[Bug 200509] Re: iwl4965: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x2000000

2010-04-22 Thread Tobias McNulty
I forgot to mention, I'm running 9.10 (Karmic) and my kernel is up to
date:

Linux red 2.6.31-20-generic #58-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 12 04:38:19 UTC 2010

[Bug 200509] Re: iwl4965: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting 0x2000000

2010-04-22 Thread Tobias McNulty
I have the following controller in a ThinkPad T400s:

03:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN
[Shiloh] Network Connection

When I try to connect to a P2P network I get loads and loads of these in
dmesg:

[  622.045142] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::radio
[  622.045185] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::assoc
[  622.045226] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::RX
[  622.045263] Registered led device: iwl-phy0::TX
[ 622.107866] iwlagn :03:00.0: Microcode SW error detected. Restarting
0x200.

It takes forever to connect and sometimes fails completely. When it
fails, all other bets are off and I have to reboot before I regain usage
of the card. reloading the module might work too but i haven't tried
that yet.

[Bug 425411] Re: Computer suspends immediately after resuming if power is unplugged while suspended

2010-01-03 Thread Tobias McNulty
I have a similar problem on a Lenovo ThinkPad T400s. If I unplug the
machine while it's asleep, it just freezes outright on resume. I can
see the login screen, but the mouse and keyboard don't function, and the
I bar (text entry cursor) is not blinking per usual.

The resolution described in comment #47 seems to fix the issue for me
(though I'm not exactly sure what it does).

I'm running a fully up to date copy of Karmic.

** Summary changed:

- Computer suspends immediately after resuming if power is unplugged while
suspended

2010-01-03 Thread Tobias McNulty
I should also say that on my T60 I see the behavior that everyone else
describes (computer suspends itself immediately after resuming).

[Bug 475749] Re: no sound on ibm thinkpad t60 ubuntu karmic

2009-11-27 Thread Tobias McNulty
I installed from scratch on my Thinkpad T60 and I have no sound either.
Everything seems in order in the Sound preferences but I can't get the
computer to make so much as a peep. I also get no errors when I try to
play music or sounds.

This is a big deal for me, please advise! Am happy to help debug, if
possible.

[Bug 120375] Re: cannot boot raid1 with only one disk

2009-08-15 Thread Tobias McNulty
Yeah, isn't 8.04 an LTS edition?

My 8.04 Desktop machine suffers from this problem. I think I got it
fixed by adding the command to assemble the arrays degraded to the
initramfs 'local' script, but finding what needed to be done was a real
PITA and I'm sure others will continue to hit this issue.

Can't we get a fix in 8.04?

[Bug 136252] Re: [gutsy] mdadm, initramfs missing ARRAY lines

2008-09-29 Thread Tobias McNulty
Hey, I set the HOMEHOST line in my mdadm.conf and it worked like a
charm. Thanks so much for posting this. BTW this seems to be a
duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mdadm/+bug/226484

When can we get a fix to this released? This is pretty unacceptable
behavior, and there are all sorts of theories circulating out there as
to why it doesn't work (it took me several a couple hours to get to this
page).

[Bug 173722] Re: [Gutsy] Suspend fails on Lenovo Thinkpad T60p w/ ATI Mobility

2007-12-10 Thread Tobias McNulty
I'm posting a comment here as requested by Leann's recent comment on bug
#33372. I have a ThinkPad T60 that still fails to resume from suspend
with the Gutsy kernel. I'm using the vesa driver, not fglrx. The
computer goes to sleep fine, but when I hit the power button to resume,
the fan comes back on, but the display stays off and the sleep light
stays on. This works fine with both the Feisty and Hardy kernels.

It's kind of a pain to debug, because I have to power cycle the machine
when it doesn't resume, but I can help debug this problem further if
that means we get a working kernel. Thanks for looking at this; the
suspend feature is crucial for anyone who actually uses Linux on a
laptop.

Thinkpad T60 users can use bug #173722 to discuss this problem. I've
done the testing requested by Leann and posted the results there.

[Bug 173722] Re: [Gutsy] Suspend fails on Lenovo Thinkpad T60p w/ ATI Mobility

2007-12-10 Thread Tobias McNulty
Suspend is also broken using fglrx with the 2.6.22 kernel. However,
fglrx works with the 2.6.20 kernel. I don't expect this comes as a
surprise to anyone, but I thought I'd mention that it is indeed still
the case. On a side note, what is the problem with this? I thought ATI
release the source code for their driver? Thanks, Tobias

[Bug 33372] Re: Cannot wake up from suspend and hibernate

2007-11-01 Thread Tobias McNulty
Maybe everyone else realizes this already, but I just realized that a
very usable workaround for this problem is to boot the older kernel in
gutsy, 2.6.20-16. With that kernel I can sleep and wake up with no
problem. On a side note, that kernel also works with the fglrx
proprietary driver.

[Bug 33372] Re: Cannot wake up from suspend and hibernate

2007-10-28 Thread Tobias McNulty
I have this problem with Gutsy after reverting to the vesa driver,
because of the outstanding issue with fglrx+s2ram. I don't have any
desktop effects enabled.

This is a ThinkPad T60 (ATI Radeon Mobility X1400). Thanks.

[Bug 33372] Re: Cannot wake up from suspend and hibernate

2007-10-28 Thread Tobias McNulty
I should clarify: some things turn back on, like the fan, hard disk, and
display, but the display just hangs with a flashing _ followed 10 or so
characters later by a yellow inu.

[Bug 91151] Re: gksu doesn't always pop up a dialog

2007-10-27 Thread Tobias McNulty
This happened to me because I had enabled an alternative authentication
mechanism in PAM (fingerprint reader). As soon as I disabled that, gksu
started working again. The lines in /etc/pam.d/common-auth look(ed)
like this:

auth sufficient pam_bioapi.so {snip} /etc/bioapi/pam/
password sufficient pam_bioapi.so {snip} /etc/bioapi/pam/

This works fine for GDM; as soon as I enter my username at the initial
login screen, I get a prompt to swipe my finger. gksu never shows
anything, however. It just hangs there indefinitely. strace output is
(over and over):

nanosleep({0, 100}, NULL) = 0
read(15, 0xb7fa2000, 1024) = -1 EAGAIN (Resource temporarily
unavailable)
waitpid(13318, 0xbfaca18c, WNOHANG) = 0
stat64(/proc/13318, {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0555, st_size=0, ...}) = 0
open(/proc/13318/stat, O_RDONLY) = 16
read(16, 13318 (sudo) S 13317 13318 13318..., 8191) = 189
close(16) = 0

[Bug 96260] Re: n-m-openvpn erases resolv.conf info

2007-09-12 Thread Tobias McNulty
I can confirm this bug. I tried the patch and it fixes the problem.
It's easy to build but if you don't want to bother, I've posted a
binary:

http://www.ppckernel.org/~tobias/ubuntu/feisty/

Just download it and run codesudo dpkg -i network-
manager_0.6.4-6ubuntu7_i386.deb/code

Thanks for the fix.
