebasing on top of
OpenBSD’s latest) and modernised the Debian packaging (debhelper 12,
autopkgtests, etc). Those bugs were reported by a user on Ubuntu.

As DebianImportFreeze is active (as far as I can tell, anyway), here’s
an explicit sync request. It’s a sufficiently low-used leaf package, so
the risk should be minimal, and there’s now autopkgtests anyway (in
addition to the test run during build time).

There are no Ubuntu changes to rs currently.

[Bug 1820092] [NEW] Please sync pax (1:20190224-1) from Debian buster/testing (main)

2019-03-14 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

Should be easy, there are no Ubuntu changes, just the import of the
latest Debian version is missing.

As this fixes an only haphazardly patched security issue with a proper
fix including proper autoconf-like detection, this release is urgent.

[Bug 1820094] [NEW] Please sync mksh (57-1) from Debian buster/testing (main)

2019-03-14 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

Should be easy, there are no Ubuntu changes, just the import of the
latest Debian version is missing.

This is mostly a rollup release replacing accumulated Debian patches
with a new upstream version collecting all fixes that have piled up in
the last year or so, thus of priority nice-to-have and more easily
supportable.

[Bug 1333293] Re: version and parameter divergence from Debian

2018-12-10 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Putting the Launchpad bug into Cc.

-- Forwarded message --
Message-ID:
Date: Mon, 10 Dec 2018 18:23:56 +0100 (CET)
Subject: rng-tools: replaced with inferior version

Source: rng-tools
Version: 5-1
Severity: serious
Justification: breaks existing uses of this package

This is the same as Launchpad bug #1333293 now arrived
in Debian itself.

The options (at least) -B, -H, -T, -t are gone, which
breaks my application using rngd.

I had to create this…
https://launchpad.net/~mirabilos/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+sourcepub/4628516/+listing-archive-extra
… in order to be able to continue using rngd as before.

Will we be reintroducing rng-tools 2.x as rng-tools-debian
into Debian buster/sid? Otherwise, support for all those
missing functionality and options MUST be added to the
new rng-tools package.

Thanks,

OK, then it’s not a bug. Please use a proper Unix filesystem.

I even looked at the part of the source code in question and verified
it’s correct, so the problem comes from your NTFS.

[Bug 1800792] Re: Update to 8u181-b13-1ubuntu0.18.04.1 breaks Maven builds

2018-11-02 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Hi Martijn,

this has not been fixed in Debian, it affects openjdk-8 and openjdk-10
there.

As far as has been analysed to date, this is caused by a new, stricter,
JAR check that went from OpenJDK to Debian/*buntu’s Java 10 and 8 (but
not Debian’s Java 11), missing that the new check should be disabled by
default (probably “for now”).

See also: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SUREFIRE-1588

There, we’re trying to get the maven-surefire-plugin working with the
new stricter check. It only hits Debian/*buntu for now, but given that
the new check exists upstream (even if disabled for now), it’ll
eventually hit everyone.

MagicPoint no longer uses dlopen() and was rebuilt from source, so the
original bug is gone.

You’re pointing out a couple of things in the comments which may or may
not have been separate bugs, but with the recent upload of
1.13a+upstream20090219-9 ought to be gone as well, for the actual
software bugs. I’ll deal with the font stuff later.

Works for me (and this is not a user support channel, but a package
bugreport one).

Basically, you have to select the entire note, not just the noteheads
(round things). Shift-click is the devise. I’m attaching a screencast of
how it works.

[Bug 1761272] [NEW] Please sync musescore-sftools 20180325-1 (universe) and fluidr3mono-gm-soundfont 2.315-4 (universe) from Debian testing (main)

2018-04-04 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

Hi! I’m the Debian maintainer (DD) of the aforementioned two packages,
and coordinating MuseScore in Debian and the official MuseScore PPA as
upstream contributor.

Please grant an FFe and sync at least musescore-sftools, at best also
fluidr3mono-gm-soundfont. Justification below:

You recently (on 2018-03-19) sync’d musescore-sftools 20180222-2 and
fluidr3mono-gm-soundfont 2.315-2 together with the latest musescore
2.1.0+dfsg3-3 from Debian. (Thanks for that.)

However, musescore-sftools 20180222 was a first cut of it to get things
rolling in Debian due to the DFSG-freeness issues of the soundfont. It
contains one tool, whose upstream name was “sfconvert”, but there is
already an sfconvert in audiofile-tools in Debian. I renamed it to
“musescore-sfconvert” and immediately contacted upstream, and it was
agreed to rename to “sf3convert” because they did not like making the
name specific to musescore.

That was on about 2018-03-13. I knew an Ubuntu release was approaching,
but I figured that it was too late for this to land as new packages,
anyway, so I decided against uploading this to Debian immediately (using
patches) but wait for upstream to merge the pull requests, and then
upload a new version without any Debian-specific patches.

However, upstream was extremeliest busy with the new MuseScore 2.2
release scheduled for end of March and so only merged my PRs on
2018-03-25. I uploaded this to Debian, as well with fluidr3mono-gm-
soundfont 2.315-3 that used the new name of the binary package and the
included binary.

Please sync the newer musescore-sftools source package; it is
functionally identical to the previous one (except the reproducible-
builds patch now must be enabled by the -S option), but the binary and
manpage have been renamed.

To add a bit of “fun”, upstream also decided to change the name of their
“new” soundfont (not yet having passed ftpmaster NEW in Debian) roughly
at the same time I was making the upload, so I immediately pushed
fluidr3mono-gm-soundfont 2.315-4 with the new name.

The reason we are going to need this is: fluidr3mono-gm-soundfont
installs itself as FluidR3Mono_GM.sf3, but it *also* installs a symlink
from MuseScore_General.sf3 (instead of MS_General.sf3 as in earlier
versions) to that, which is the name of the soundfont expected from
MuseScore 2.2 onwards, because it’s upwards compatible (the new
soundfont is a fork of fluidr3ono). The Debian packaging for ms_general
then diverts that symlink out of the way while installing itself.

The new version of MuseScore depends on fluidr3mono-gm-soundfont (>>
2.315-4~) because of that (with an alternative depends on the new
soundfont, not packaged yet).

So, to avoid users having to download 2.315-4 from a PPA additionally,
and for upwards compatibility with newer MuseScore versions (from PPA)
for bionic for the next couple of years, this is needed. (It also builds
reproducibly by using the new -S option, and uses a dpkg-builddeb option
to allow for distributions as long back as precise to install the binary
.deb file.)

So, please sync the newer version of the soundfont, as well.

There are no Ubuntu changes (I was surprised it had managed to slip into Ubuntu
already, in the first place, so someone must already have granted a debian
import sync exception).

There is no upstream changelog. I will add a git log from musescore-sftools,
though.
I’ve uploaded both to my PPA for bionic (unchanged save for the extra changelog

This should satisfy the “build log” question, and “install log” for
musescore-sftools as it’s used to compile the soundfont.

“The default configuration is that this "motd-news" feature is enabled

“a useful feature” by the author of the LWN article, and in this
bugreport.

In the Debian world, we call this a phone-home privacy violation which
is a security-relevant release-critical bug and an absolute MUST NOT.

Sure, I do follow derivates-bugs in the BTS.

I do not wish to drop the compression override because I use this in an
extremely uncommon way for something else as well (basically, I extract the
.deb in other environments to get the PDFs which require a full Teχlive to
build when it’s not feasible to port Teχ to the other environment).

I don’t know dpkg/perl well enough to comment on that patch
unfortunately, but thanks anyway.

[Bug 56764] Re: Unable to create files larger than 2GB

2016-11-21 Thread Thorsten Glaser
It’s documented in the package description, as this is a packaging
issue, not a bug in the program:

 .
Note that ACLs and Extended Attributes are not supported.
Also, on Debian GNU/Hurd and Debian GNU/Linux (but not
Debian GNU/kFreeBSD), size of archive members is limited
to the width of the "long" type, that is, 2 GiB on platforms
that do not have a 64-bit "long" type, due to a bug in the
 GNU C library (Debian #317466).

Other limitations are documented in paxcpio(1):

CAVEATS
Different file formats have different maximum file sizes. It is recom‐
mended that a format such as cpio or ustar be used for larger files.

   File formatMaximum file size
   ar 10 Gigabytes - 1 Byte
   bcpio 4 Gibibytes
   sv4cpio4 Gibibytes
   cpio 8 Gibibytes
   tar8 Gibibytes
   ustar 8 Gibibytes

These are inherent to the archive format and cannot be changed at all.

2016-07-24 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Fix committed – please do try CVS HEAD; if this doesn’t help, I will
require full build logs.

Removing from the Ubuntu package, as it’s not affected by this issue;
adding the upstream package.

With the last code, Build.sh (triggered by mksrc.sh in Android) will
recognise LLVM/Clang automatically and set CPPFLAGS accordingly to not
use our own string pooling but to rely on the compiler’s instead.

Arrgh, stupid compilers, trying to be too smart and utterly failing.
I’ve recently had “fun” with newer GCC versions and those string
pooling macros, TWICE. I already decided to remove them, but for
now I’ve added GCC workarounds… turns out Clang is just as bad.

Yes, I’ll tackle this for the next release, thank you for the report.

For the record: this is both compiler-specific (there’s no direct
use of __attribute__ in the code, and there must not be any use
that can’t be done with other compilers either) and insecure. DO
NOT DO THAT. Those strings are actually format strings and treated
as such.

[Bug 1560008] [NEW] Please merge mksh 52c-1 (main) from Debian testing (main)

2016-03-21 Thread Thorsten Glaser
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mksh, pdksh

Please merge the latest version of src:mksh from Debian (it already
migrated to testing). This also finally removes the “pdksh” transitional
package, the transition having been done for *buntu in trusty.

I’ll add changelogs, debdiffs, etc. once I have them.

** Affects: mksh (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
